update icon Updated at 2025/12/14 21:00:02

Early Saturday morning, dawn was just breaking.

Su Qing sat by Su Shui’s bed, watching her brother still snoring. Beaming, she was about to crawl under his blanket.

“What are you doing!”

Lin Ning burst in perfectly on cue. In the living room, the unruly Lin Feng was already trussed up with bandages.

“Tch.” Su Qing glared unhappily at Lin Ning, who still held gauze. She slowly climbed off the bed.

“Is Su Shui okay?” Lin Ning walked over, gazing at Su Shui fast asleep.

“He’s fine. But Brother just said I should care for him—and that you don’t know how to care for people~”

“Little brat, talking nonsense again~” Lin Ning smiled sweetly. Then, catching Su Qing off guard, she grabbed her hand and bound it with gauze.

“Seriously! You’re too bold, sister-in-law!”

“Who’re you calling that! Don’t call me sister-in-law!”

*Riiip!* Su Qing tore the gauze apart. They glared, neither backing down.

“Pfft~ Haha~” Lin Ning suddenly burst out laughing.

“What’s so funny?!”

“When was the last time we fought like this?”

“Who knows! We’ve never gotten along!”

When Su Shui was in elementary school:

“Su Shui, come out and play~” A cherubic little girl pounded the door.

The door opened. Su Shui held a two-year-old girl.

“Can’t. Mom and Dad said I must watch my sister!”

“Then let’s play at your house~”

Little Lin Ning and Su Shui played together. Little Su Qing was ignored.

No matter how she tugged his shirt, her ever-attentive brother just patted her head, shoved a toy at her, and went back to that annoying girl.

“I hate her!” Little Su Qing felt true hatred for the first time.

High school Su Shui:

“Su Shui, I’m back!” One day, his front door was kicked open.

“You idiot! Change your shoes!” Su Shui jumped up from gaming with Su Qing.

“Hurry! I’ll show you my new place!”

“You moved again? Slow down!”

Su Qing sat alone before the TV. The racing game screen froze on ‘YOU, WINNER!’

A giant victory sign glowed before her. Yet she felt she’d lost something. Her heart felt hollow.

“You two match so well~” Mom wiped her hands nearby.

“No, we don’t!” Su Qing yelled, running to her room.

“Lin Ning, I hate you!”

College Su Shui:

“Su Shui, let’s go! Ocean Park opens today!”

“But I promised Little Qing we’d go together!” Su Shui looked torn between them.

Su Qing screamed inside: *Of course choose your sister first! Why hesitate?*

“Seriously, let’s all go!”

Su Shui led two beauties—one tall, one small—to Ocean Park. Su Qing stayed gloomy all the way.

On the roller coaster, Lin Ning and Su Shui sat together. Su Qing sat behind.

In the underwater tunnel, they sat together again. Su Qing trailed after.

At the show, they sat side by side. Su Qing was stuck in another row.

All day, Su Qing exchanged fewer than ten words with Su Shui.

At dusk, Lin Ning parted ways with the siblings at the park gate.

“Let’s go home, Little Qing~” Su Shui gently took her hand.

Su Qing yanked it away, head down, striding fast.

Su Shui followed slowly, watching his sulking sister.

“Ouch!” Su Qing tripped on a curb, rubbing her ankle on the pavement.

“What happened!” Su Shui rushed over, helping her sit roadside.

“I don’t need you!” Su Qing puffed her cheeks, turning away.

“Sigh. I’m your brother. How can I ignore you?” He carefully removed her shoe, massaging her swollen ankle.

“Then go keep Lin Ning company!”

Su Qing yanked her leg back. Tears welled from the pain.

“Angry?” Su Shui kept massaging. “She’s not family. I can’t just ditch her.”

“Not family?” Su Qing’s heart lightened.

“Yes. You’re my sister. She’s an outsider—I must treat her well.”

“That’s better~” Su Qing finally smiled.

“Your foot needs washing. It’s stinging my eyes~” Su Shui fake-rubbed his eyes.

Su Qing scowled, kicking him down with her free foot.

As Su Shui stood, she quickly lifted her foot and sniffed it.

He caught her mid-sniff.

After resting, Su Qing struggled to rise.

“Alright, I’ll carry you~” Su Shui squatted, patting her calf.

“No way! You’re gross~” She grumbled but obediently climbed onto his back.

Su Shui stood, bouncing her lightly.

“Little Qing, have you gained weight again?”

“Shut up!”

Under the sunset, Su Shui carried Su Qing. Her sandals hung from his neck.

She rested her head on his back, soaking in her brother’s warmth.

At the wedding:

Su Qing stood beside Su Shui in a pure white bridesmaid dress.

Su Shui paced nervously in his crisp suit.

“Bro! Stop pacing—it’s annoying!” Su Qing snapped.

“I can’t help it. I’m so nervous!”

“Nervous? She’ll marry you even if you stand silent!”

“But…”

Watching her cowardly brother, Su Qing’s anger flared.

“You’re the star today. Don’t embarrass me!”

Stony-faced, she left him alone in the room.

Tears streamed down her cheeks the moment she stepped out. In an empty room, she burst into sobs.

At the ceremony, red-eyed Su Qing followed Lin Ning, clutching her long dress hem.

Seeing Su Shui’s happy smile on stage, she smiled too—tears glistening at her eyes’ corners.

“Smiling like a fool…”

As Lin Ning and Su Qing glared by the bed, Su Shui woke perfectly on cue.

“Ladies, good morning~”

“Good morning?!” Lin Ning shoved Su Qing aside, squeezing onto the bedhead.

Su Qing regretted being slow—she wasn’t first before her brother.

“You idiot! No more reckless stunts!” Lin Ning scolded.

“No way! I’m not done with those thugs! They broke the code—ambushing from behind! I wouldn’t be here otherwise!”

“What can you do? That alley had no cameras!” Su Qing stood hands on hips.

“Hehe. Luckily, I recorded everything!”

Su Shui grinned slyly, pulling out his phone.

It held the full clip: thugs attacking Lin Feng. Su Qing snatched it.

“Let’s go!”
