13. The Unseemly Slumbering Visage

This morning's scene at the gate caught me off guard. Not only was I escorted by two beauties in public, but the Student Council president, on duty right there, saw everything clearly.

"Oh ho~ Student, state your name! Report to the Student Council office after school!"

The president pushed up her half-rimmed glasses, her tone loaded with meaning. Wait—shouldn't gate checks be the Discipline Committee's job? Since when did the Student Council overstep like this?!

I sighed helplessly, muttering about the situation. Since Student Council members stayed at school for lunch, I was ordered to report then for a scolding. I told Xiamo to grab lunch at the cafeteria, while Mengxiang headed home alone.

Come to think of it—why only me?! They shared the blame too, right? Why am I the sole one suffering?!

"The first room on the ground floor of the main building... I think?"

I strained to recall spots from the semester's start. Over half a term had passed; I'd forgotten everything. Luckily, I checked door signs and finally reached the Student Council office.

That spot between the main and special buildings—I'd confessed to my childhood friend there just days ago. Ugh—I never want to return!

"Listen up... stop meddling like nosy old ladies! It's annoying!"

A girl's roar echoed from the room-sized office. Why did I feel I'd come to the wrong place?! I glanced up again at the sign—Student Council. Correct, but this wasn't casual member chatter.

"Lingchuan, calm down! You've skipped school for three days. The school and classmates are worried..."

Why would so many worry over one absent student? I didn't buy that lie. Besides, the speaker probably lacked conviction.

"You're scared I'll cause trouble, right?! Hah—I'm not as bad as you think! I pick carefully who to beat and who not to, got it?!"

"But... but... school rules—"

"Don't hide behind rules! You've given up on delinquents like me anyway! Even my homeroom teacher ignores me—what more can you say?! I've no time to waste with you!"

The voice neared. Then, the office door slammed open, startling me. I'd been about to knock, but it swung wide, hitting the wall with a loud bang.

Before me stood a girl with golden-dyed hair. I could tell it wasn't natural—the ends were slightly darkened.

"Kid, blocking my way? Tired of living?!"

She glared fiercely at me, despite her obedient posture.

"S-sorry..."

I bowed my head, apologized, and stepped aside. She slung her bag over one shoulder, shot me a fierce glare as she passed, then hummed a tune toward the freshman building. Was she a junior? Could she be my classmate?

From her missing tie and uniform to her ankle-length skirt adorned with skull decorations—she broke every rule. No wonder she was called here.

I pushed aside my doubts and entered the gloomy office. A long table was piled with files. A girl sat in a chair, deep in thought—the Student Council president.

So, she alone had dealt with that delinquent. Our famous president couldn't handle one bad girl?!

"Um..." I broke the awkward silence. This tension made me uneasy; I needed her attention.

"What is it?"

A girl with half-rimmed glasses and a braid looked up. As president since last year, she ran the school well, despite her perpetually narrow eyes.

"Ah, you're Bai Huiyuan from Class 8, Grade 1, right?"

I nodded humbly. She seemed to recall something, her voice weary.

"Your incident... just don't overdo it. But—from now on, no inappropriate relationships with the opposite sex at school. Understand?! Keep it appropriate! That's all..."

She waved me off wearily. I stood dumbfounded, then was ushered out. What was the point of coming here anyway?!

I dragged myself to the cafeteria but didn't see Xiamo. A lunch lady relayed that Xiamo had left suddenly after a call, telling me not to wait after school—perfect! I could finally explain things to Mengxiang.

My mood lifted. But the cafeteria was twice as crowded, probably all here to see Xiamo. I couldn't enjoy a peaceful solo lunch. So, I sprinted to the school store, bought pineapple buns and milk, and headed back to class.

By the way, this was my first time eating openly in class! And arriving so early—wait, wasn't there someone else? I entered through the back door and found a new person in the seat between me and Mengxiang.

She seemed to be sleeping on the desk. As I got closer, I recognized her—the golden-haired delinquent from the Student Council office...

Heh heh heh... what a coincidence! I suddenly remembered—her name was Chen Lingchuan. She was my classmate, and her seat was right to my left.

She was fast asleep. I almost turned to leave but stopped. I hadn't done anything wrong—why run?

So, I sat down boldly and started eating. Her arms were propped under her head, her sleeping face toward me. If she didn't talk or move, she'd actually be pretty.

I muttered that strange thought, not believing I'd say it. But watching a girl sleep while eating felt... luxurious.

"She's actually really pretty..."

I blurted it out, then immediately covered my mouth. Ugh, what if I woke her over something so trivial?!

"So, pervert, how long have you been staring?! Looking for a death wish?!"

I realized she was talking to me. She opened her eyes, sat up slowly, and glared at me with sharp, fierce eyes.

"Well... if I said it was unavoidable, would you listen?"

"Die!"
