“Manager Sakai, brought another newbie today?”

Roland stepped into the salon, spotted Sakai Michiko, and greeted her with a smile. She wasn’t surprised—he practically visited every morning before work for hair care. Of the last five times she’d brought rookies, they’d bumped into Roland three times.

“Yep, the one up ahead.” Sakai pointed toward Genya Ayumu. Seeing he’d just finished, she gestured for him to come over.

Genya had been wondering how to approach when her signal arrived—and he was genuinely glad for the chance to meet someone so impressive.

“Hello, I’m Roland. Pleased to meet you.”

Roland stepped forward the moment Genya approached, offering a handshake. His poise and refined speech carried an aristocratic grace that felt like a gentle spring breeze.

“Hello. I’m Genya Ayumu.”

Genya kept it brief, stating only his name before shaking Roland’s hand. Roland’s fingers were slender, smooth to the touch. Genya meant to release it quickly—but as he pulled away, Roland’s pinky lightly traced his palm, sending a faint tickle through him.

The gesture was discreet, hidden by their clasped hands. No one noticed. Genya studied Roland’s face for clues, but his expression remained perfectly composed. *Did I imagine it?*

“A fine young man indeed, Manager Sakai. Your eye for talent deserves praise.”

Sakai knew Roland never gave empty compliments. Previous rookies? He’d barely acknowledged them. Roland believed only two kinds of hosts existed: himself, and everyone else. Genya earning his approval was rare—and proof she hadn’t misjudged him. Maybe LOVE Host Club could rise again.

“And let me tell you,” Sakai added, pride swelling, “this kid isn’t just handsome—his whole presence is captivating.”

Flattered, she couldn’t resist boasting. Eager to highlight Genya’s hidden merits, she sang his praises.

Roland’s eyes widened—a rare reaction. Without warning, his hand landed on Genya’s abdomen.

Genya stiffened. Roland’s earlier gesture had put him on edge. Now, fingers stroking slowly over his clothes… it felt oddly intimate.

“Little brother,” Roland whispered into his ear, warm breath brushing his skin, “how about joining my club?”

A shiver shot down Genya’s spine. He instinctively stepped back. Roland’s gaze was fiercely intent—and for a heartbeat, Genya felt genuinely intimidated. *He really wants me.*

“Roland,” Sakai cut in, stepping firmly between them, “I may not be your boss anymore, but poaching right in front of me? Too far.”

Only then did she realize her own boasting nearly cost her this gem. Even after managing him three years, she’d rarely seen Roland show such interest in another man—he dismissed all others.

Roland stayed silent, eyes locked on Genya. Sakai simply paid the bill and led Genya out. Genya followed quietly, unnerved by that lingering stare. *Was he waiting for an answer?*

Outside, the air felt lighter. Breathing came easier.

Honestly? After dealing with Roland, Genya suspected the man seemed a bit… *flamboyant*. When Roland invited him, Genya’s mind jumped straight to worst-case scenarios—his whole body tensing up. *If I went there… I’d be devoured.*

But Roland was a host! A wildly popular one—surely he’d been with countless women? *Must be overthinking. Maybe he’s just… overly eager to recruit.*

“What’s on your mind, Genya-kun?” Sakai noticed his distant look.

“Ah… I was wondering if Roland might be a bit… effeminate?”

Genya had almost asked something else. Afraid his suspicions were paranoia, he rephrased.

Sakai didn’t seem surprised. After a thoughtful pause, she asked earnestly, “Do you know why Roland is so beloved by women?”

“I don’t know.”

Genya had guesses—looks, charm—but her tone hinted it ran deeper. Better play dumb.

“Hosts are sometimes jokingly called ‘male Guan Yu.’ Their real job? Chat with clients, ease their stress, leave them feeling light, happy, even cherished. When clients feel that way, they’ll happily order champagne—boosting your sales. Looks and physique? Just the entry ticket. True mastery lies in conversation.”

Genya listened closely. *So Roland’s secret is… talking skills?*

“To truly understand his clients’ hearts,” Sakai continued, “Roland learned to think like a woman—even mentally affirming himself as female at times. That’s why guests open up to him so easily. Trust blooms. Everyone fights to pop champagne for him. That’s how legends are made.”

Genya went cold.

*So it wasn’t my imagination.*

He silently vowed: *From now on… I’m giving Roland a very wide berth.*
