On the way to the classroom, Night Zero held her teaching materials and gazed at Empty City with a look of deep resentment.
"Hey, hey... this isn't my fault! I don't even know who this Mira-chan is, let alone Celestial Wolf. How was I supposed to know all this data was cooked up by those two?"
Empty City replied with a helpless expression.
Night Zero felt a trace of displeasure at being kept in the dark. After all, she'd believed only Mira was pulling the strings behind the scenes. She'd even spent yesterday devising ways to deceive the dean, only to find out it was all insiders. No wonder she was furious.
Still, this actually made things easier for Empty City. An S Rank retired hero was on his side, so he didn't worry about his identity being exposed. School matters could be covered up through him. Yet after this exchange, Empty City grew even more intrigued by that so-called Mira-chan.
"Remember, you're heading to Class 2-C next. Their previous homeroom teacher resigned to care for his wife, leaving the position open. Otherwise, do you think you'd get to be a full-time teacher?"
"Of course! My skills are top-notch," Empty City said without hesitation.
"Don't say that yet—you'll see how exhausting teaching students can be. After morning classes, wait for me in the office. We'll grab lunch and I'll give you a tour of the school."
Finally, Night Zero seemed to notice something and suddenly leaned close to Empty City. She was incredibly alluring in every way... Her face so near made him wonder for a moment if she'd force a kiss on him. But just as that thought arose, she averted her gaze and let it drift downward along his face.
"Honestly... it's only been a moment, and your tie is already so messy."
Despite her complaints, Night Zero's hands diligently straightened his tie.
Ugh... super embarrassing... Luckily, no other students were around, or this would've sparked a scandal!
After that, Night Zero headed to teach her own class. Empty City could only watch her leave with a sigh before setting off for his post.
Class 2-C, huh? According to the dean and Night Zero, this school didn't sort classes by ability—it'd be too unequal and cause psychological gaps. Only absolute elites were in Class S; Classes A to D were regular, with students of varying levels. So Empty City's Class C wasn't as weak as its name suggested. There might even be incredibly strong students inside.
Following Night Zero's directions, Empty City quickly reached the classroom door. Glancing at the hallway clock, he realized he was about ten minutes late but remained unhurried.
He needed to make a good impression on day one. Let them self-study? Neither Night Zero nor the dean had told him what to teach... For second-years, was it Meta Ability theory? Developing their powers? Or a strength test? Just thinking about it gave him a headache. Meta Abilities had only emerged six years ago during the Apostle Invasion. As the world's first awakened Superhuman, he knew many abilities remained undiscovered. Most students were ordinary people dreaming of becoming heroes, hoping to contribute to the district someday. But Empty City had no clue! What to teach! What students should learn! These were his fatal blind spots!
Hey, hey... standing outside like this is embarrassing!
To avoid trouble, Empty City pulled out his phone without hesitation. It was the latest model, perfect in every way—prepared by Mira-chan. Trackers probably hid inside, but he didn't care. His priority was finding Night Zero to ask what to teach! This was pure last-minute cramming.
Pick up... he listened to the ringing tone, heart pounding with anxiety.
But...
With a thud, he thought the call connected.
"Night Zero—"
Before he could finish, a busy tone sounded.
Judging by this, it was hung up? Empty City recalled his high school days—teachers always hung up on ringing phones during class. Realizing Night Zero had done the same, he lowered his head helplessly at the door.
Meta Abilities had only been discovered six years ago. Most teachers here were retired or idle heroes. Students were likely just beginners. With that thought, Empty City resolved to face them properly! He couldn't let Night Zero down. After all, he'd acted like a domineering CEO that morning. Just remembering it made his face flush red.
Ahh... what am I even thinking! At this rate, class will end soon!
Students hate teachers who run over time!
Holding that final thought, Empty City smoothed his hair, straightened his tie, and with firm resolve, took his first step toward the classroom.
However...
"I say... could you not block the way?"
It was a voice as sweet as silver bells, almost heavenly.
Empty City awkwardly stepped aside, though he didn't know why.
Anyway, the girl who'd suddenly appeared—or had been watching him from behind for who knows how long—simply held her books, opened the classroom door, and walked in calmly.
At that moment, Empty City had a few choice words he wanted to say!
Aren't you my student? You're late! Why the hell are you acting like you own the place?!
He roared inwardly. After gathering his thoughts, he formally stepped into the classroom.
