Chapter 4: The New Dorm (Part 3)

"...The facilities here are way too good." A surreal feeling crept into my heart. Every detail of this room’s decor was flawless, like polished artwork—almost suspiciously perfect. After the initial shock, a trace of doubt rose within me.

I thought for a while but couldn’t figure out why, so I simply accepted this lovely reality.

Well, since the school assigned me to this dorm, there was no helping it. I walked calmly to the bed and let my body sink into it. The springs gave just enough, bouncing back softly. I lay there like a rag doll, utterly unwilling to move.

Ugh, someone save me—I’m stuck… but wow, this is so comfy~~

I lazily rolled around, savoring the mattress’s softness, when I suddenly recalled I’d forgotten something.

What was it? Hmm…

Oh no—why did I even come here?

I wracked my brain’s last one percent of free space and finally concluded:

I’m here to meet my roommate!

I shot upright with a whoosh. The room was empty; neither my suitcase nor the senior’s was in sight. They must’ve been stored somewhere.

By now, my suitcase couldn’t still be in storage—it arrived this morning and should’ve been delivered to the dorm. But where?

I scanned the room doubtfully, ruling out the hallway. It had to be inside here.

I got up, walked to the wardrobe, and opened the rightmost door. Sure enough, my suitcase sat quietly inside. I pulled it out, unzipped it beside the bed, and lifted out my kitty, whom I hadn’t seen all day.

"Meow meow~~ I’m so sorry you suffered!" I cradled her, nuzzling my face into her belly. In this jarringly unfamiliar room, only her familiar fur offered a hint of comfort.

"Kitty, what do I do now?" Holding her, my restless heart slowly calmed. "I’m in this strange place, about to meet total strangers as classmates and roommates. And worst of all…"

"...that Student Council president."

Helplessly, I lifted my kitty up and down, up and down, repeating the motion to ease my worries.

"I’ve got no clue… With my current strength, approaching her is suicide. Dad’s not here, and I can’t reach anyone." My brows knotted in frustration, a sharp contrast to my kitty’s adorable face.

"Whatever. I’ll tidy this dorm first to welcome the senior I’ll live with all year. The rest can wait." I set the kitty on the bed, dug into my suitcase, and pulled out a small green cleaning cloth. "Where to start?"

"Wipe the wardrobe first." I dashed to the kitchen, wet the cloth, and scrubbed every wooden panel of my wardrobe. After rinsing it, I approached the other wardrobe and carefully opened the door.

Just as expected, the senior’s purple suitcase sat at the bottom. I wiped the upper and outer panels clean, then paused and closed the door.

Better not touch the suitcase below—it belonged to a senior I hadn’t even met. What if she ended up hating me?

*When she arrives and sees this spotless room, she’ll be thrilled.* The thought made me smile. *A whole year as roommates—I’d better cherish this.*

Fueled by that idea, I threw myself into cleaning. My efficiency soared way beyond my usual home efforts.

Time flew. As I finished wiping the last balcony chair, the sun dipped toward the horizon. Sounds of other students echoed in the hallway—it was getting late.

I’d just stretched out on the bed, craving rest, when soft knocks sounded at the door.

"Who is it?" I scrambled up and rushed over.

"Wu, it’s me—Xialin!" Her voice drifted through. "It’s late. Hungry? Let’s grab dinner."

Ah, Xialin! I’d thought it was my soon-to-arrive senior roommate. Still, seeing Xialin again made me happy.

"Wait a sec!" I opened the door to find her gazing at me with a trace of envy in her eyes.
