Chapter 32: Grant Me a Moment to Explain

No one expected Cheng Yu’s reaction to be so extreme.

One second he’d been chatting and laughing; the next, he stood frozen like a wet-behind-the-ears reporter, utterly speechless.

He stood at the doorway, not a trace of a smile on his face—every muscle locked rigid.

Cheng Yu’s pupils contracted sharply. He stared at the woman seated in the conference room, struggling to reconcile her icy expression with the maniacal grin from his memories.

Yet her features… they matched the face from his past exactly.

Cheng Yu could never forget this face—the face that had delivered his most terrifying death.

His brain starved for oxygen. Dizzy, he slumped to the floor.

His mind went blank. In his panic, he only heard a concerned voice asking:

“…Are you okay?”

Cheng Yu’s awareness slowly returned. He turned his head. Suzhan Yue gripped his arm, her expression earnest with worry.

“…I’m fine. Haha, just… the air in this room made me dizzy for a moment.”

Jiangyx Jiang also looked deeply concerned, but she visibly relaxed at his words.

“The room does smell stuffy… quite strong, actually. If you’re uncomfortable, wait outside.”

“No need.”

Cheng Yu hadn’t replied before the voice cut in.

Shenyufu’s tone was as cool as her demeanor, yet her actions were thoughtful. She walked to the window, pushed it open, and let fresh air flow in.

“If you feel unwell, some fresh air should help.

“The teacher called me about this earlier. Sit down—I’ll make tea.”

She was attentive, radiating reliability with no hint of danger.

*Calm down… Cheng Yu. You’ve been reborn for two months now. You’ve had zero contact with her. She’s a stranger.*

*No matter what she did in other cycles… it doesn’t matter now.*

He silently urged himself to breathe. *She’s in Art Design. You’re in Law. Worlds apart. Just resolve Suzhan Yue’s issue, and you’ll never see her again.*

He nodded at Suzhan Yue and Jiangyx Jiang, signaling he was fine, then walked in first and sat down to prove it.

Seeing this, the two girls finally relaxed and followed him inside.

Over steaming cups of tea, they recounted the incident and their request under Shenyufu’s questioning.

Her questions were far more meticulous than others’, drawing out details that painted a complete picture.

Yet after hearing everything, Shenyufu took a slow sip of tea and shook her head gently.

“I’m sorry. I can’t give you an answer right now.”

“Ah… why?” Jiangyx Jiang’s shoulders slumped.

Shenyufu set down her cup, candid and calm:

“I won’t assume our students are at fault based solely on your side of the story. That would be just as wrong.

“I’ll investigate—speak to them, their classmates. I’ll make my own judgment, impartially. You have my word.

“As for you, Suzhan Yue… I’ll accompany you to your old dorm to collect your things. Stay with Jiangyx Jiang for now.

“If I find the conflict irreconcilable… I’ll arrange a permanent transfer to Jiangyx Jiang’s room.”

“I see…” Jiangyx Jiang nodded slightly. Though unresolved, the outcome satisfied her.

Suzhan Yue exhaled in relief. “Thank you, President Shenyufu! Having you help is such a relief!”

A rare, warm smile softened Shenyufu’s usually cold face—gentle, trustworthy.

But her words carried an unspoken message: *This matter ends here. Don’t waste more time on it.*

Cheng Yu’s emotional intelligence wasn’t low. A hundred rebirths had honed his instincts. He caught her meaning instantly.

“We won’t overstay,” he said, standing. “We’ll take our leave, President Shenyufu.”

“Wait.”

Shenyufu’s tone shifted abruptly. She stood and rummaged through a drawer.

“I think… I have medicine for dizziness here. Wait just a moment—I’ll find it for you.”

“That’s really not necessary—”

“It’s fine, classmate.”

She glanced back at Cheng Yu, smiling.

“Wait right here. I’ll be quick.”

“…”

A thread of alertness tightened in Cheng Yu’s chest.

Her kindness felt less like concern… and more like a warning.

Before he could dwell on it, options flashed before his eyes:

【Faced with Shenyufu’s request, your choice is:】

【Option A: Insist on leaving. Reward: One iPad Air 4】

【Option B: Stay. Reward: One random attribute point】

*Leaving is more dangerous?*

*Will I run into threats outside… or will refusing her anger her?*

Whichever it was, the choice made Cheng Yu inhale sharply. He turned to Suzhan Yue and Jiangyx Jiang.

“You two go ahead. I’ll take the medicine from President Shenyufu and rest.”

“Take care of yourself… I’ve troubled you so much these past days. Rest well.”

Suzhan Yue’s voice was tender. Cheng Yu nodded, watching them close the door behind them.

Silence swallowed the conference room.

“This… classmate?”

“Call me Cheng Yu, President Shenyufu.”

“No need for formalities. ‘Senior’ or my name is fine.” She kept searching while speaking, easing the tension. “Is your health poor? That’s why you get dizzy?”

“Maybe… I don’t exercise much.”

“No exercise? No night runs?”

“No… I rarely go out at night. Usually gaming in my dorm.”

“I see…”

Shenyufu found the medicine. She turned, box in hand, and walked calmly toward him. Cheng Yu instinctively reached out.

“…That’s strange.”

His wrist slammed onto the table. Before he could react, a butterfly knife whispered past his index finger—cold steel kissing his skin—embedding itself precisely between his index and middle fingers.

“Then why,” Shenyufu’s voice dropped to a razor’s edge, “did I see you running with Tiger Cub on the streets last night?

“Explain that to me, Cheng Yu.”
