Sunlight streamed through the window, playfully dancing on the clean red wooden floor.
This room was lavishly decorated. Oil paintings by famous artists adorned both walls, alongside various ornaments. Every piece of furniture had been meticulously chosen, each costing over a hundred gold coins. At the center stood a soft double bed.
On it lay a delicate girl. Her golden hair cascaded across the sheets like a waterfall. Her petite face wore a serene sleeping expression, occasionally breaking into a cute smile as if dreaming of something wonderful.
By the window stood a handsome young man, already dressed. He gently touched her cheek. Sensing the touch, she slowly opened her eyes and saw him sitting beside the bed. A charming smile spread across her face. "Darling, good morning."
He stroked her soft cheek, then pinched it lightly. "Good morning, Stella."
Stella gazed at him with hazy eyes. Suddenly noticing his fully dressed form, her expression turned reluctant. "Darling, are you leaving?"
"Yeah," he teased. "My time in this world is up. Staying longer would cost exchange points."
Stella pouted slightly. "I know you don’t care about those points. You’re leaving because you worry about your sister, right?"
He stayed silent, only running his fingers through her silky golden hair. Sunlight made it glow faintly.
Finally, he gave her a gentle kiss and moved to leave. Stella suddenly grabbed his hand, sitting up. The blanket slid off her tender skin, revealing bare shoulders—but she ignored it. She looked at him with kitten-like pleading eyes. "Darling, can’t you take me with you? I’d give up everything here to follow you."
He sighed. "It’s not that I won’t. Overdeity’s rules forbid it. If you crossed over, everyone would hunt you down. Please wait a little longer, Stella. I promise the rules will change soon."
Stella reluctantly released his hand, her face still clouded with unhappiness. "Then... when will you visit me next, Darling?"
"Next month," he said. "When tasks refresh. Crossing too often draws Overdeity’s ire. I’m not afraid of him, but I can’t risk messing up future plans."
"Okay..." Stella wasn’t unreasonable, but her eyes held a trace of resentment. "Just remember to come back, Darling."
He couldn’t withstand her pitiful gaze. Rubbing his hair awkwardly, he murmured, "Overdeity, send me back."
A cold voice echoed in Feng Ye’s ear. "Subject 10086, Feng Ye. All main quests completed. Return request approved. Select destination: private space or reality?"
Feng Ye, used to its sudden appearances, replied calmly. "I choose reality."
"Request confirmed. Body transfer in progress..."
Before Stella’s eyes, Feng Ye’s form faded into nothingness. She clutched the blanket tightly, curling up on the bed. "Another month..." she mumbled.
Feng Ye reappeared in a dim alley after a dizzying spin. He shook off the disorientation, stepping outside. "Overdeity really can’t drop me at home?" he grumbled. "Always this shady alley. Everyone knows he exists—why stay so mysterious?"
His wristwatch showed 7 PM in reality. He’d spent five or six days in the other world, yet only an hour had passed here.
"Luckily it was a random summon," he thought gratefully. "A normal summon would’ve made me vanish for days. My sister would’ve turned the house upside down." Even an hour was too long—Coco would be throwing a fit. He hurried home. He’d only gone to buy groceries when the random summon pulled him into Overdeity’s space.
He accepted it monthly for Stella’s sake.
"Hey, did you hear? Gale Blade just cleared a tough quest. He’s now an A-rank Awakened and ranked in Haven City’s top thousand!"
"Yeah! That makes twenty Awakened from District 13 in the top thousand—more than any other district."
"Wish Overdeity picked me too. With my smarts, I’d make the top thousand."
"Get real. Stick to dreaming."
"... "
On his way back, Feng Ye overheard chatter about Awakened and Overdeity. The speakers wore excited, envious expressions—ordinary people longing for the power only the chosen possessed.
Feng Ye, fresh from a task world, was one of them.
Overdeity emerged a decade ago during the first Beast invasion. Strange creatures from another dimension possessed humans, wreaking havoc. Bullets and missiles barely scratched them. Only when Overdeity awakened humans with War Spirit power could humanity fight back.
The cost? Being summoned to bizarre worlds to complete Overdeity’s tasks. Rewards included exchange points for strength and powerful items.
Haven City alone had over a hundred thousand Awakened—but among ten million residents, they remained rare. Awakened held higher status than ordinary folk.
Ten minutes later, Feng Ye reached home.
As an Awakened, he never worried about money. Rare items from task worlds made Haven City’s Awakened scramble for scraps.
With only his sister, he’d bought a spacious apartment in a high-end complex—not a villa. The place felt too empty for two.
After swiping his card and passing security checks, he took the elevator to the seventeenth floor.
He pulled shopping bags from his storage wristwatch. Once sure Stella’s scent was gone, he swiped his keycard at the door.
Cold air blasted him. The AC was set low. He slipped on slippers and entered the living room. A small figure huddled under a blanket on the sofa.
With her raven-black hair, he almost mistook her for Stella.
It was his sister—Ye Yuko, Coco.
She turned at the door’s sound, wrapped like a dumpling in the blanket, only her head peeking out. Her delicate face scowled at him.
"Silly Servant!" Coco snapped. "You were just buying groceries. An hour? Are you trying to starve me?!"
