Chapter 31: The Imperial Heist
update icon Updated at 2025/12/29 4:00:02

First-tier quests were mostly easy tasks. Think cleaning the empire’s streets, unclogging sewers, or gathering bloodroot herbs from the Monster Woods’ outskirts. Rewards ranged from two Daluo coins to one Small Yala Coin.

Second-tier commissions carried higher risks. They often involved tricky problems.

For example: slay a second-tier Unihorn Wolf, bring its horn to the Adventurers Guild. Reward: eight Small Yala Coins.

Help solve the empire’s theft case by catching the culprit. Bounty: ten Small Yala Coins.

Head to the Crystal Mine, extract one jin of blue crystal, and return it. Reward: ten Small Yala Coins.

And so on…

Start with the Unihorn Wolf. Wolves were cunning pack hunters. Spot one, and others lurked nearby. To kill it and take its horn, you faced a whole pack. One slip, and you became their meal.

The empire’s theft case? Rumors said the thief was a second-tier expert. He stole women’s undergarments, leaving guards humiliated. Agile and stealthy—he’d be hard to catch.

The Crystal Mine quest lay seven to eight li northeast of Camilla City. Rock Crystal monsters infested it. Their bodies were rock-hard; cheap swords shattered after two strikes. And crystals were their favorite food.

Like pulling teeth from a tiger—would they let you steal their lifeblood easily?

Leyang chose the theft case commission. He couldn’t leave Camilla City soon—he had theory classes. Plus, Phoenix needed to teach him Camila Empire’s script.

Compared to quests requiring travel, this fit better. Honestly, catching an underwear thief didn’t excite him. But for the money, he’d reluctantly help.

Leyang noted the commission name and approached the counter. "Hello, I’ll take the second-tier quest—the Empire Theft Case. Register it for me."

"Huh? Accepting a commission already?"

"Wait a moment, Lord Evil Slaughter."

The receptionist processed a form swiftly, stamping it with the Adventurers Guild’s seal.

"Done. No deposit needed. Catch the thief, bring him here or to imperial authorities. We’ll verify and send your reward."

"Understood. Your name?"

"You may call me Lily, Lord Evil Slaughter."

"Lily, hmm."

Leyang nodded. Knowing her name eased future talks.

Absolutely not flirting—he was just an eight-year-old kid. No wrong ideas.

Leyang left the guild. This thief evaded guards repeatedly, stealing undergarments. No ordinary foe—he needed preparation.

The thief struck at night, targeting sleeping women.

Leyang glanced up. Unnoticed, the sun had set.

Night fell. Lamps lit homes. Leyang stored supplies in his Spatial Magic Tool, found a clear vantage point, and crouched while circulating his cultivation technique.

Nightlife emerged. In Camilla City’s outer districts, bold women solicited customers. Guards slacked off patrols. Glamorous figures dazzled, stirring chaos.

Commoners drowned in revelry; nobles wallowed in luxury. All human spectacles unfolded before Leyang. Yet his heart stayed calm as still water. He only wanted that thief—for the bounty.

Sadly, he crouched all night with no luck.

Dawn broke. Leyang returned to Kamila Noble Academy.

His heavy armor’s chest plate bulged awkwardly under the uniform. He removed it, keeping leg and arm guards beneath the academy clothes. Almost no difference.

He maxed the leg and arm guards’ weight—around three to four hundred jin total. The chest plate bore the real load, over six hundred jin when magic-infused.

Back in Class A, Leyang entered to strange stares. He ignored them, sitting down.

"Has Phoenix not arrived?" He needed her to read early—learning characters meant easier commissions later. Yesterday’s theory class with Soya Jemi and Phoenix’s help, plus his sharp mind, let him grasp some guild quests.

"Nebis Leyang," a responsible-looking boy confronted him. "As vice monitor, lead by example. Why skip yesterday’s practical class?"

"I had important matters. Simple. And I’ve said—ask Soya Jemi to replace me as vice monitor anytime. I don’t care." Leyang shook his head, gaze calm.

"What attitude is that?"

"Facts. I’m using my academy privileges. Don’t disturb my reading if nothing else." He waved impatiently.

"Lord Leyang!"

Glantham Phoenix and Ailin Camila Lumier entered together.

"Phoenix, hurry. I’ve waited long."

"Huh? Lord Leyang waited for me?" Phoenix was slightly surprised, a hint of joy inside.

"Come, keep reading to me."

"Oh, okay!"
