Now, the pressure was on Wang Jing.

He had no clue about girls' subtle social tactics. He simply felt a little giddy hearing his girlfriend Qiqi praise him so much in front of her roommate.

So, he didn’t want Qiqi to lose face before her friends.

Actually, Wang Jing and Cheng Yu’s dorm was right across from Zhao’s. But Wang Jing had always been arrogant, never caring about those around him. He didn’t even know who Zhao was.

He wrapped an arm around Qiqi, strutting proudly as he looked at Zhao.

“Of course, baby. I’ll treat you to dinner at Saizeriya. It’s just pocket change—who can’t afford that?”

He called out, “Waiter, come here.”

The waiter, who’d been standing nearby, hurried over obediently. Wang Jing pulled out his phone, opened his WeChat QR code, paused for a moment, then said:

“How about this? I’ll pay you 3,000 yuan. From this second on, I’ll cover every customer’s bill in this store—everyone already here and everyone who walks in—until the money runs out.”

3,000 yuan was about a month’s living expenses for most college students.

Yet Wang Jing didn’t hesitate. He chatted and laughed with Qiqi, as if silently asking if she was pleased.

Qiqi’s heart soared with joy, but she kept a modest smile on her face, giving a slight nod. Then she glanced sideways at her roommate Yaoyao.

Her eyes held that classic web-novel mix: a trace of mockery, a hint of coldness, and a dash of nonchalance.

Yaoyao stayed silent, just smiling back at Qiqi—but her smile held not a shred of warmth.

She clung to Zhao’s arm, pouting and shaking it with exaggerated, squeaky cuteness.

“Mmm… no way! This is our first date, darling. It needs romance and ceremony! (I’m making you spend big to crush that little bitch!)”

Zhao caught Yaoyao’s sweet fragrance and felt the softness against his arm. His head spun a little.

Just a freshman who’d never even had a girlfriend, Zhao was blinded by this sugary trap. He lost all sense of what mattered.

He quickly agreed, “Okay, okay, okay,” calming Yaoyao. Then he called the waiter over and casually asked:

“How much does this place make in a night?”

“Uh… well, usually… about 5,000 yuan…” the waiter stammered, utterly confused by these two peers.

Zhao nodded thoughtfully. He pulled out his phone’s QR code and said:

“Then I’ll pay 5,000. Tonight, every customer’s bill is on me—”

“10,000!” Wang Jing interrupted, digging his ear with a scoff.

“I’ll cover tomorrow’s entire day of customers. Tell them it’s my gift to make my baby happy.”

“A-Jing… you’re so sweet.” Qiqi shyly leaned on Wang Jing’s shoulder, her mood soaring as she looked at Yaoyao.

She didn’t believe her roommate’s brand-new boyfriend would spend much…

“One million.”

Zhao’s calm voice silenced the entire Saizeriya.

Wang Jing had just sneered “One—” when his face twisted in shock. He stammered loudly:

“How… how much?!”

His voice cracked from sheer disbelief. Metal utensils clattered to the floor around the restaurant—everyone was stunned.

They stared at the boy with a youthful, baby-faced look. No one could see him as someone who’d casually throw around a million yuan.

The waiter froze. Saizeriya’s yearly revenue might exceed that, but with thin margins, the actual profit was far less.

This kid was tossing out insane money…

The waiter’s voice trembled. He bowed low, terrified of offending this golden patron:

“Little brother… I mean, big brother, that’s too much. Our store can’t accept it.”

“Is one million a lot?” Zhao asked sincerely, making everyone even more flustered. After a long pause, the waiter explained awkwardly:

“Big brother… put it this way: with a bit more, you could buy this whole store.”

“Then I’ll add a bit more. Five million.”

Five…

The crowd erupted.

Most Saizeriya customers were ordinary college kids. Many might work their whole lives without saving five million yuan.

Yet here, that sum seemed worthless.

“Since it’s my first date with Yaoyao, I should give her a proper keepsake…” Zhao said earnestly. “How about I buy this store? I’ll rename it after you—as your gift. What do you think?”

Yaoyao was speechless. Even in her wildest dreams, she hadn’t expected this seemingly naive guy to be so loaded.

Greed and glee flooded her. She pressed herself against Zhao, squeaking in that fake-cute voice:

“Xiao Zhao… you’re too good to me! What a dream boyfriend…”

Now, she shot Qiqi a look dripping with mockery, coldness, and nonchalance. Qiqi’s thick makeup couldn’t hide her flushed face. She grabbed Wang Jing’s arm, her voice urgent:

“What about you? He spent millions—what can you do?”

“I…” Wang Jing choked. His monthly allowance was generous, but not insane.

Dropping five million over dinner? Unthinkable.

For the first time, the prideful Wang Jing was utterly humbled. His face turned ashen. His girlfriend’s blame, Zhao’s calm smirk, and his own helpless frustration crushed him.

Zhao shrugged calmly. “If you’re not bidding anymore, I guess that’s it.”

Those harmless words stung Wang Jing’s ears. He clenched his fists, watching Zhao pull out his credit card and tap the waiter’s shoulder…

Then Zhao stumbled, nearly falling.

He steadied himself and spun around angrily. “Who was that?! Who just kicked me?!”

“I did.”

Cheng Yu rolled his eyes at Zhao, speaking in an overly dramatic, translated accent.

“Oh, dear Brother Zhao, for the class monitor’s sake—I swear next time you spend without thinking, I’ll kick your ass with your uncle’s rivet boots.”

“Cheng… Cheng Yu…?” Wang Jing froze.

He stared at his roommate, then at Zhao, a sly smile spreading.

“Who’d have thought a humble Saizeriya could gather two talents like you phoenixes in the same nest.”
