Side Story: How Could I Be the Damsel Re
update icon Updated at 2025/12/10 17:30:58

I'm Wu Feng, an ordinary high school student at City X's No. 7 Middle School.

By ordinary, I mean utterly average—so average I'd vanish in a crowd.

Today, I left home at 6:40 AM as usual (not usual for me—I normally wake at 6:50), walking the small path to school like any other day.

Many routes lead to school, but I prefer this quiet path. It's always clean, unlike the grimy main roads.

Few people disturb its peace.

That's probably why the self-proclaimed goddess appeared there so casually that day.

And why I was stuck with a useless Fate Mark.

It sounded powerful, but my life hadn't changed a bit.

Still utterly ordinary, like a lake without a single ripple.

So today should've been routine—but it wasn't.

I ran into serious trouble.

Two figures stood not far off.

A man was dragging a girl. She screamed like she was calling for her prince.

No one helped. I was the only person around.

This path was deserted, and it was far too early.

Clearly, he meant to assault her. Only I could save her.

I couldn't see his face, but his muscular build screamed that ten otaku like me wouldn't stand a chance.

But that wasn't an excuse to ignore her.

And with that Fate Mark, it should be fine, right?

Right...

I took a deep breath, steeling my nerves, and stepped forward.

I'd planned to call the police first, but seeing him shove her to the ground, I couldn't hold back.

How could I back down now?

"Stop!"

I yelled, pouring all my courage into it.

The burly man jumped like he'd been clubbed from behind, nearly tripping flat like Rito from To Love-Ru.

"Hahaha!" He laughed like a cartoon villain. "Kid, playing hero? With you?"

Could you not even talk like a cliché bad guy?

"I called the police ten minutes ago," I said casually, waving my phone. "Believe it or not."

Outwardly calm, I was panicking inside, barely stopping my hands from shaking.

I knew trembling would make him doubt me.

I'd never called the police before, so I faked extra time.

"Damn cops!" He snarled, flashing a vicious glare. "You got lucky this time!"

Watching him retreat, I exhaled in relief.

He was strong but not reckless enough to beat me before backup arrived.

I'd gambled right.

If I'd lost, I'd be dead or crippled. My otaku frame couldn't take one punch.

"It's okay now," I said calmly to the girl, acting unfazed.

Up close, I finally saw her clearly.

She had silky black hair, a delicate nose, and a petite face. Her crimson lips glistened like they might bleed, tempting a kiss. She wore a fluffy cream dress, swaying gently in the breeze.

From my angle, I even spotted her SpongeBob-patterned underwear, making me almost laugh.

Lucky to see such a short skirt in China.

But her most striking feature was her ethereal eyes—so beautiful they seemed to hold an entire world.

A beauty beyond words.

"Sorry I wasn't faster. You might be hurt."

I helped her up, though I wasn't sure if she was injured. Just being polite.

"No way! You were amazing!"

She argued like she was defending a thesis.

"Really?" I smiled. "Good to hear."

"W-what's your name?"

She asked hesitantly, as if gathering all her courage.

"Wu Feng."

"Can I call you Little Feng?"

Little Feng? What the hell is that! Are you my mom? Even my mom doesn't call me that!

"Let's skip that."

"Then, Little Feng, which school do you attend?"

Why! I just said not to call me that!

"No. 7 Middle School."

Suddenly, I remembered something. I checked my phone.

The screen read 7:20 AM.

Crap. Definitely late. No point fighting it.

"Little Feng, what's wrong?"

She used her made-up nickname like a parent.

"Nothing," I said evenly. "But I have to go. Bye!"

Nothing mattered now—I was already late.

Arriving later would be worse. Our homeroom teacher, Liu Yongxue, was famously strict.

I sprinted off like a sports car.

"Little Feng, I'm Chu Xinyue!"

She shouted into the hot summer wind, as if scared I'd miss it.

Names didn't matter. My priority was reaching class ASAP.

I had no idea this day would drag me into such massive trouble later...
