Chapter 42: Unobstructed Clarity

Raven opened the wardrobe and found Xu Weiyu’s black nightgown.

She really had a lot of clothes—two full wardrobes, plus a third just for stockings, sashes, thigh rings, lace gloves, and such. Raven grabbed the black nightgown and a matching set of underwear.

He walked to the bathroom door and knocked lightly.

The door cracked open slightly. Raven passed the clothes inside. A small hand snatched them away, and the door slammed shut.

Back on the living room sofa, Raven stared at the glass case on the coffee table, draped in cloth. He lifted the cover. Inside, creatures were locked in brutal combat, the scene already grim.

Then Xu Weiyu’s muffled grumble came from the bathroom: “You pervert!”

“? Are you insane?”

“Why’d you give me *lingerie*?!”

“Wasn’t that stuff you bought yourself? What else would you wear it for?”

“I bought it to look at myself!”

“I can’t see you anyway. What difference does it make?”

“The nightgown’s sheer! You can see right through it! You just wanted to peek at my boobs!”

“Twenty seconds. Come out now, or I’ll spank you later.”

Raven gave up arguing. Xu Weiyu stomped her foot inside. “One minute!”

He fell silent, waiting patiently.

At one minute and seven seconds, the bathroom door opened. Xu Weiyu stepped out, arms crossed over her chest, flip-flops squelching wet prints across the floor. Her damp hair clung to her back.

Raven didn’t even glance at her.

“I’m drying my hair first!” She shot him a glare.

“…Hurry up.” Raven sighed. He really wasn’t cut out for dealing with girls these days. Such a hassle.

“Then you do it for me.”

Xu Weiyu carried the hairdryer to the sofa-side outlet, plugged it in, and plopped down. She held it out to him. Their eyes met. She blinked slowly—deliberately acting cute.

“Sit properly.”

She straightened instantly. Raven turned on the dryer. His movements were gentle; the heat never burned. After two or three minutes, her hair was nearly dry. He set the dryer down.

Xu Weiyu spun around and settled into the armchair opposite him. She crossed her legs, the nightgown pooling around her thighs. Shadows hid everything below her waist. Arms still crossed, she pressed her chest together, creating an even fuller curve—though nothing was actually visible.

Raven kept watching the glass case.

He really wasn’t looking!

He simply reached out, studying the dying creatures inside. Most were already dead. Xu Weiyu finally noticed and leaned closer to the case. “My Xiao Cai!”

“What’s Xiao Cai?”

“My snake… I spent ages perfecting it.”

Her beloved two-tailed snake now lay dead, killed by the oversized rat. The rat itself twitched violently—a cockroach’s serrated claw was embedded deep in its side, half torn off.

Raven snapped his fingers. Every creature turned to dust.

“You!!!” Xu Weiyu jabbed a finger at his nose.

“Their lifeforms had mutated. If you’d let them escape someday, chaos would follow.”

“Those were my research projects! I hadn’t finished studying them! I hadn’t given Xiao Cai legs or Xiao Hui wings! How could you?!” Her voice cracked with tears.

“You can recreate them later. You’ve mastered the technique. Here’s another research path: alter fish genes to let them fly, breathe air, survive without water. Turn egg-layers into live-bearers. Make mammals reproduce by fission.”

Xu Weiyu’s eyes widened. “Is that even possible?”

“Those are the hardest challenges. You’d need peak SS Rank power to attempt them. Your current strength isn’t enough—don’t overthink it. Just practice to hone your skills.” Raven’s tone stayed flat.

“Then why are you here? Don’t tell me you…” Xu Weiyu scooted her chair back a foot, arms clamped over her chest. “I’m warning you—don’t you dare come near me!”

Raven grew impatient.

*Why is this girl so annoying?*

“If I really wanted to sleep with you, I’d snap my fingers and you’d strip yourself bare, then grind against me willingly. Believe me?”

“Nope.”

“Want to test it?” A smirk played on Raven’s lips as his fingers poised to snap.

“No! No! Don’t!” Xu Weiyu shook her head frantically.

“Will you listen now?”

“No! One last question!” She held up a finger.

“Ask.”

“What’s your ability? How strong are you…? I’m curious.”

“The Alliance classified you as Triple S Rank! Do you really have that power?”

Raven shook his head. “I’m not Triple S Rank.”

Xu Weiyu exhaled in relief.

Only a handful of true Triple S Ranks existed in the world—beings who brushed against godhood. If they chose to destroy everything, no one could stop them.

Raven watched her relief and smiled silently.

“Just hint at one ability? I’m dying to know. I won’t tell anyone.” Her voice turned wheedling.

“When you pout, show your chest.” Raven teased.

“Piss off, you weeb freak.” Xu Weiyu scowled.

“…”

“…”

“Tell me~ It’s like a kitten scratching my heart. So itchy.” Her voice softened. She leaned forward slightly, revealing a hint of cleavage. Though still within decency, her indecently large breasts made it undeniably lewd.

“If you want to know, join my group.”

“You really have a group? Silver Lady works for you? What’s it called? Who else is in it? Are they strong? What do you do?”

“I shouldn’t have wasted words on you from the start.”

“Tell me!”

“Silver Lady serves me. Five members total. No official name yet—it’s barely an organization. Just us gathered together. As for duties… I decide everything.”

“Do you have some grand plan? Who are you? Who sent you? What’s your goal? What will you overthrow?”

Raven flicked her forehead. “Annoying much?”

“Just tell me one ability! You peeked at my chest earlier—you owe me!” She raised a tiny fist.

“…That counts as ‘peeking’?”

“Of course! Others would kill to see this.” Xu Weiyu huffed, her blush betraying her flustered calm.

“I’ll share one ability.”

“Really? Spit it out!”

“I can make any living tissue within ten meters explode. Severity depends on the target’s physical resilience.”

“That’s it?”

“That’s it.” Raven spread his hands.

“I know that already! Tell me another!” she muttered.

“What will you offer in return?” He smiled at her.

Xu Weiyu froze for seconds before realizing. She hugged her chest tighter. “Not happening. Gross.”

Raven just shook his head. “I don’t advise joining my group. What I’ll do next will bring chaos. Just obey me. I’ll teach you to control your power. In two and a half months, you’ll do one thing for me.”

“What thing?”

“Turn a flower back into a person.”

“How’s that possible?!”

“It is. That flower was once human. When she transforms, you’ll simply reverse it. Train for one more month, master your ability, and you’ll manage it.”

“But I have no test subjects! I don’t even understand human anatomy.” Xu Weiyu’s gaze locked onto Raven’s masked face, her voice trembling.

What if he demanded human experiments? What if he threatened her life? Danger prickled her skin. But Raven only watched her gently, extending his hand.

“Use me.”

“You?”

“Mm. I’ll suppress all defensive energy. Experiment on me freely.”

“What if… I mess you up?”

“If you succeed, you’re strong enough to matter.”

“Who are you calling weak?! Give me your hand!” She grabbed it.

Eyes shut, she channeled energy to scan his entire body. She’d realized: when using her power, she could see a person’s full form—including their face.

Xu Weiyu focused hard on his face… but her perception blurred at the crucial moment.

“I told you to study lifeforms, not stare at my face. Do that again, and I’ll hang you upside down.”

“Fine, fine. So secretive.” She stuck out her tongue.

Raven ignored her, sitting quietly.

Xu Weiyu hesitated. “I’m directing energy toward your head now… to scan your brain. Hey—if I slip up, you might die.”

“You can try to kill me now. I won’t be angry.”

“Seriously?”

“Seriously.”

“I’m not joking… I can’t control myself!”

“It’s fine. Try freely.”

“Are you sure?”

“Certain.”

Xu Weiyu carefully probed his brain with energy. But a stray pulse surged—chaotic, uncontrolled—and brushed against something vital.

A dull explosion echoed.

Before Xu Weiyu’s eyes, Raven’s masked head burst like a watermelon.

The eyeball, still trailing nerves, landed on her soggy white breast.

This time, she’d gotten a thorough look.
