Lin Luo stood in a corner of the camp, watching the Holy Maiden class monitor, Han Lianfei, and several other girls chatting and laughing by the bonfire.
Lin Luo felt a flicker of puzzlement. Lin Yuxun’s eyes had always hinted she wasn’t an ordinary girl—her awakening made sense. But why had Jiang Xiang awakened too?
For common folk in the Star Island Sea, awakening demanded talent, grueling training, luck, and unshakable belief. Yet within a single day, two out of thirty-plus classmates had awakened. This couldn’t be mere coincidence.
What caused it? Lin Luo had no clue.
A commotion erupted outside the camp—boys cheering, girls shrieking with excitement.
Jiang Xiang was back.
Lin Luo’s gaze drifted to the camp entrance.
Jiang Xiang and seven other boys returned not just with huge buckets of water, but a deer. Starving classmates eyed the furry beast—it looked plump and tender.
"Hey, beauties! Check this out!" Jiang Xiang boomed, hoisting the deer single-handedly off the pole two boys carried. "I took this down myself!"
"Wow—" Girls squealed, awestruck by his strength and the thrill of the hunt.
"Bro Jiang, you’re awesome!" the boys yelled.
"Hmph." Jiang Xiang shot Lin Luo a cold glance.
One parched, scrawny boy found a half-gourd ladle and tried to scoop water. Zhang Da shoved him down. "What’re you doing? Who said you could drink?"
"Huh? Why not? I’m so thirsty…" The weak boy froze, voice barely a whisper.
"Want water? Ask Bro Jiang first," Zhang Da sneered, lips curled.
The cheers died instantly.
Jiang Xiang, axe strapped to his back, loomed like a savage giant. He ordered the boys to drop the water and deer, then stepped forward. Waving his big hands to push the crowd back, he frowned.
"Back off! Everyone listen: I hunted this deer alone. I risked my neck escorting them for this water."
He puffed out his chest, glared down at the group, and jabbed a thumb at himself. "How we split it? My call!"
