The Norna Faith, the world's largest religion, spans the globe and exists in nearly every nation. Yet for the Demon Race, who stand at the pinnacle of power, no faith matters to Demonic Princess Rebecca. In a sense, she herself is a belief—a deity among demons.
Oh, you say the Norna Faith's Light Magic is the natural enemy of all dark creatures? Well, that seems true. Light Magic does inflict massive damage on beings from the dark world. But Rebecca is the daughter of the Dark Lord. Her bloodline is so potent it ignores attribute weaknesses entirely. So after bidding farewell to Laura and the others, she followed Kami into the Norna Cathedral in Rucadan as if returning home. As for Migao, though he hails from the dark world, Goblins belong to the Goblinkin race—not true dark creatures. Thus, the Light Magic shrouding the cathedral had no effect on him.
"Kami? You're back?" someone called out as soon as Kami entered.
"Yep~ Back already~" Kami replied, smiling brightly.
"You really went to the Dark Lord's palace?"
"Yep, but the Dark Lord wasn't there..."
"Not there? Huh? What's this—" The speaker froze mid-sentence upon seeing Rebecca, utterly stunned by her beauty.
"Oh~ This is Rebecca~ My friend~ She has nowhere to stay, so I brought her back~ Take her to my room first. I need to report to the teacher about recent matters~" Kami seemed reluctant to share more about Rebecca.
"Right, hurry to the Holy Maiden then. I'll escort your friend... Huh? A Goblin?" The person noticed the short Migao as he stepped closer.
"Oh, he's Rebecca's friend~ Just... take him to a guest room..." With that, Kami dashed off.
"Follow me, Miss Rebecca~"
Rebecca trailed the nun to Kami's room. The nun chattered nonstop, leaving Rebecca no time to admire the grand cathedral. She merely nodded along with vague "Mm"s and "Oh"s. Truthfully, Rebecca longed to find Rucadan's Great Library to search for the Alchemy Codex—or better yet, question some Kasmo Empire Witch Maidens. But she decided to play the harmless little girl first; a disguise would avoid trouble. For now, she'd endure this minor annoyance.
Kami's room featured white and gold—the core colors of the Norna Faith. It was simple and tidy: a bed, wardrobe, desk, chair, and bookshelf, all neatly arranged with nothing extra. The space felt clear and refreshing.
But Rebecca barely noticed. Her eyes locked onto the bookshelf. She strode over and began flipping through the titles.
"*Norna Prophecies*, *Light and Darkness*, *The Glorious Kasmo Empire*, *Compendium of Healing Magic*, *Compendium of Purification Magic*..." Rebecca scanned them one by one. Yet the shelves held only pious hymns to glory or traditional Norna Light Magic texts—no books on magical potions at all.
"Rebecca~ Reading already? You really love books, huh~" Kami returned just as Rebecca was searching the shelves.
Rebecca set down *On the Role of Light Magic in Cooking* as Kami entered.
"Eh? Don't be shy. My books are yours to read—no need to hold back." Kami handed her a cup of water while speaking.
Rebecca took it and drank. But when she set the cup down, she found Kami staring intently at her.
"W... What's wrong?"
"Hehe~ Nothing. That was holy water. It's infused with Light energy—purifies the body, very healthy~"
"Holy water?" Rebecca glanced at the empty cup, recalling the taste. It seemed utterly ordinary...
"Yes. A magic circle carved at the bottom of a well behind the cathedral fills the water with Light energy~" Kami smiled brightly, though a flicker of doubt crossed her eyes—unnoticed by Rebecca.
"I see... Is it... precious?" Rebecca asked.
"Mm, very. It can annihilate dark creatures on contact!" Kami suddenly turned serious.
"Uh..." Rebecca paused, realizing she'd just swallowed something akin to acid for dark beings. But how could well water filtered by a mere magic circle harm the Dark Lord's daughter?
"Of course, for humans, it only strengthens the body and cures minor illnesses~" Kami grinned again, studying Rebecca closely. Seeing no reaction, she frowned slightly.
"Holy water... precious... Rebecca... no... more" Rebecca stammered.
"Don't worry—it's just holy water. Oh, right, this is for you. A gift~" Kami pulled out a box and took out a necklace.
"This... is a Norna Knot...?" Rebecca recognized it. The Norna Knot was the symbol of the Norna Faith—a circular ring with a hollow, eight-petaled flower inside. It possessed strong purifying power...
"Huh? I didn't expect you to recognize a Norna Knot after being kidnapped by the Dark Lord as a child. Well, I never got to give you a gift before. Now that we're back in Rucadan, consider this a welcome-home present~" Kami fastened the knot around Rebecca's neck, then kept watching her.
Rebecca looked down at the knot, lifted it to examine it, and said, "Pretty... I like it... Thank you..."
"Uh... Oh, no need to thank me~ Hehe~ Rest for now. I'll prepare lunch~"
"Oh... Can I... read books...?" Rebecca pointed at the shelf.
"Of course. Take your time~" Kami left with a smile.
"Strange. Could I be wrong? Is she not of the Demon Race? Sigh... Have I been too paranoid lately..." Kami muttered outside the room.
Inside, Rebecca remained unaware of Kami's suspicions. Her immense power had neutralized the dark-creature counters, easing Kami's doubts.
