"How is this possible..."
In the library, Lin Mengyao’s slightly dazed voice instantly drew everyone’s attention.
She knew she shouldn’t make noise here, but she just couldn’t help it. Moments ago, Jiang Fan had breezed through last year’s college entrance exam math paper right under her nose—in just over an hour. He’d only attempted the first parts of the last two big questions, but that speed was anything but slow.
As Lin Mengyao took the test from him to check the score, unease grew with each calculation.
Jiang Fan had nearly all the basic questions correct. He scored 65 points from multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blanks alone, losing only 15 points for three errors. That was already at the school’s average level.
The calculations and statistics sections were perfect. For the 12-point geometry problem, he got 8. His solutions were impeccably standard—she couldn’t even find a bone to pick.
In the end, Jiang Fan’s paper scored a staggering 118 points.
It wasn’t a high score, but it was definitely enough to satisfy Shu Yue.
"So I told you I didn’t need tutoring. Believe me now? Let’s go find Teacher Shu to explain. That should clear things up. You don’t want to stay with me anyway, right?"
Jiang Fan stretched lazily. It’d been ages since such intense mental exercise, and it felt unfamiliar. Luckily, his knowledge hadn’t rusted—he could still put pen to paper. Scoring fifty or sixty would’ve been a massive embarrassment.
"Haven’t you done this paper before?"
Lin Mengyao still couldn’t believe it. Xia Yining had told her about Jiang Fan’s grades—all below passing, a total bottom-feeder who dragged the class average down. How had he suddenly become so fierce?
This isn’t scientific!
"Tch. I prefer keeping a low profile. I hide my strength during exams. Got a problem with that?" Jiang Fan clicked his tongue, a hint of annoyance in his voice.
*I just wanted to get along as a slacker, but got distance and disdain instead...*
Fine. He’d come clean—he was a score-controlling master.
Lin Mengyao fell silent. She knew her words had been disrespectful, but apologizing was out of the question. She still didn’t understand his motives, so skepticism lingered.
"...I’ll give you a few problems to solve. Get them right, and I’ll believe you." After a moment’s hesitation, she looked at Jiang Fan seriously.
Jiang Fan didn’t want to drag this out. He nodded without thinking.
"Hurry up. I’m in a rush to get back to sleep—uh, class."
Hearing this, Lin Mengyao snapped back, annoyed: "All you do is eat and sleep! Are you a pig or something?"
"Sorry, I was born in ’03, Year of the Goat. Besides eating, what else is there but sleeping?" Jiang Fan retorted dryly, making her bite back another sarcastic remark.
Just then, the librarian tapped their table lightly. Lin Mengyao realized they’d become the center of attention, many shooting disapproving glares.
She quickly sat down, face slightly flushed as she apologized. Then she shot Jiang Fan a fierce glare but finally shut her mouth.
Fuming, she pulled out her phone, found their class’s mock exam papers, and randomly selected two or three questions per subject. After cropping out the answers, she placed the phone before Jiang Fan.
"Go ahead. These are from our mock college entrance test. Slightly harder, but not extreme. Let’s see how many you solve." Lin Mengyao had learned her lesson, lowering her voice quietly.
Jiang Fan skimmed the phone, then looked at her with surprise. "Huh. All normal questions? I thought you’d pick hellish ones to annoy me. Guess you’re not that petty. My bad—sorry."
"What kind of person do you think I am...? Apologize properly! Don’t say it so casually! There’s not a shred of sincerity—are you being sarcastic?!"
Jiang Fan nodded seriously. "You caught me."
"Whoa, calm down. The librarian’s looking over again. Careful, or we’ll get kicked out."
Lin Mengyao glared fiercely but suppressed her anger. In her fury, she stood up, leaned across the table, bent her slender waist, and bit hard into Jiang Fan’s arm.
"Hiss! Why do you girls all love biting so much?"
Jiang Fan was caught off guard, almost crying out. She was serious! Clear tooth marks marred his skin, blood seeping from both sides. Didn’t she know how sharp her canines were?
Pain knotted his brows instantly. Only his willpower kept him from breaking down.
"Hmph!" Seeing his pained expression, Lin Mengyao’s frustration eased. She finally realized how easy revenge was.
*After all, I’m a girl—and a pretty one. Bullying boys is my right.*
Besides, Jiang Fan had provoked her first. This was self-defense!
She beamed at him wincing in pain, heart swelling with joy. *Serves you right for always bullying me!*
The commotion drew the librarian back. Having warned them once, she wouldn’t tolerate more. Sternly, she ordered both to leave immediately.
Knowing she was at fault, Lin Mengyao didn’t argue and obediently stood to leave.
Jiang Fan followed. But the kind-hearted librarian, seeing his bite wound, brought a small first-aid kit.
"You students... can’t you be discreet when dating? Some teachers are open-minded, but you’re reckless. Most break up couples on sight—you’re not afraid of expulsion?" As she bandaged his arm, she muttered quietly: "And your girlfriend... biting that hard? If I were you, no matter how pretty she is, I wouldn’t stay with such a nasty temper."
Lin Mengyao had already left, so only Jiang Fan heard. He looked slightly dazed, then smiled after a pause. "Yeah. A girlfriend with a bad temper isn’t suitable to keep... even if she’s really pretty."
"Don’t say it so absolutely. That was just me venting." The librarian finished the bandage, packing the kit while adjusting her glasses with slight embarrassment. "Pretty girls often have a princess complex—it’s normal. They just want to be cherished. As long as it’s not extreme, yielding on small things is fine. Treasure the one you love."
Jiang Fan nodded with a smile, standing to thank her sincerely.
*Treasure the one you love...*
