Just as Bai Yuxuan was at a loss over Ouyang Qianxue’s unexpected move, a flash of gold swept across his vision.
“Huh?”
Ouyang Qianxue collapsed heavily onto the Go board.
“This…!” Everyone on site, including the host, froze in shock.
“How could this happen? Contestant Ouyang actually fainted!” At the host’s exclamation, students and staff immediately panicked.
“What should we do? Call an ambulance?”
“Or find a car to take her to the hospital? That’s safer.”
“Classmate Ouyang!”
“Qianxue!”
The Go Club president and Qian Wang anxiously watched unconscious Ouyang Qianxue on the podium. They desperately wanted to rush to her side, but the chaotic crowd slowed them no matter how hard they pushed.
Bai Yuxuan snapped out of his daze and glanced at her. Seasoned and unflappable, he stayed calm. He patted Ouyang Qianxue gently, then whispered her name in her ear. Getting no response, he quickly checked her airway was clear and unbuttoned her collar for better breathing.
“Still, this girl really has no curves,” he thought, glancing at her flat chest. He silently pitied her for a second.
“Never mind that. Saving her comes first—I started this match anyway.” He placed her on his lap, lifted her legs slightly, and tilted her head back to improve blood flow. Her complexion soon improved.
“You really love causing trouble. Fine, one extra service for you.” He slid one hand under her lower back, lifted her legs with the other, and dashed toward the infirmary.
“Look over there!” students below exclaimed.
“A princess carry!”
“Bai Yuxuan saving her like a hero is so cool! Just like a fairy-tale prince!”
“I’m so jealous! Why wasn’t it me who fainted~” The girls stared enviously.
“Damn it, why does Bai Yuxuan get all the luck?” The boys glared with envy.
Cherry Blossom Academy students, though jealous, sensibly parted the crowd as he passed.
Bai Yuxuan reached the infirmary door quickly. (She’s lighter than she looks,) he thought, knocking.
“Is anyone there?” A health teacher rushed out. Bai Yuxuan carefully laid Ouyang Qianxue on the bed as instructed.
“This child has severe hypoglycemia and malnutrition. Long-term stress and exhaustion caused the fainting. Rest will help, but if it continues, her body won’t hold up,” the teacher explained after examining her.
“I see. I’ll make sure she takes care,” Bai Yuxuan replied, then fell silent.
(Hypoglycemia, malnutrition, stress, exhaustion… She’s endured all this? Yet I’ve never seen gloom on her face.)
“Qianxue!” A loud bang shattered his thoughts. Qian Wang and the Go Club president burst in.
“How is she?” Qian Wang asked urgently. Hearing the diagnosis, her face twisted with regret.
“Seriously, I told her to eat and rest, but she wouldn’t listen!”
Bai Yuxuan’s ears pricked up. “You’re saying this is from not eating?” Qian Wang froze, then quickly lied:
“Ah, she’s dieting to lose weight. I’ve scolded her many times.”
“I see.” Bai Yuxuan walked out.
(Hmph, terrible liar. Ouyang Qianxue doesn’t care about looks—she ignores fashion chats. She’d never starve for weight loss. Ouyang Qianxue… who are you? I’m getting interested.)
“Where am I…?” Ouyang Qianxue slowly opened her eyes in the infirmary.
“You’re awake! Feeling better?” Qian Wang asked anxiously from the bedside.
“Much better. How did I get here?”
“You fainted from low blood sugar and overwork—skipping meals again.”
“So the match result…”
“You forfeited. Bai Yuxuan won by default.”
“I lost after all,” Ouyang Qianxue murmured, gazing wistfully out the window.
“Seriously, why don’t you care for yourself!” Qian Wang thumped her chest lightly.
“I’m sorry for the trouble,” Ouyang Qianxue said guiltily.
“It’s fine. But you caused big trouble for someone—you must thank them properly.” Qian Wang’s anger softened into a sly smile.
“Who?”
“Bai Yuxuan.” Qian Wang grinned mischievously.
“Bai Yuxuan? Why thank him?” Unease crept into Ouyang Qianxue’s heart.
“He carried you here—in a princess carry.”
“What?!” Ouyang Qianxue froze solid.
“And in front of the whole school!” Qian Wang heard a faint shattering sound as Ouyang Qianxue buried herself under the blanket.
“Qianxue?”
“Don’t talk to me! I can’t face anyone… carried like that by a boy, in front of everyone… sob… I want to die.”
“Don’t! If you die, tell me what a princess carry feels like first!” Qian Wang tugged the blanket relentlessly, teasing her.
