2 Merely the Master's Task

Su Yue was feeling extremely emo.

Her divine sense had already confirmed that this world also had spiritual energy. And unlike those old Earth webnovels, the spiritual energy here wasn't thin at all. Its density was roughly on par with the cultivation world. For Su Yue's original body, it would've been enough to support cultivation all the way to the True Immortal realm.

Other than the world's lower overall level, and the fact that cultivators of the same realm would probably be much weaker in combat, it really wasn't that different from the cultivation world.

But now, all of that was gone.

Su Yue walked out of the public restroom and into the pitch-black park. She found a bench and sat down, then slumped back against it in utter dejection, looking completely done with life.

She'd originally been looked down on by the people of the Immortal Realm. So she'd wanted to go to Earth and become one of life's winners, throw money around, and gather a whole harem.

But looking at her current body now... she was probably the one who'd end up getting collected into someone else's harem.

She lay on the bench and stared absentmindedly at the starry sky. The air quality in this city was probably pretty good. The night sky was packed with stars. Before she knew it, Su Yue had started counting them. That had been her favorite thing to do during her 2,500 years of lonely cultivation.

Those stars over there connected to those stars over there looked like a fish. Those over there and those over there looked like a cat head... The sky hid countless interesting pictures.

Wait.

Pictures?

Su Yue sprang up from the bench. "How did I forget that? I can still use formations and talismans."

At their core, both formations and talismans were techniques that bypassed the cultivator's body and directly drew on the spiritual energy of the world.

Su Yue was eager to try. "Formations are more complicated. They need a formation core. But for simple talismans, blood and an incantation are enough."

She decided to try a talisman first. So she quickly walked to a tree and tried to pull off a leaf.

But she soon realized that her height actually wasn't enough.

The tree wasn't especially tall, and Su Yue wasn't short either, around 160 cm. She stretched her arm up with all her might, almost reaching over 180 cm.

But that branch just stayed lifted high above her, completely out of reach.

"Damn it!"

Su Yue bounced in place a few times. Her fingertips barely brushed the leaf at the end of the branch, but she couldn't grab it.

"Even a tree is bullying me?"

Su Yue's little mouth drooped. A wave of grievance instantly surged up in her heart. Her bright, watery eyes blinked a few times, and a misty layer of tears began to gather.

At this point, Su Yue still hadn't noticed that her personality seemed to have changed a little. Otherwise, even if she used to be the naive "Little White Immortal Sovereign," she wouldn't have felt wronged just because she couldn't pluck a leaf.

Just then, an arm reached over her head and plucked a leaf from the branch.

Su Yue shuddered all over. Startled out of her wits, she darted forward under the tree. She turned back trembling, only to see a man standing where she had just been. He was holding a leaf and looking at her in bafflement.

"Y-you-you... are you a demon or a ghost?" Su Yue asked with a stammer.

It was the middle of the night, and he'd suddenly appeared behind her. Her divine sense hadn't reacted at all. No matter how she thought about it, he couldn't be human.

The man was about 1.8 meters tall, a full head taller than Su Yue. He wore a black suit and had tousled Japanese-style hair. He looked young, probably in his early twenties, and kind of handsome. If he hadn't appeared in such a creepy setting, he'd definitely be the type girls on the street would sneak a few extra glances at.

"Uh... why can't I be human?" the man asked strangely.

"Showing up behind someone in the middle of the night out of nowhere—is that something a human should do? Even ghosts don't play around as hard as you do."

Su Yue was so scared her tears were almost coming out. All her life, Immortal Sovereign Su Yue had never once left her mountain gate. Naturally, she'd never had a chance to deal with ghost cultivators either. Even now, her resistance to ghosts and monsters was still at ordinary human level.

"I just saw that you couldn't reach the leaf, little miss, so I helped," the man said helplessly. Then he shook the leaf in his hand.

"Here. It's for you."

He held out his hand and offered the leaf to Su Yue.

Su Yue hesitated for a moment, but still didn't reach out to take it. "Aren't you going to ask what I'm doing here this late at night?"

"Do you want me to ask?" the man said with a smile.

"N-no, it's fine. Thank you."

Su Yue hurriedly shook her head and reached out to take the leaf from him.

She had just transmigrated into this world and knew nothing about her current identity. And this body was so young. If the man in front of her sent her to the police station, she wouldn't even know how to explain herself.

Of course, it would be even worse if this man, who had appeared out of nowhere and looked perfectly decent, was some kind of pervert inside. If he dragged her away, then with her current beautiful-girl body, she'd definitely end up in some unspeakable bad ending.

"Do you want to..." the man began.

"No, I don't! I'm just carrying out my master's orders!" Su Yue shouted in a panic.

A confused look appeared on the man's face. Then, after a second thought, he showed a half-smiling expression.

"I see. You people really know how to play. But it's this late already. Even if you're not human, you should still be careful."

"If fate allows, we'll meet again."

He smiled, then turned and left.

Su Yue's face was already as red as a fully cooked shrimp. Her eyes had turned into spiraling swirls, and it almost looked like steam was about to shoot out of her head.

What the hell did I just sayyyyy?!

Su Yue screamed inwardly. In that instant, the shock of the bad ending she'd imagined had overloaded her brain. She'd thought that if she pretended to prove she had a guardian, and that said guardian was nearby, she could send that man away.

Who could've guessed that the dirty smut she'd read years ago back on Earth would awaken uncontrollably in her subconscious the moment she arrived in this absurdly familiar setup? With her brain overloaded, it had made her blurt out something outrageous.

She'd accidentally turned herself into some weird kind of character setting...

Su Yue wanted to chase after him and explain, but the overwhelming shame and the little rationality she had left stopped her. Anyway, her goal of sending the man away had already been achieved.

And the effect had been amazing. He hadn't asked a single extra question.

Su Yue covered her face and squatted under the tree, clutching the leaf in her hand and occasionally letting out soft little whimpers. Immortal Sovereign Su Yue, who had barely seen the world, really had an absurdly high shame sensitivity.

She took several deep breaths and tried her best to calm herself down. Her flushed cheeks still revealed the unrest in the girl's heart. She stood up and stared at the leaf in her hand, thoughtful.

"Wait... did that man just say, 'even if you're not human'?"

Su Yue tilted her head and thought for a moment, recalling an important detail she'd missed earlier because of sheer embarrassment.

"Was that a joke? Or the truth?"

Su Yue pinched her cheek and recalled what she'd seen in the mirror, along with that unknown dark-red orb floating in her dantian.

Silver-white long hair. Crimson eyes. Skin that was far too pale.

Su Yue raised a hand, opened her mouth, and touched her teeth. She had two sharp canine teeth, much longer than the others.

"Could I be..."

A guess rose in Su Yue's heart.

"Vamp—"

"Vampire! Freeze!" A beam of light shone over her.
