Chapter 32: White Plume's Folly
update icon Updated at 2025/12/31 7:00:02

"Ahhh! No! No—"

Human screams and Zombie howls echoed. Blood and severed limbs painted the residential compound crimson.

The shrieking came from a man who’d fled far ahead. Two Crawlers hoisted him mid-air—one clutched his neck, the other his groin. Like snapping a sweet potato, they ripped him in half at his loudest scream! Guts and blood gushed across the ground.

The Zombies’ feast had begun. The entire compound sank into a crimson hell.

Yet in this lethal chaos, a man and woman stepped calmly from their modified vehicle. They faced the endless Zombie horde head-on.

"Call me if you’re overwhelmed. Slicing these ordinary Zombies won’t stress me."

"Mhm, as expected of my wife. So reliable."

"What did you just blurt out?!"

"I said ‘Bai Ling’! Why so jumpy? Too much chest fogging your brain?"

"You what?! What’s chest size got to do with it?!"

Duan Heng and Bai Ling, fresh off the vehicle, still bickered. During this idle chat, nearby Zombies noticed them. Bloodthirsty gazes locked onto her—slender yet curvy frame, form-fitting nanosuit, elegant Little White boots.

Such a vision—most men would feel heat surge, blood pounding. A true man-killer.

But Zombies’ minds were pure: only flesh mattered. To them, Bai Ling was just tasty-looking meat. Smelling her scent, they snarled, jaws gaping, and charged madly.

"Stay sharp!"

After that calm warning, Duan Heng dashed off. He’d lure the two Crawlers away, shielding Bai Ling from ambushes.

For Duan Heng, this fight wasn’t just for experience or System Coins. It was Bai Ling’s trial. In this perilous Apocalypse, surrounded by hordes, she must learn to survive alone.

Yet to his relief, facing hundreds of Zombies, Bai Ling showed not a trace of fear. Instead, she grinned excitedly.

Her pupils glowed red. A sinister, confident smile spread. With a flick of her wrist, the sharp blade snapped out, gleaming under the blazing sun!

Perhaps an illusion, but her hair seemed to whiten in the light. Like snowflakes, it blended with her outfit.

"Worry about yourself!"

Laughing back at Duan Heng, Bai Ling crouched low. She charged the Zombie horde! Swift as a white leopard, she slashed horizontally—two Zombies split cleanly at the waist!

Sssss—

Blood sprayed wildly, staining the ground and Tang dao’s edge crimson. An A-grade weapon! Flesh, organs, bones—all crumpled like paper before its alloy blade. Zombies fell in perfect halves!

But this was just the start. Two Zombies dropped; four lunged. Bai Ling seemed trapped!

Yet instantly, her pupils narrowed. She sidestepped and crouched—dodging all four attacks. One slash felled two more!

Splash—

Zombie bodies shattered. Blood speckled Bai Ling’s cheeks and coat.

Still crouching, before she could rise, a Zombie grabbed from behind.

But Bai Ling’s heel shot up! Her body straightened fast, legs forming a 180-degree line. A high kick smashed upward—obliterating the head of a hulking Zombie taller than her. It flew backward, dead.

Thud—

As it fell, Bai Ling spun without pause. Her blade severed the last Zombie’s head cleanly.

This sequence took under five seconds. Six Zombies lay dead. Ordinary Zombies stood no chance against her.

'Killed 6 Zombies, attributes increased by 3%'

'Combat Power: 24, Zombies killed: 134, Current Level: 5.'

'Killing more ordinary Zombies gives fewer boosts. One seemed like that muscular freak from last time. Barely added anything.'

'Damn it. To surpass Duan Heng, I must push harder!'

Thinking this, Bai Ling gritted her teeth slightly, a hint of resentment in her eyes.

More Zombies closed in. But predictably, Bai Ling slaughtered them—one slash per kill, effortless as chopping vegetables.

'Killed 4 Zombies, attributes increased by 2%'

'Killed 1 Zombie, attributes increased by 0.4%'

'Killed 9 Zombies, attributes increased by 4.1%'

'Combat Power: 26, Zombies killed: 244, Current Level: 6.'

Blade flashes shot out; her phantom figure darted. Wave after wave of Zombies fell. Bai Ling’s slaughter pace accelerated.

Blood streaked her coat; droplets trailed her fair cheeks. In moments, over a hundred Zombies lay dead. Severed limbs blanketed the ground. Yet Bai Ling’s smile turned darker. She let out a villainous cry:

"Come! Die! I’ll slaughter you all! Hahaha—"

Her pathological laughter echoed. Far off, Duan Heng—also fighting—wore a helpless expression. 'Why’s Bai Ling so chuunibyo this life…'

Of course, it was just a passing thought. Truthfully, this Bai Ling felt even cuter. After all, the more confident she was, the sweeter her conquest would be~

Ten minutes later, few Zombies remained. Off-screen, Duan Heng’s side showed the two Crawlers already dead—their upper bodies blown apart, fate unknown.

Seeing the battle end, Bai Ling licked her lips, unsatisfied. Her sinister aura deepened into madness.

But just as she raised her hand to finish the last Zombies…

A black blob shot at her! Too sudden to dodge—it struck her chest dead-on!

Bang—

"Cough… cough…"

'What was that?!'

On impact, Bai Ling thought she’d died…

But the blob caused no harm. It burst like a smoke bomb, shrouding her in black powder. The stench choked her into coughing fits.

"Cough… who the hell… cough… threw a flour bomb?!"

Trapped in the fog, Bai Ling waved her arms wildly. The thick smoke wouldn’t clear. Soon, she sensed wrongness—her strength faded fast. Each breath blurred her vision!

This fog weakened her!

Too late. By the time she realized, her body collapsed.

Then—a blood-red whip lashed from afar. Twenty meters long! Clearly, a bright red tongue!

It coiled thrice around Bai Ling’s ankle. Yanking her away.

'What?! This can’t be real!'

Bai Ling’s eyes widened in terror. She grabbed for a tree trunk—but paralysis froze her. Dragged at 1m/s by the Zombie’s tongue!

'Duan Heng, you bastard! An elite monster?! And tentacle-type?!'

'No—'
