Chapter 23: How Dare You Still Betray He

Chuyun nearly had a heart attack from the scare. He’d thought his sister would be in her own room, but she’d been lying in wait at the entrance instead.

Though her little face looked calm, Chuyun knew the calmer she seemed, the fiercer her coming outburst would be. Just as he was about to explain, her clear, sweet voice cut him off.

Xia Shiqi glared at him with wide eyes, then huffed adorably. “Hmph! If this happens again, I’ll never talk to you. Go cook for me now—I’m starving!”

“...”

Huh? That’s it?

Chuyun was confused. He’d expected a huge effort to calm his sister down, but this big crisis had just vanished so easily.

Could Xiaoqi finally be growing up?

Well, no use overthinking it. Better cook for Xiaoqi first; otherwise, if she got angry again, he’d be in trouble.

After closing the front door and entering the living room, Chuyun saw his sister half-lying on the sofa, playing with her phone. Due to her reclined position, her black pleated skirt barely covered her hips, exposing her thighs. All he could see was white—very white, so white it was hard to look away.

But Chuyun was long used to his sister’s lazy demeanor at home, so this revealing scene didn’t faze him.

In truth, Chuyun sometimes couldn’t understand his sister. At home and outside, she was like two completely different people.

Outside, she was dignified, polite, gentle, and pure—a girl everyone admired from afar but dared not approach, immensely popular.

At home, she was full of little quirks and flaws, with a short temper like a little witch, extremely lazy. Sometimes she even wandered out in just an oversized T-shirt she’d found somewhere.

These two extremes made Chuyun wonder if he had two sisters.

Xia Shiqi’s pure face flushed with shyness under Chuyun’s gaze. Embarrassed, she stomped her soft, white little feet on the plush sofa and scolded him cutely. “Go cook already!”

“I!”

“Am!”

“Starving!”

“To!”

“Death!”

“...”

“Xiaoqi, what do you want for dinner?”

“Anything’s fine! Just go cook… go cook already.”

Chuyun looked at his sister, who was throwing another little tantrum, utterly baffled. He sighed and headed to the kitchen.

“Hmph!”

After Chuyun walked away, Xia Shiqi huffed cutely and turned her attention back to her phone, tapping the screen.

The phone screen showed a chat window.

Shu Xiaoyue: Xiaoqi, is your brother back?

Xia Shiqi: Yeah, he’s back.

Shu Xiaoyue: Did you not argue with him?

Xia Shiqi: No, I remembered what you said, Xiao Yue. I just couldn’t help scolding him a bit when he came back.

Shu Xiaoyue: It’s fine. As long as you didn’t fight, it shouldn’t affect our plan.

Xia Shiqi: Yeah. Hey, Xiao Yue, why don’t you come over this weekend? I feel like I still can’t do it alone.

Shu Xiaoyue: Eh, if I come, I’ll be the third wheel!

Xia Shiqi: It’s okay! As long as it’s you, Xiao Yue, it’s fine.

Shu Xiaoyue: Alright then, I’ll swallow my pride and come over this weekend. I’ll be your wingman, Xiaoqi.

Xia Shiqi: Okay, Xiao Yue, I’m going to eat now. Chat later!

Shu Xiaoyue: Mhm, later.

Poor Xia Shiqi didn’t know the saying “Beware of fire, theft, and your best friend.” She was destined to taste the consequences herself.

After ending the chat with her bestie, Xia Shiqi walked barefoot on her tender white feet toward the dining room.

Just as Chuyun placed the last dish on the table, he saw his sister walk in. Smiling gently, he approached her and pointed to the aromatic, colorful dishes. “Xiaoqi, I made your favorite dishes today. Try them and see if they’re to your taste.”

“Hmph! If they’re not good, you’re dead.”

In truth, Xia Shiqi had already smelled her favorite dishes when she walked in. Though happy, her tsundere self wouldn’t show it; instead, she masked her joy by being sharp-tongued to Chuyun.

Just as Xia Shiqi was about to walk over to her favorite dishes, her sensitive little nose caught a whiff of feminine fragrance on Chuyun as she passed him. Instantly, her face darkened.

Xia Shiqi, like a kitten trying to be fierce, clenched her tiny pink fists, her face stern as she scolded Chuyun cutely. “Chuyun!? Why do you smell like a woman? Is it that shameless woman?!”

“...”

Chuyun was dumbfounded. Where did he get a woman’s scent? Wait—he realized. It must be from carrying Sister Wan’er; after all, he’d carried her for so long, it was normal to pick up her scent.

Danger—big, bold danger. Chuyun felt a major crisis descending.

But how could Xiaoqi smell it? He’d been cooking in the kitchen for almost half an hour—how could she still detect it? Was she part dog?

What to say? Chuyun was like an ant on a hot pan, at a loss.

“Ding! A side quest has been triggered.”

“Quest Name: Angry Sister.”

“Quest Content: Calm down your sister and satisfy her.”

“Reward: Two points, one charm point.”

The system’s voice suddenly echoed in Chuyun’s mind. For the first time, he found it incredibly comforting—like a lifeline in the snow.

Without this quest, Chuyun truly wouldn’t know what to do. Now, with a clear goal, it was much simpler.

So now, as long as he calmed Xiaoqi and met her demands, he could resolve this crisis, right?

While Chuyun was still pondering how to resolve the crisis, Xia Shiqi saw his dazed expression. Furious, she immediately attacked his chest with her tiny pink fists, hammering away while scolding cutely. “Idiot! Pervert! You act like a horny teddy bear around that woman!”

Brought back to his senses by the “massage” of her little fists, Chuyun quickly grabbed his sister’s slender wrist and explained. “Xiaoqi, I really didn’t do anything with Sister Wan’er. She just sprained her ankle, so I carried her home.”

It was better when Chuyun didn’t mention Lin Waner. The moment he did, Xia Shiqi’s pure eyes blazed with fury as she glared at him.

“You even carried her home?!”
