“Boss Lin, Sister Shuang’s got something today. I’m covering for her.”
In Lin Ning’s office, a girl with neat short hair stood by her side.
A small badge hung on her chest. It read: Nan Surou.
“Oh? What happened to Shuang-jie?” Lin Ning looked at her, curious.
“I don’t know either. Seems like something at home~”
“Alright. Thanks for the hard work today~”
...
“Boss Lin, the materials for the ten o’clock meeting are here~”
“Boss Lin, reps from that state-owned company we’re partnering with just arrived~”
“Boss Lin, the interviews are done. Here’s the list…”
Nan Surou spun around all morning, barely getting a second to sit and breathe.
She hid in the pantry by the hot-water dispenser, drinking and catching her breath.
“I seriously don’t know how Shuang-jie does it. She still has time to game after work~”
“Hey, Xiao Rou~” Lin Ning passed the pantry, hugging a stack of files.
“Boss Lin, do you need something?”
“C’mon, lunch is on me~ It’s been a morning from hell.”
“Thank you, Boss Lin~”
Nan Surou looked at Lin Ning, flustered, not even sure where to put her hands.
“Right, make ten copies of these too. We need them for the afternoon meeting~”
She stared at the mountain of files in Lin Ning’s arms, then shuffled toward the copy room, struggling.
“Being a secretary is rough~”
...
Su Shui kept his usual routine: up early, breakfast ready, then waking his sister and his wife.
Only now their home had a new member. Every morning, he had to feed Mimi too.
Those two women loved playing with her, but they never remembered to feed her.
“Su Shui~”
Lin Ning opened her mouth, waiting for Su Shui to feed her.
Seeing that, Su Qing learned fast. She opened her little mouth.
“Ge~ me too, feed me~”
Su Shui held the spoon, looking at the two pretty faces in front of him.
“I…”
Chomp. He shoved the food into his own mouth instead.
“Alright, then you help me feed your Sister Ning~” Clever Su Shui, survival mode on.
Su Qing gripped the little spoon, face dark, feeding Lin Ning one bite at a time.
At the crack of dawn, already in a desperate struggle, Su Shui wiped cold sweat and sent Su Qing and Lin Ning off.
“Finally, I’m alone~”
He flopped onto the sofa, gently cuddling Mimi.
“Meow~”
Mimi curled up in Su Shui’s arms, purring in bliss.
“With them gone, I can… hehehe~”
He hopped off the sofa, snuck to draw the curtains, and turned off the lights.
“It’s been so long since I saw these films praising the people’s strong young ladies~”
He opened the little home safe, shoved bank cards, marriage certificate, divorce certificate, rings… a whole pile to the side, then carefully unlocked the hidden compartment at the bottom.
“These discs cost me a fortune to get! They don’t even burn them anymore~”
Holding those ‘historical relics,’ Su Shui picked his favorite.
“I feel like watching the Teacher one~”
He slid the disc into the player. The big screen slowly dropped.
When the screen filled with office-wear, black-stockinged teachers, Su Shui couldn’t help himself. He went whoosh, whoosh, pulling a stack of tissues from the box.
“Hehe, hehe~”
Just as the plot hit its peak, Su Shui was furiously working his wrist.
Creak.
The door opened.
“Su Shui, the file I left in the bedroom—”
Lin Ning rushed in, saw Su Shui naked on the sofa at a glance.
“Wife, I—” The moment he saw her, Su Shui snapped to attention, scared stiff.
“What are you—” Lin Ning glanced at the screen. “Sorry for interrupting. Bye!”
She sprinted into the bedroom, grabbed the file, and left.
“Wife, listen to me~” Su Shui yanked up his pants and chased after her.
“What’s there to explain?” Lin Ning thumped his shoulder with her small fist. “Pervert!”
“Wife, this is youthful nostalgia. Trust me! I’m watching with a critical eye! Just retracing my dumb younger days.”
“Then why do you take your pants off while reminiscing?” Lin Ning glared back. “Disgusting!”
“I…” Su Shui mumbled, dragging his feet.
“Enough!” Lin Ning shot him a look. “Clean the living room, scrub the sofa, and wait for me. We’ll talk when I get back!”
She slammed the door and left.
“What am I gonna do~”
Staring at the door, Su Shui’s face went ashen.
...
He rushed to put the living room back to normal and sprayed a ton of air freshener.
“How do I even save myself here~”
Imagining how his wife would punish him tonight, Su Shui shivered.
“I’d better play games to calm down~”
He turned on the computer. Still thinking about that unfinished ‘action blockbuster,’ his mouse drifted to Steam.
Seeing the list full of H-games, he couldn’t help browsing his old achievements.
“Nope!” Right as he started to lose control again, Su Shui hit the brakes.
“I’m here to relax with games!”
He opened his usual title, only to see his in-game wife was offline.
“That’s weird. She should be playing now~”
No one to play with meant no fun. He farmed mats for a bit, then shut the PC.
“Seriously, I’m so sleepy~”
He pulled the blanket over his head, ready for a nap.
Mimi hopped onto the bed and burrowed into his covers.
“Ahh, perfect. Let’s snooze, just the two of us~”
...
“Come on, Xiao Rou, let’s get food~”
With an arm around Nan Surou’s shoulders, Lin Ning tugged her toward the cafeteria.
“Boss Lin, I haven’t finished this yet…” Nan Surou adjusted her glasses, fingers clacking over the spreadsheet.
“It’s fine. People run on food~ Eating matters~”
Lin Ning half dragged, half pulled her outside, into a small restaurant.
“Gotta let you try this. It’s insanely good!”
Nan Surou eyed the hole-in-the-wall, puzzled why the big boss would come here.
“Auntie! The usual~”
Lin Ning waved at the lady boss with a smile, shouting loud.
“Got it~”
...
Soon, the dishes landed. Lin Ning held her bowl and ate with relish.
“Try it. It’s really good~”
“O-okay~”
Nan Surou picked up a tiny piece of meat and chewed.
“So good!”
“Right? My hubby took me here on our first date~”
“You’re married?” Nan Surou stared, surprised.
“Yeah, for years now. By the way, got a question~”
Lin Ning hesitated.
“What is it?”
“If you found your boyfriend watching that kind of video, what would you do?”
“I’d kill him!”
...
After eating, Lin Ning strolled back toward the company, arm-in-arm with Nan Surou.
They were chatting sweetly when they ran into Su Shui, lugging a big lunch box.
The moment Su Shui saw them, he dropped the box and sprinted at them like mad.
“Who the hell are you, punk!”
