&Long: Are you serious? How do you know?

&Miao Lulu: Heh, of course I know!

As Tang Youyou read the messages on her phone, a sinister gleam flickered in her eyes.

Then, she forwarded the photo Duan Heng had sent her to Long Ge. Her fingers flew across the screen as she typed:

&Miao Lulu: See? This Duan Heng is a total pervert! He already has a woman at home but still hit on me—I refused him.

&Miao Lulu: He bragged about having tons of food, saying he could support any number of women. He even asked me to be his second wife. Disgusting! That’s why I called you, Long Ge, to teach him a lesson!

&Long: It really is that woman from earlier today?!

On the other end of WeChat, a burly middle-aged man gripped his phone, his eyes bloodshot and fixed on the screen.

This was the same man Duan Heng had kicked earlier. Just recalling Duan Heng’s scornful glare and that ruthless kick filled Long Ge with burning humiliation. He longed to tear Duan Heng apart with his bare hands!

Now, staring at the photo—a modest shot of a woman’s back in bed, nothing explicit—the seductive curves alone screamed that she was a top-tier beauty.

«I noticed her earlier today. She’s so damn easy on the eyes… I’d love to slap that ass hard… Fuck!»

Rage surged through Long Ge. A dark, twisted thought flooded his mind.

«That damn brat dared to look down on me! I’ll slaughter him!»

«Yeah! It’s the Apocalypse now anyway. Cops are all dead. Who cares about anyone else?»

«I’ll bring a few guys, break in, and kill him!»

A cruel light glinted in Long Ge’s eyes. He’d joined the survivor group earlier just to kill Zombies and level up—he couldn’t care less about others.

Years of street violence had hardened him. Before the Apocalypse, laws had restrained his wildness. Now, greed had stripped him of reason, his smile growing ever more sinister.

«I was caught off guard earlier and got ambushed by that kick…»

«This time, I’ll end you! I’ve been slaughtering Zombies all afternoon. My strength crushes yours, you useless homebody!»

«I’ll humiliate your woman right in front of you! Make you beg for death but never find it! Hahahaha!»

&Miao Lulu: Long Ge, after teaching him a lesson, you’ll share some food with me, right~?

Still chuckling darkly, Long Ge saw the new message. He grinned, replying with a few taps:

&Long: Don’t worry. I won’t forget you.

«Soon, I’ll lock both of you up as my slaves. You’ll kneel and serve me! Hahahaha!»

The scene shifted to nighttime.

The city drowned in darkness. Only Zombie shadows drifted through the streets. The eerie silence chilled the bones—even warm beds offered no comfort.

In this gloom, Bai Ling lay tucked tightly under blankets like a dumpling. She gazed innocently at Duan Heng by the bed, patting the mattress and blinking.

“What are you doing? Get in bed already!”

“?”

Duan Heng stared at the woman curled up under the covers, urging him to join her. A question mark slowly formed over his head.

«Yesterday she resisted so much. Why’s she so eager today?»

«But she still won’t let me touch her. What’s her game…»

His eyes grew resentful, his expression utterly hopeless. That constant teasing—so close yet untouchable—was pure torture.

«Bai Ling, clinging to dignity is one thing. But why no guard at all?»

«Do you know how hard this is for me—Bai Ling! You’re killing me!»

“Never mind. I can’t sleep. I’ll get some air.”

After hesitating, Duan Heng turned toward the door, deciding to cool off on the rooftop.

Bai Ling panicked instantly. She called out anxiously from bed:

“Huh? Then I’ll be all alone! It’s dangerous out there now—don’t go!”

“Who said I’m leaving?”

Hearing her pitiful plea, Duan Heng sighed and turned back.

“I’m just going to the roof for fresh air. Sleep first. I’ll be back soon.”

“Mmph…”

Rejected again, Bai Ling made a tiny sound. Her pink lips pressed together as she pouted, looking both angry and hurt.

That single glance made Duan Heng’s heart skip a beat. A sharp ache shot through his chest.

An urge to tease Bai Ling surged within him. He spun away, tossing over his shoulder before rushing out:

“I said I’ll be back soon! I’m leaving!”

BANG—

The door slammed shut behind him, leaving Bai Ling shivering alone in the dark. «So dark… so scary…»

“God, that was terrifying…”

Duan Heng muttered the moment he stepped out, still shaken by how close he’d come to losing control.

«Why is this life’s Bai Ling so much cuter than last life’s? This isn’t fair—how am I supposed to survive?»

In his past life, Bai Ling had been a valiant, decisive Zombie slayer. Time and again, she’d turned the tide in crises, fighting enemies to the death to save them both.

But this life, Duan Heng’s actions and strength had altered everything. They’d prematurely activated Bai Ling’s ‘Perfect Body’ passive attribute, making her seem increasingly delicate.

Remembering their shared struggles from before, then seeing this fragile, whimpering woman now…

Duan Heng felt his head might explode. Who knew how long it’d take to win her over?

«Just kill me with one stroke! Heaven, help me!»

Beneath the night sky, Duan Heng’s mind churned like stormy seas.

To vent his pent-up stress, he grabbed his sniper rifle. Hunting a few Zombies before bed might calm him…

But.

As he reached the villa’s rooftop balcony, his pupils contracted slightly. His gaze snapped to the distant courtyard below.

An invisible, repulsive aura crept closer. Duan Heng’s eyes turned icy in an instant.

«More rats?»

Silently, he mounted the sniper rifle on the balcony railing.

This wasn’t luck—he had a powerful enemy detection skill.

In his past life, Duan Heng had leveled up to ninety-plus. The Esper abilities and system functions he’d gained far exceeded what he’d told Bai Ling.

Though his current base stats matched only a level 30+ Esper, layered skills and past combat experience meant even a Lord-class Zombie might not take him down.

‘Danger Awareness’: If any creature within a five-hundred-meter radius harbors hostility or killing intent toward the host, the host senses their general direction.

This Esper ability had warned Duan Heng of danger both last night and tonight.

“So it’s you…”

Through the scope, Duan Heng spotted Long Ge sneaking toward the villa, trailed by four or five lackeys.

Most killing intent came from Long Ge. The lackeys radiated little malice—their presence barely registered, likely just tagging along for fun.

Still, Duan Heng’s gaze stayed utterly emotionless, glacial. He silently aimed the scope at one man, a sinister smirk curling his lips as he muttered:

“No matter why you came for me…”

“Dare to approach my territory at midnight? Then all of you die.”
