Chapter 8 Even a Bottom-Feeder Dreams of

Although the genius Chief Student came from another world, her ability to learn wasn't bad at all. In just one morning, she had roughly understood the country called Japan.

She'd also gained a slight understanding of this world's technology.

It was completely different from the Miralstin Empire. The devices here were incredibly advanced. Most people believed in a religion called "science." There was no magic here, yet the country was peaceful.

Most importantly, this country possessed a weapon called "games." Its destructive power was even greater than the Dragon King's breath. No wonder the original owner of this body, Manatsu Mio, had been hopelessly addicted to gaming.

Like right now.

Lunorette, wearing Moyu Manatsu's body, was holding a phone and playing a mobile game. One look at how absorbed she was, and anyone could tell how addictive games were.

Luckily, it was break time right now. Otherwise, for a good student like Lunorette, that would've been blasphemy against the classroom.

Even so, the girl still found herself thinking how nice it'd be if she could play mobile games during class too. Even though she'd only spent half a day in this world, she'd already grasped the phone's basic functions, especially games. It couldn't be helped. The original owner of this body had downloaded a ton of them.

Just as she was about to push further into the enemy's territory, a hand suddenly descended from above and snatched away her phone.

"Ah! What are you doing? Give it back already!"

The moment Lunorette saw the phone disappear, she tensed up at once. She reached out to snatch it back, but Yuki had no intention of returning it.

With just a few taps, Yuki uninstalled every game on the phone. By the time Lunorette got it back, the screen was already empty of games.

The girl froze completely. She dropped to her knees, suffering the pain of losing something precious.

"You'll just download them again soon anyway, right?"

Yuki's dead-fish eyes stared at the girl kneeling on the floor.

"Why did you have to be so ruthless? I only just started enjoying the beauty of this world."

The hat-wearing girl looked at Yuki with tears she couldn't quite shed.

"I'm doing this for your own good. You spend at least sixteen hours a day on games. Keep this up and you'll turn into a total wreck. And aren't you worried about what's happening around you?"

What Yuki meant was, of course, the matter of Moyu turning into a girl. But Lunorette didn't know that. At that moment, she put on a thoughtful expression and pretended to think.

"Forget it. Class."

For Yuki, as long as this little girl didn't play on her phone during class, that was enough.

Actually, Lunorette wasn't especially obsessed with phones. She just found them novel. In this world without magic or swords, she had no idea what else to do.

She had secretly tried using magic with Moyu's body before, but she couldn't bring out her original strength. Maybe Moyu's body was just too weak.

Still, the classes in this other world felt pretty fresh to Lunorette. Even though she couldn't understand them, she listened seriously anyway, like the good child she was.

When school ended in the afternoon, Lunorette wanted to look around this world and get to know this other world properly. By chance, she overheard a few girls nearby talking.

"Let's go do rock dance. Invite a few people."

"Sure. Let's invite more. Better if we get some boys too."

"Let me see who can come. Oh right, let's ask the class rep too."

The moment the girl heard they were going to some kind of rock dance, she became interested. She had no idea what it was, but she showed more than enough curiosity toward anything new on Earth.

"Um, are you going dancing?"

Lunorette took the initiative to speak to them, which startled the girls.

"Yes, Manatsu-kun, are you...?"

Suddenly being approached by the guy everyone had called the weird boy since first year, of course the girls hesitated a little.

"Can I come too?"

"Huh?"

"I want to go too!"

Seeing the fervor in her eyes, the girls couldn't react for a moment. It wasn't until she repeated it like a firm statement that they realized she really wanted to come along.

"Sure."

Though they were a little reluctant, they thought about it and decided he wasn't especially annoying. He was just the weird boy who slept in class, played games, and never joined group activities back in first year. So they agreed.

"Hey, what are you doing?"

The moment Yuki saw Lunorette actively asking to go dancing, she immediately lost her calm. In her memory, Moyu Manatsu didn't like group activities at all. For this little girl to voluntarily go out and play with classmates was practically unbelievable.

"Yuki, are you coming too?"

"What are you talking about... Are you not normal today?"

Yuki kept feeling that something was off. Moyu was never like this...

By the time they got to the dance hall, Yuki saw it.

Lunorette, wearing Moyu Manatsu's body, was dancing to rock music with incredible energy. Her moves looked exactly like some American rock youth.

Her expression was as spectacular as the expressions of the classmates who had come along with her.

"Anyway, thanks for the flowers."

After seeing the underclassman Josephine off, Moyu Manatsu let out a sigh of relief. She hadn't expected this junior to be such a chatterbox. Once she got going, she could talk for twenty straight minutes.

She supposed she'd made a junior acquaintance. During lunch break, the girl wandered around the academy and learned a bit about its history from the students' conversations.

Rockefeller Academy was the largest magic academy in the Miralstin Empire. Its outstanding graduates from every generation had all gone on to achieve great things in the Empire. For example, the commander of the Holy Knights had graduated from this academy.

The academy had a long history, around six or seven hundred years. It didn't only recruit students from its own country. Every year, quite a few outsiders came as well. Still, most of the students were locals. And there were also plenty of noble students in the academy.

In this world, there was still a divide between commoners and nobles. And nobles' privileges always harmed commoners excessively. The only way out for commoners was to join the army and earn military merit, or enter a magic academy to study.

But Rockefeller Academy wasn't a place just anyone could enter. It was the Empire's greatest magic academy, so naturally it was the hardest to get into.

It was said that Lunorette, who had ranked first when entering the academy, was a once-in-a-century genius rarely seen in the Empire. That was why she had become someone everyone in the academy admired.

The reverence in her heart toward the girl called Lunorette was real. But Moyu didn't know this person at all. She had only taken over her body, while knowing absolutely nothing about her.

Walking through the academy, the girl's slightly lonely figure felt out of place with everything around her. She had been like this back at her old school too. She hadn't had many close friends. After coming to another world, she was only wearing someone else's body and receiving someone else's admiration.

It wasn't that the girl disliked making friends. And it definitely wasn't because she liked being alone that she didn't make any. She simply didn't know how to make friends. That's right. She just genuinely didn't know how to interact with people.

Even with Yuki as her only friend, Moyu's situation still wouldn't change.

"Luno-chan."

The girl, lost in her thoughts, was suddenly pulled back to reality by a familiar voice.

"Caina."

Moyu smiled slightly, and the other girl walked up with a smile on her face.

"Are you looking for Sifrena? It's over by the fountain right now."

Caina had apparently mistaken Moyu for looking for Lunorette's dragon, Sifrena.

Following Caina's steps, Moyu found the dragon by the academy fountain. It seemed to be playing by the pool, occasionally dipping its sharp claws into the water. Even though it looked terrifying, the students were surprisingly calm. Probably because this was a magic academy.

"Sifrena, your master is looking for you~"

At Caina's call, the dragon named Sifrena stopped playing in the water, flapped its wings, and flew over.

"Such a good girl~"

Caina smiled slightly and reached out her little hand to stroke the dragon's body. Though Sifrena looked fierce, it didn't resist.

Right. One of the most important reasons Lunorette was praised by the Empire as a genius of the last hundred years was that she was a Dragon Knight.

Dragons were an extremely rare race in this world. Because humans had often hunted dragons a few hundred years ago, dragons were now rarely seen.

And dragons were extremely proud creatures. Normally, they would never submit to humans, much less form contracts with them and become their partners.

It was already good enough if a dragon didn't kill a human on sight. How could it casually befriend one?

Looking across the entire Empire, there were only a few people who held the title of Dragon Knight. And Lunorette was one of them. No one knew what method she had used, but she had somehow tamed a dragon that humans viewed as a monster and become the Empire's youngest Dragon Knight.

Because of that, she became a legend in the academy and was hailed by the Empire as a genius.

The more Manatsu Moyu thought about it, the more unbelievable it felt that someone as incredible as Lunorette had actually switched bodies with her.

Looking at the dragon in front of her, the girl felt an indescribable envy in her heart. Once upon a time, she too had dreamed of taming a dragon and becoming a Dragon Knight.

"Sifrena, come here~"

She thought that since she was wearing Lunorette's body, maybe she could fulfill her dream of riding a dragon through the sky.

Sifrena was obedient enough. It slowly approached the girl. The girl leaped up and climbed onto Sifrena's back, trying to ride the dragon.

Suddenly, Sifrena's eyes turned fierce. A sense of unfamiliarity spread through it, and it let out a roar toward the sky.

"ROAR!!"

Sifrena suddenly went berserk. Moyu hadn't even sat properly before the dragon threw her off. She felt like her butt had been smashed apart.

"Oww..."

"Are you okay, Luno-chan?"

Caina hurried forward and helped her up.

When Moyu stood up, she saw Sifrena glaring at her viciously. Then a sphere packed with enormous energy suddenly formed in its mouth.

"N-no way!!"

Boom!

The energy sphere Sifrena fired was terrifyingly destructive. It nearly blew apart the academy fountain, and the attack had been aimed straight at Moyu.

Sifrena spat out a stream of blazing fire and charged at Manatsu Moyu, while she dodged the attacks in a miserable panic.

"Director, this script is wrong!"

Why was the dragon attacking its own master?!

Watching Sifrena attack the girl, Caina looked as if she had witnessed something unbelievable. Her face was filled with shock.

"What's going on here...?"

Dragons might not be close to humans, but there was no reason they should attack their own master.

If Sifrena was attacking its master, then something had to be wrong.

As she watched the girl struggle in a sorry state, suspicion toward her rose in Caina's heart for the first time.
