008 The Three Paths of Survival

Seeing the card, Derek froze for a moment—he had the uncanny feeling of being tossed into a gacha pool.

But he knew better.

*Destiny* was a single-player game. No gacha mechanics. This was the character profile interface.

The rarity shown before the name wasn’t for summoning—it reflected potential.

In *Destiny*, players embodied Leon Lancelot, gathering companions to overcome trials.

A companion’s growth ceiling hinged on this potential rating, guiding players on who to invest in.

Derek Wudewen didn’t disappoint: SSR potential.

No surprise. During the "Pride" route, he’d solo-wiped Leon’s party multiple times. Anything less than SSR would’ve been absurd.

Yet scrolling to his detailed stats still stunned him…

**Character: Derek Wudewen**

~

**Potential: SSR**

**Strength: 9** (Physical attack power, explosive strength)

**Agility: 9** (Speed, evasion)

**Magic: 10** (Magical damage, total mana)

**Stamina: 8** (Vitality, health regen, endurance)

**Spirit: 10** (Casting speed, mental resistance)

**Defense: 8** (Magic/physical resistance)

~

**Elemental Affinity:** Lightning, Darkness

Lightning Affinity: 8

Darkness Affinity: 10 (Max)

~

**Tier: I** (Characters advance tiers every 10 levels. Only then can they learn tier-matched spells and combat skills.)

**Skills: None**

~

**Trait:**

*Curse: Witch’s Favor*

The host, blessed by the Witch, achieves Max Darkness Affinity. Yet corrupted by her dark power, their expressed words twist outwardly. While cursed, the host must carefully manage relationships with the opposite sex. Excessive intimacy invites the Witch’s jealousy—and unpredictable calamity.

These six core stats weren’t current values—they were fixed potential ratings forming the "Potential Hexagram."

Example: Derek’s Strength 9 vs. Teresia’s 6. At equal levels, both trained to their absolute limits with no defense, Derek would always overpower her in pure strength.

But if Derek lazed in the duke’s manor while Teresia trained hard daily? Teresia could flip him—even at the same level. He’d simply failed to unlock his potential.

These numbers reflected growth ceilings, not current power.

Judging by this Hexagram alone, Derek’s potential was absurdly high.

In *Destiny*, SSR required 48+ total points.

Protagonist Leon Lancelot was SSR: Str 9, Agi 8, Mag 9, Sta 8, Spi 7, Def 8 (Total 49).

Yet Derek still outclassed him.

Five points higher total. Max Spirit and Magic.

Elemental Affinity determined magical suitability.

Six primary elements existed: Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, Light, Dark.

Lightning was rare—a fusion of Fire and Light.

Similar rarities included Ice, Poison, Wood, and Spatial.

Affinity boosted learning speed, casting speed, damage, and mana efficiency for that element.

As intel suggested, Derek specialized in Lightning and Darkness.

But his Darkness Affinity was terrifying. Nine was the usual cap—Derek had shattered it.

With this potential and affinity, Derek’s future was bright—if he avoided early death or corruption.

His Tier I status was awkward. Zero skills.

Understandable—he was only ten, barely starting real training.

Thinking of age, Derek recalled the earlier mess in his room.

Nobles often betrothed at twelve, married after sixteen.

Without R18 restrictions, this world matured fast. Early romance wasn’t unusual.

Only the Trait remained.

Traits were unique attributes—often valued more than potential.

A powerful Trait could overshadow low potential. But what was *Curse: Witch’s Favor*?

‘Max Darkness Affinity’ was a massive buff.

‘Corrupted by the Witch’s evil power, causing outward expression to twist’…

*Huh?!*

*This?!*

*So you’re the culprit!*

He’d blamed the subtitle team unfairly.

His loose tongue? All the curse’s fault!

Did this also explain why Derek was so infuriating during the "Pride" route?!

Seriously—what did Witch Claudius even *like* about him? He’d change it!

And that "jealousy brings calamity" bit? Textbook obsessive yandere. The type who’d drag you into a dark room for endless torment.

This "favor" felt crushing.

Understanding himself updated his "Doomed Endings":

**First: Canonical Doom.**

He joined the Witch Cult, became a true villain, and got wiped by the grown-up heroes.

*Solution:* Avoid villainy. Don’t make enemies of the main party.

**Second: Collateral Doom.**

He stayed neutral, but the Cult grew too strong. The Witch resurrected, destroying the world. He perished in the chaos.

*Solution:* Strengthen the heroes. Help them defeat the Cult.

**Third: Curse Doom.**

Simple: He flirted with a beauty. Poof—he ceased to exist.

*Solution:* Avoid women.

But he was a man. A few years of celibacy? Maybe. A lifetime? Death was better.

Besides—he was *handsome*. Wasting that felt criminal.

True solution: Break the curse at its source.

Which meant defeating the Witch. Again, relying on the heroes.

To survive, he needed three rules…

Derek set down his pen. His notebook brimmed with notes. Three ironclad rules were underlined:

*Break from the villain faction;*

*Subtly aid the main party;*

*Keep distance from the opposite sex until the curse lifts.*
