After class, I headed to the cafeteria with Nan Ling and Ouyang Chen. Just then, a stunning beauty with light blue hair and a curvaceous figure sprinted toward us, shouting:
"Little brother! I’ve missed you to death! Come here—let me hug you tight and recharge my Yeer Power!"
Before Lin Ye could reply, Ling Ling crushed him in a bear hug, clinging as if he might slip away.
"Sis, loosen up—I can’t breathe! I told you not to get clingy in public!" Lin Ye protested weakly.
"Tch. Cradle-snatcher. Shameless!" Nan Ling muttered sourly beside me.
"What did you say, fox spirit?!" Ling Ling’s eyes darkened instantly. "You’re dead meat! You’ve got your eyes on my Yeer, haven’t you? Admit it! Should I just eliminate you now? If you steal Yeer from me, I’ll lose my mind!"
Watching my sister’s descent into madness, I jumped in: "No, no, no! Sis, Nan Ling’s just a regular friend!"
Nan Ling turned her head away, expression unreadable. Ling Ling beamed. "Here, Yeer—your lunch. Student Council duties call!" She shot a glare at Nan Ling. "Listen well, fox spirit: lay a finger on Yeer, and you’ll meet your maker!"
"Hahaha, bye-bye, old hag!" Nan Ling shot back with icy sarcasm.
Ling Ling pretended not to hear and strode off.
Lin Ye just sighed. How could two usually aloof, dignified people turn into shrieking fishwives the moment they saw me? They nearly came to blows.
Just then, an F Class student bumped into someone from D Class—I recognized the green gem insignia on his uniform.
This academy sorted classes by color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, cyan, and violet for the seven tiers. Only the S Class uniforms bore a half-black, half-white yin-yang pattern.
The D Class student grabbed the purple-insignia boy. "Apologize."
"I’m sorry," the F Class student stammered.
"Speak up! I can’t hear you."
"Sorry!" he bellowed louder.
"Louder!"
By his third shout, every head in the cafeteria swiveled toward him. His face flushed crimson.
"Heh. Typical F Class—real experts at groveling," the D Class boy sneered before swaggering off.
I stepped into his path, voice low with utmost gravitas:
"I challenge you to a duel."
