042 What a Perfect Coincidence

Chen Peng went off to handle prep work for the new script.

He actually didn’t have much to change—he just needed to pre-load a few new sets in the studio they’d already booked.

So the shoot got pushed back by one day.

And for that one day, Chunan had a new mission—

Go buy a watch.

In the script, the character he played came from a pretty wealthy family. He had a luxury watch his dad gave him for his birthday, and there was a shot early in the movie that needed that watch—more accurately, that watch was what kicked off the romance between the male and female leads.

This wasn’t in the original plot, but getting a luxury watch ready was nothing but a word for Chen Peng. The reason he handed the task to Chunan was that he wanted to show a bit of gratitude.

“There’s a high-end watch store on the third floor of Jiujiang Commercial Tower, it’s called Longtu. I’ve got a… uh, discount card for it. Take this card, and anything you buy there is fifty percent off. Go pick something you like.” Before leaving, Chen Peng handed Chunan a black card. “If you’re short on cash, you can borrow from me. Just pay me back after you earn your first bit of money.”

He didn’t just directly give Chunan a watch because he was worried that a young guy with talent and pride like him wouldn’t like accepting charity. No reward without merit—at least, that’s how he saw it. Even though he felt Chunan had already helped him a ton, from the way Chunan acted, it was like he’d only done a tiny favor. If he really gifted him something too expensive, it would feel a bit awkward. Doing it this way seemed the most suitable.

…Too bad he didn’t tell Chunan straight that, honestly, Chunan was more than happy to accept charity.

Well, that’s not the kind of topic you can be upfront about anyway.

Not knowing what Chen Peng was thinking, Chunan was pretty happy about it. “Brother Chen really takes care of me… With this card, anything I buy is half off? This is basically a super VIP card, right?”

In his mind, a membership card that gave ten percent off was already a crazy good deal. Fifty percent off everything… that was unheard of.

Then Chen Peng explained, “That’s one of the stores under my family’s company. This card gives you fifty percent off in any of our stores.”

Chunan: “…”

Right. Never mind then.

So, the next day, as soon as he got up, he headed out with Xiaohan. You could count it as their last day off before work officially started.

After all, Xiaohan had been working pretty hard these past two days too.

Shu Xuemu had taught her a lot of vocal techniques. Her comprehension was great, and she’d picked up most of it in just two days. With some proper systematic training, her singing had improved a lot compared to before.

But after practicing songs nonstop for two whole days, the kid was practically sung stupid.

Time to relax.

“So we’re getting hotpot?” As soon as they hit the street, Xiaohan asked excitedly.

Chunan shot her a sideways look. “Hotpot this early? Relax, you’re not missing that meal.”

“Then what are we doing now?” Xiaohan didn’t argue with him.

Chunan rubbed his face and started walking ahead. “Going to buy a watch.”

Jiujiang Commercial Tower sat in the city center, one of the busiest spots in all of Jiujiang. Even on weekdays, it was basically never quiet.

What puzzled Chunan was why there were so many people shopping every single day.

Xiaohan also wasn’t much into wandering around malls, unless it was one of the very few places she actually liked—like the food street or the arcade street. Otherwise, she usually had zero motivation.

Last time she was excited about shopping for clothes, that was just because she needed them—and because it was her first time buying girls’ clothes.

Now that she had enough clothes, she’d pretty much lost interest in that area.

So Chunan didn’t drag her around the mall. He took her straight to the store Chen Peng had mentioned.

The third floor was basically all luxury brands, so there were fewer customers than on the other floors, but overall it was still pretty lively. Even if you weren’t buying anything, you could always come up here to widen your horizons.

When Chunan found the Longtu watch boutique, there were quite a few customers inside.

They also spotted two very familiar faces—the couple from the clothing store last time. That guy had even struck up a conversation with Chunan back then.

But this time, when the guy saw Chunan and Xiaohan, the sympathy of fellow sufferers from last time was gone. His facial muscles twitched, and his first instinct was to pull his girlfriend and bail.

Last time, because of this guy, he’d bled money hard and ended up buying over three grand’s worth of clothes for his girlfriend. He still remembered this guy was some “rising star” type. Staying far away from people like that was definitely the smart move.

Chunan only glanced at them and had no intention of talking. After a salesgirl came over to ask if he needed help, he turned his attention to the watches in the display case.

He didn’t know much about watches. High-end, low-end, he wasn’t too clear on the difference. Chen Peng had specifically said he should get something decent, so it didn’t feel right to pick something too cheap.

So after thinking for a moment, he asked, “Do you… have anything here that’s, like, pretty good?”

Hearing that, the salesgirl froze for a moment.

People who asked that kind of question were usually the ones who had basically no idea about watches. But people who didn’t know watches usually wouldn’t come to this kind of store to buy one.

Not that it never happened… but most of those were just outsiders asking about prices. The vast majority wouldn’t actually buy—unless they were ridiculously rich and generous, which was a tiny fraction of a tiny fraction.

After mentally crossing these two off the “potential customers” list, the salesgirl still put on a polite smile and got ready to introduce the watches to them—after all, that was her job, and her professionalism wouldn’t let her look down on anyone.

But before she could speak, a voice suddenly came from the side. “Bro, you’re trying to buy a watch? How about I give you some recommendations?”

When they turned, it was that same couple.

The guy was smiling warmly at Chunan, looking super friendly.

The salesgirl was more than happy to step back. “Then, sir, do you still need my assistance?”

Chunan thought for a moment, then smiled. “No, it’s fine. You can go help someone else, thanks.”

With that, he looked at the couple. “What a coincidence, seeing you again.”

“Yeah, seriously, what a coincidence.” The guy grinned from ear to ear. “Means we’re fated, huh? I’m Liu Yi, and this is my girlfriend, Ye Xiaoxi. What are your names? Let’s be friends.”

Liu Yi had actually been about to leave, but when he happened to hear what Chunan just said, he changed his mind.

Anything the salesgirl could think of, he could too—since this bro clearly knew nothing about watches but still came to a place like this, in his view, chances were he was trying to show off in front of his girlfriend. This entire floor was luxury goods. As long as you could afford anything here, no matter if it was high-end or entry-level, just the sales clerk’s smile at checkout was enough to give you serious face.

Don’t ask how he knew. Because he’d done the same thing before.

So… since this bro had made him bleed money last time, now that they’d run into each other again, he wasn’t about to be polite.

He was definitely going to… give him some very enthusiastic “recommendations.”

Heh.
