Chapter 29 The Girl on the Offensive

“What… is going on…?”

The black‑haired girl stared into the mirror for a long time, trying to spot anything different. Unfortunately, no matter how she looked, the girl in the mirror still looked nothing like her real face.

She glanced around the room a few more times. Same old mess—trash and cookie boxes scattered everywhere.

She took out a student ID. On it was a photo of a black‑haired boy, and the name “Manatsu Mio” printed in bold characters.

Sitting down on the floor, she thought for a long while before finally accepting her fate.

“Why haven’t I turned back yet…?”

Lunorette was thoroughly depressed.

She’d thought that when she woke up this morning, she’d go back to her original world like usual. But the heavens decided to joke with her—she was still stuck in the world where Moyu Manatsu lived.

“I wonder if Her Highness the Princess got rescued or not.”

To be honest, Lunorette really didn’t feel at ease leaving things to Moyu. She knew exactly what level that girl was at. Letting her go rescue a princess in her place was beyond unreliable.

But yesterday she really had no choice. It was time for them to swap bodies, so whether she liked it or not, she had to dump her own problem on Moyu. Because of that, she waited the entire day in this world yesterday, just so she could go back to her own world today.

Reality was cruel. She didn’t go back.

“I hope Caina and the others are okay…”

Even though she was worried about her friends, there was nothing she could do right now. In the end, she still had to go to school in Moyu’s place.

She took off her only sleepwear—a big T‑shirt—picked up the chest‑binding cloth from the bed, and wrapped it around and around her not‑so‑big chest. Slowly her curves flattened out, until it was completely flat.

“I’ve been meaning to ask this… has little Moyu seriously never worn a bra?”

She patted her chest and couldn’t help wincing a little. During all the days she’d been body‑swapping with Moyu, she’d never once found a bra in the closet.

Come to think of it, she still didn’t know why Moyu was cross‑dressing as a boy. Was it some unspeakable secret, or just a twisted hobby?

She put on the boys’ uniform, pulled the cap down, then patted her chest once she was fully dressed. Facing the mirror, she showed a satisfied look.

Maybe she was a bit handsome like this.

Lunorette thought to herself, a little narcissistically.

No, wait. This body wasn’t hers. What was she getting smug about?

The moment that thought hit, her mood crashed again.

She’d just finished dressing and was about to head out when her phone started ringing. She took it out; the name “Yuki Shiki” was on the screen.

“Hello, Yuki?”

“Hey, you awake yet, little brat?”

“Yeah, I’m just about to leave. What’s up?”

“I thought you’d still be dead asleep. You not snoozing like a pig today is honestly surprising.”

“So in your eyes, I’m the type who’s still snoring in the morning and needs someone to call and drag me out of bed…?”

“Got a problem with that? That’s literally who you were. Staying up gaming every night until who knows when, then totally unable to get up, and I had to go to your place to haul you out of bed. You dare say I’m wrong?”

Lunorette shut her mouth.

Moyu Manatsu, just how lazy are you…

“It’s exam day today. You actually studied? If you fail, you’re gonna have to take a make‑up test.”

“Uh…”

“Forget it, I get it. You’re on your own.”

With that, Yuki hung up.

Exams, huh… She was completely hopeless there…

The girl could already see her tragic future.

Wearing a miserable expression, Lunorette headed out. She’d lived in this world for a bit now, so she knew how to get to school, and she’d even learned how to take the subway.

Even so, her mind was still on her own world.

The day before yesterday, she’d received the news that the princess had gone missing and joined the search operation. But before she could do anything, she’d been dragged into this world, and the whole mess got neatly dumped onto Moyu Manatsu.

Lunorette was genuinely worried whether that girl could even make it through tomorrow in one piece. As far as she was concerned, expecting Moyu to actually solve anything for her was out of the question.

If Moyu could just survive those two days, that would already be a miracle—at least, that’s what Lunorette thought.

She put her earbuds in, swayed her body slightly to the music, and walked toward the train station.

Suddenly, a chill shot up from her feet to the top of her head. A girl who’d spent years fighting people could instantly feel the killing intent. She pulled out her earbuds, her gaze turning sharp.

“Who’s there.”

Her tone went ice‑cold, carrying a suffocating pressure.

“Well, now, that’s really surprising. I never heard your awareness was this good, Miss Manatsu.”

A blonde woman stepped out from around the corner, smiling. The pressure she gave off was like being locked onto by a hunter.

“Who are you?”

Lunorette was sure she’d never seen her before.

“Forgot me already? You remember my face, don’t you? That day, you just got lucky—someone from the Shiki family covered for you. But today won’t be that easy. Today, I came alone. And there’s no Yuki Shiki by your side. If you’re thinking about getting out of this untouched, save it. Come with me, Manatsu Mio.”

Sorafarin let out a soft laugh.

Who is this woman? What’s her relationship with Moyu? Why is she after Moyu? These questions kept spinning in Lunorette’s head.

“What do you want?”

Not knowing her background, Lunorette eased herself backward, putting more distance between them.

Seeing how wary she was, Sorafarin grew smug. She wasn’t worried at all about her prey slipping out of her grasp.

“Shouldn’t you be asking yourself that? You don’t even know how valuable your own body is. I did my homework—on the night of the Firefly Incident, you were listed as a related party. I’m certain you’re a later‑awakened Psionic.”

Sorafarin’s burning gaze made Lunorette’s skin crawl, and she pulled back another step.

“Maybe you’re wondering how I can be so sure you’re a Psionic. I’ll tell you this—you should know your own body better than anyone. Look at yourself now. Compared to before, isn’t it way too different? Or rather… your body’s already mutated.”

Lunorette’s heart clenched. Could she know about the body swap between her and Moyu?

“Manatsu Mio, you’re just a brat who stumbled into powers by accident. Instead of living among the unremarkable masses, why not become my test subject?”

Mana surged around Sorafarin, startling the girl.

So this world has magic too?

Boom!

Before she could react, an explosion shook the air, blasting the girl backward.

“Don’t die on me. You’re my precious test material.”

Still smiling, Sorafarin let energy flow over her body. A swarm of glowing orbs took flight, circling her to form a ring. Then they shot toward the girl.

Lunorette tried to counter. She stirred the Mana in this body, conjuring a fireball—but it fizzled out in an instant.

With another boom, she was sent flying. Her cap was knocked off; she was left covered in dust and dirt. If before she’d looked like a androgynous boy, now—even in a boys’ uniform—she gave off a distinctly more feminine vibe.

“This weakling body…”

This wasn’t the first time Lunorette had complained about this body. But Moyu Manatsu’s physical condition really couldn’t compare to her own. No matter how bad her original body was, it was never this… drained.

“It’s over.”

Sorafarin smiled as her Mana domain expanded. A yellow spherical mass appeared, splitting apart like dividing cells. It floated right in front of the girl, ready to tear into her at any moment.

Lunorette got to her feet and slowly gathered Mana through this frail body. Her body might be weak, but the magic knowledge in her head wasn’t going anywhere. Using magic shouldn’t be a problem.

“Galactic Flame.”

Silver light flared. Several fireballs dropped from the sky, slamming straight toward Sorafarin head‑on.

“What?”

The sudden turn of events caught Sorafarin completely off guard. The blasts exploded around her.

“God of Thunder, punish with the power of nature—drop the hammer of justice!”

As the chant ended, thunderclouds swelled overhead. Gold lightning ripped the sky open, roaring as it swallowed the woman whole.

“No one said you could use abilities!”

This unexpected factor from outside all her intel threw Sorafarin off for a moment.

Sorafarin poured out Mana, unleashing a surge of power. A massive blade of light split the sky and came crashing down toward the girl.

Lunorette raised a hand, letting intense light erupt from her palm, then punched. Her blow shattered the incoming attack. She rushed in and swung at Sorafarin’s face. Sorafarin caught her fist, and a razor‑sharp wave of energy ripped up from the ground toward her.

Lunorette jumped back. Sparks of galactic flame burst forward, wiping out the attack.

The girl formed a hand sign, ready to draw out the Mana inside this body.

“Sun God: Apollo.”

Blinding radiance exploded outward. The intense light forced Sorafarin to retreat. Huge amounts of Mana converged, forming a massive magic circle around the girl.

“Where did all that power come from?!”

Sorafarin had definitely miscalculated. She hadn’t expected the girl in front of her to wield such overwhelming energy. Had the power inside this body suddenly erupted?

Lunorette was just about to strike when, in the next instant, all the power she’d gathered vanished into thin air, as though it had never been there.

“What?”

Her magic—was gone?

That shouldn’t be possible. She’d used this spell plenty of times; there was no reason it wouldn’t work.

Even with her head full of questions, she didn’t waste time. Borrowing the blessing of the Thunder God, she called down raging lightning and charged Sorafarin head‑on, blasting the ground to pieces.

Sorafarin was just about to get serious and answer with her real strength, but when the smoke in front of her cleared, the girl who’d been there seconds ago was gone—like she’d never existed.

“Damn it! Manatsu Mio!”

She’d never suffered such humiliation. A high‑level combat asset of the Supernatural Investigation Bureau, made to lose the field because she got careless.

Having escaped, Lunorette didn’t dare linger. She slipped into a crowded area to avoid Sorafarin’s pursuit. In that sea of people, Sorafarin couldn’t find her and could only swallow her anger and head back to America.

Lunorette sat on the train, still shaken. She couldn’t even be bothered to notice the stunned looks passengers were sneaking at her.

“Moyu…”

What are you, really?

Why were things like this happening around her? Lunorette genuinely wanted to understand. From the looks of that woman earlier, this wasn’t the first time she’d come after Moyu.

Staring at her reflection in the train window, she could only feel that this girl was wrapped in way too many mysteries—so many that Lunorette couldn’t figure her out at all.

Suddenly, her phone rang. The girl pulled it out of her pocket.

“Hey, girl, it’s already noon. Why didn’t you come to school? Do you know how stupid that was?!”

Yuki’s voice sounded really angry.

“Answer me, where are you?!”

“……”

“Hey, girl?”

“I’m here.”

“Then talk to me! You skipped the exam today, you know you’re getting written up for that!”

“Hey, Yuki.”

The girl ignored Yuki’s angry tone. Her mind was on something else.

“Little Moyu… what am I?”
