Chapter 48: The Grand Stage Unfolds

Evil never sees its own deeds as filthy and repulsive. It simply imposes its warped values again and again, insisting your suffering is only natural. Such people pretend to sleep—and you can never wake those who feign slumber. Mirror October knew this well.

So he never wasted time rousing escapees. Mirror October’s method was brutally simple: drag them straight into his game. In that impartial arena, whether you slept or not, the cruel trials forced deadly seriousness. Wu Jianguo, I’ll truly wake you. I’ll make you face your own repulsive heart—a heart you’ve likely never examined.

“I want to play a game with you,” Mirror October whispered, his chilling voice soft as he slowly rose from the sofa, puppet mask in place. “Pass the trials, and an unprecedented gift awaits your future. You’ll grasp life’s true value—not treat others’ lives as mere commodities to be priced.”

No one refused his game. No one broke it.

Rule-breakers died without fail. Only those who truly understood his game earned the right to rise from scum to human—to know life’s meaning.

As Z City’s underworld emperor, Wu Jianguo had climbed from small-time thug to gang kingpin, shielded by official Superhero allies. His gray income flowed endlessly; even Z City’s mayor bowed politely. But now, Wu Jianguo was paralyzed with terror! All his power dissolved under the inhuman gaze of this demon calmly describing his game.

SS-Class criminal: Saw!

The very existence the Superhero Administration hunted relentlessly yet could never catch.

Insiders knew Saw enacted a brutal, bloody justice. He was less a criminal, more an idealist who stopped at nothing. Wu Jianguo had always believed he’d face Saw calmly someday.

But when Saw truly knocked, he realized—he’d never been ready.

This fanatic tolerated zero evil, his idealism bordering on obsession! He stood above law and morality; no criminal escaped him unscathed. Wu Jianguo knew he must play—and decipher the game’s depth—to survive.

“I accept the game…”

“Very good! Before we start, I must say—you’re a cunning wolf. Shallow games won’t probe your heart deeply enough.” Mirror October knew this underworld emperor would abandon anything to survive. “So this game will be… extremely, extremely cruel! It will awaken the heart you’ve lost over decades…”

Rape. Murder. Arson. Loan-sharking. Drug trafficking. Human trafficking. Organized crime. Wu Jianguo’s rise dripped with others’ blood and tears. Especially in those illegal coal mines—souls trapped underground glared at him from the lightless depths, desperate to drag him to hell and make him feel their agony. Having inspected those sites, Mirror October understood Dragon Sparrow’s breakdown. So he allowed it.

He granted permission—the wailing spirits’ permission.

As Mirror October once told An Yi: “You think only the living judge you, while the dead watch silently? No. Let me tell you—you’re wrong!”

“We?” Wu Jianguo, a seasoned veteran, felt his fierce brows twitch. Dread surged through him.

“You’ll know the other players well. Sadly, you’ll face life-and-death trials together. Your power, money, and schemes mean nothing now. Salvation and redemption aren’t up to me or you—they’re up to… fate.” The Jigsaw Sect would spare no participant. This was their stance. Their resolve!

This was their second move from shadows to light—after publicly trying a B-Class Superhero in City C and slapping the Superhero Administration’s face. But Mirror October didn’t fully lead this time. The obsessed disciple Dragon Sparrow orchestrated it!

“What are the rules?! What are they?!”

“Calm down. The game hasn’t started. Let’s talk. People fascinate me—their dualities. The virtuous, wrapped in silk and jewels, ooze ugly desires in private. High goddesses strip bare, writhing for vanity. Stern businessmen snort drugs while controlling lives, trembling with thrill. ‘Clean’ politicians scheme to exploit and indulge. It’s always disgustingly the same—and you’re no exception.” Mirror October’s detached tone held no anger. All fury had frozen into ice, chilling Wu Jianguo to the bone.

Mirror October’s grotesque mask deepened, its crimson hue like surging blood, ready to drip at any moment.

No killing intent. No anger. Just cold, mechanical narration. Yet Wu Jianguo felt profound unease. This frail, slender devil was their high society’s natural enemy!

Beasts in fine suits—ha!—now feared the criminals they branded. What bitter irony!

“Ready, Saw.” “Target captured. Awaiting orders, October.” Messages from Dragon Sparrow and Lu Xiu at the Mirror Flower Node arrived. Everything was set.

“Our performance begins…”

Simultaneously, Lu Xiu—pinning a powerful elder underfoot—and Dragon Sparrow—having beaten a scum hero beyond recognition—both flashed fierce, chilling smiles. The stage was ready. Everyone stood in position.

Now, the curtain slowly rose…
