Yvette, the personal maid tending to Princess Ailin Camila Lumier’s daily needs, served tea and snacks to the trio. She then stood quietly beside Princess Lumei, looking serene.

Lumiere chatted with Phoenix, sharing light-hearted jokes and amusing tales from Camilla City. Slowly, Phoenix’s stiffness melted away.

Leyang sipped his tea and nibbled snacks in silence. Since his reincarnation on Doloryara Continent, he’d never felt this relaxed.

“Lord Leyang, why so quiet?” Princess Ailin Camila Lumier noticed his expression. “Is the tea or snacks not to your liking?”

“No, both are excellent,” Nebis Leyang shook his head slightly, smiling faintly. “You two chat. I’m happy just listening.”

“I heard you’re the son of the Nebis Lord,” Princess Lumier suggested kindly. “Why not share some interesting stories from Nebis territory? I’ve lived in the palace all my life and know little of the outside world.”

What a thoughtful girl. Was she easing his awkwardness by giving him a topic?

“Hmm… Nebis territory isn’t like others. We’re poor—just a rundown noble house. Barely any families live there. Everyone struggles daily for survival. No time for amusing tales.”

“But if you’d like, I can tell you a few stories.”

In his past life, Leyang had read countless novels, manga, and fairy tales. Telling stories would be easy.

“Stories? Yes! My mother used to tell me stories when I couldn’t sleep.”

Phoenix’s eyes sparkled with anticipation.

“My mother also told me bedtime stories,” Princess Lumier said softly. “But she passed away when I was five. No one’s told me stories since.”

A trace of sadness flickered across her face. At only eight years old, how could she stay strong after losing her mother?

“Princess Lumei…” Yvette’s eyes showed concern, her heart aching.

“Don’t be sad,” Leyang said gently, recalling a novel scene. “I believe your mother became a star in the sky, watching over you always.”

“Really?”

“Yes. Really.”

A harmless lie.

“Let me tell you a story. Long ago, in a castle, lived a princess…”

Time slipped by unnoticed. As dusk fell, Phoenix and Leyang bid farewell to Lumiere. Phoenix was captivated by the stories, and Lumiere seemed reluctant to part.

“I had a wonderful time today. Thank you for the tea and snacks, Princess Lumier.”

Phoenix bowed respectfully.

“You’re welcome, Phoenix. Let’s play again tomorrow.” Princess Lumier’s lovely face lit up with a sweet smile. “Lord Leyang, I look forward to our next meeting. Your stories were wonderful. I loved them.”

“See you next time,” Leyang nodded. He’d escort Phoenix back; tomorrow she’d move to Zone A.

“Lord Leyang, today was so fun! I never expected Princess Lumier to be so approachable. And those delicious snacks!”

Phoenix beamed at him.

“Phoenix, dealing with royalty requires caution.”

“Huh? What do you mean, Lord Leyang?”

“The royal court is deep waters. Princess Ailin Camila Lumier might have other reasons for approaching us. You’re valuable now with your talent. More suitors will come. Always think carefully before acting.”

Leyang looked at her earnestly. He liked this kid and didn’t want her exploited.

“Eh? Are you saying Princess Lumier isn’t a good person?!” Phoenix looked shocked.

“Fool. There are no absolute good or bad people—only different standpoints. You’re too young to understand. Just be careful.”

He rapped her forehead lightly, sighing.

“Oh…” Phoenix rubbed her head, looking innocent.

“Tomorrow you move to Zone A. Need help with anything?”

“No—well, yes! Could you help me move tomorrow, Lord Leyang?”

She almost refused but changed her mind.

“You’re not shy, are you? Fine. I’ll find you tomorrow.”

Leyang blinked. He’d only been polite, but she took it seriously.

“Hehe~ My father says, ‘A man’s word is his bond.’ You can’t back out, Lord Leyang!”

“I—get down!”

A sharp whistle cut the air. Leyang’s face darkened. He tackled Phoenix to the ground. Her face flushed red. Before she could speak, an arrow whistled past their heads, embedding in a nearby tree.

“Assassins!” Phoenix paled, trembling with fear.

“Dare to touch what’s mine? You’re dead!” Leyang’s eyes glinted with cold fury.

“Stay hidden. I’ll check.”

“Don’t go! It’s dangerous!”

“I’ll be back soon. Take care of yourself.”

He patted her hand gently, then charged toward the arrow’s origin. The assassin’s aura lingered—definitely Bronze-tier or higher!

Leyang leaped onto a tree branch, scanning the area. The assassin was professional: one missed shot, and they vanished. No trail to follow.

“If I find you, I’ll make you regret ever being born!”

His past life made him fiercely protective. Anyone harming those close to him would face bloody vengeance.

“Enough. Phoenix must be worried. I’ll return first.”
