Chapter 19: Still a Good Kid

On the surface, Ye Thirteen’s record looked... ordinary.

He was a veteran Demonhunter under the Demon Hunter Alliance with ten years of service. He had killed Rank-and-File Fiends seven times and joined three hunts against General Rank Greater Demons.

A record like that wasn’t especially impressive. Not among today’s General Rank Demon Hunters, and not even among today’s Soldier-Class Demonhunters.

But—

If someone actually dug into it, they’d find that Ye Thirteen’s record was... strange.

Because in every single fiend-hunting incident on his file, there was no clear timeline to be found.

And if someone got bold enough to push those incidents further back in time, then looked at his record again, they’d be shocked.

Starting from four years ago, the farther back you moved the kills of Soldier Rank and General Rank fiends, the more outrageous it became.

Especially in the five years right after the Sky Rift first appeared. Back then, forget killing a Soldier Rank fiend—even killing an ace-level fiend made you a big shot.

If you kill a Soldier Rank fiend now, people might just clap a little.

But if you had killed one seven years ago, it would’ve been a national sensation.

And when Lai Yingxin’s father saw that the three girls had found a High-tier Demonhunter acquaintance who could kill Soldier Rank fiends to be their instructor, and that his record looked decent at a glance, with even the Alliance giving him an “excellent” rating, he approved it very quickly.

More importantly, Lai Yingxin’s father, Qu Xuelin, and the others all felt worried and guilty about this.

Southgate Garrison was just too short on people.

So short that they couldn’t spare anyone to personally guide the three girls. All they could do was pass on as much of their best stuff as possible.

Because they had to lead by example. Not just them—even their families had practically devoted themselves to Southgate Garrison.

Only by doing that could they create a culture of, “What those above value, those below will pursue even more.” Then everyone would throw themselves into guarding the border.

But the result was that the three girls had no one to guide them. It wasn’t safe, and it would also affect their future path a little.

After all, without someone teaching them in person, their prospects would inevitably be delayed.

Ye Thirteen had no idea about all the twists and turns behind this. So when the appointment came down the next day, on Sunday, he couldn’t help feeling like he’d gotten in through the back door. He looked a little embarrassed.

Come to think of it, this should be his first time pulling strings, right?

Still, now that things had come to this, Ye Thirteen wasn’t going to hesitate.

Either don’t do it, or do it the best you can.

That was Ye Thirteen’s philosophy.

He could slack off if he wanted to. But once he decided to do something, he would never just phone it in.

And because of that, Qu Yi, Han Xiangxue, and Lai Yingxin—the three little devil girls of the school—were now sitting on the sofa like obedient children, listening to Uncle Ye’s instruction.

Holding three paper folders, Ye Thirteen said,

“Starting today, you’ll use your resources according to these ratios.

You can use less, but not more. If you use too much, it’ll damage your foundation. Remember that.”

Starting with Qu Yi, Ye Thirteen solemnly handed the three paper folders to the girls.

Sure, he could’ve just sent them by email or something. But Ye Thirteen was used to doing it this way.

Maybe it just felt more ceremonial.

Affected by Ye Thirteen’s serious, earnest expression, even Han Xiangxue, who usually found him annoying, didn’t argue this time. She lowered her head and started flipping through the paper file in her hands.

[Daily Tier-3 monster cultivation resources: 125 grams of leg meat from a Tier-2 ice-element magical beast, the Icehide Rabbit; 250 grams of Tier-3 general-purpose lean meat for wood and light elements; 75 grams of Tier-3 monster essence blood.]

[Daily Tier-3 potion cultivation resources: Icefish Type-17 and General Amplification Type-21, three bottles each, to be taken once in the morning, noon, and evening.

Optimal usage times: 6:00–8:00 AM; 11:00 AM–1:00 PM; 9:30–11:30 PM.]

[Daily Tier-4 monster cultivation resources: ...]

It was written in detail all the way from Tier-3 to Tier-5.

And that wasn’t all. There were also daily training requirements listed afterward.

For example, since she was a Talisman Master, she had to draw a certain number of talismans every day.

She didn’t necessarily have to use specialized drawing tools for it. After all, magical beast essence blood and talisman paper were both too expensive.

Han Xiangxue glanced at Qu Yi and Lai Yingxin on either side of her and found that theirs were just as detailed. They seemed to have been planned out according to each person’s class.

The various charts, and the professional precision down to the gram, hit her head-on with a sense of real expertise. Even Han Xiangxue, who had wanted to nitpick, shut up.

Qu Yi, however, didn’t have that concern as a social coward. She directly asked with eyes full of admiration,

“Did you make all this yourself, Uncle?”

Ye Thirteen pulled out a cigarette. But after seeing three pairs of bright, watery eyes staring at him, he only held it between his lips and didn’t light it.

With a trace of gloom in his tone, Ye Thirteen explained,

“No. A good friend of mine came up with this theory. I just copied it over.

But she’s an authority in this field, so it won’t be wrong.”

Looking at the report that belonged to her, Lai Yingxin nodded and said,

“It really does look pretty professional...”

Han Xiangxue wanted to say something unpleasant, but she wasn’t the kind of person who made trouble for no reason.

Without solid proof, she wouldn’t refute Ye Thirteen, her instructor.

At the end of the day, she was still a good kid.

The magical beast meat and essence blood were for cooking, and Qu Yi and the other two were all treasured daughters from prominent families. He probably didn’t need to instruct them on that.

As for the potions, Ye Thirteen had already marked them for morning, noon, and evening use, and had even noted the best times for each.

Ye Thirteen glanced at the clock hanging on the wall inside the base, then instructed,

“It’s a little past seven now. Go absorb this morning’s potion dose first.

I’ll keep watch here. It’s fine.”

Since Ye Thirteen had said so, Lai Yingxin and the other two stood up one after another and walked into their bedrooms inside the base.

Anyway, Tier-3 potions were absorbed pretty quickly. If something really happened, they should still make it in time.

And even if they couldn’t, Ye Thirteen was here, wasn’t he?

Once a Demonhunter reached Entry-Rank, they could operate as a one-man army. That wasn’t just empty talk.

Even the most ordinary Soldier-Class Demonhunter was stronger than all three of them combined.

That alone showed how important it was to have an instructor on the team.

At the very least, the students’ daily cultivation and training could be guaranteed, and their growth wouldn’t be delayed.

In less than fifteen minutes, Qu Yi and the other two came out of their rooms one after another.

After Lai Yingxin came out, she smiled and said,

“It really does feel a little different~”

As Uncle Ye’s number one fan, Qu Yi naturally followed up with a grin,

“Hehe, I think my absorption efficiency and speed both got a lot better too!”

Han Xiangxue said nothing and only turned her head away.

But since she didn’t say it was bad, that basically meant it was good.
