A gentle breeze from the window brushed slightly against the exquisitely beautiful face. A trace of helplessness flickered there but vanished quickly—after all, the news was mere speculation.
She shifted her body gently, letting the bright moon reflect in her pale blue pupils. She murmured to herself with a teasing tone.
"Signs of the Demon Race reviving? Impossible. Last time, they were completely wiped out. This shouldn’t happen, especially in Jeremi’s territory. Probably just faulty intel."
Kevin lightly shook her slender arm, not taking the matter to heart. Her stunning face instead showed ease and joy. Her fair, alluring legs swung back and forth in the air.
After all, with Jeremi’s hatred for the Demon Race, he’d deal with it immediately if it happened. Though she hadn’t seen him since the Demon King’s defeat.
Come to think of it, it had been about thirty years. Everyone had become rulers of their nations, too busy to meet. Except her—she’d delegated her powers long ago.
Thankfully, the rulers of our nations knew each other well, old comrades-in-arms. That’s why the world, without a common enemy, hadn’t erupted into war.
But how long would this last? Kevin couldn’t help but sigh.
Who would’ve thought that after defeating the Demon Race, instead of long-awaited peace, nations would clash against each other.
"Such a hassle. Better not think about it."
Kevin muttered to herself, then stripped off her clothes and sat quietly on the soft bed. She gently stroked her silver hair, which emitted a faint fragrance. Some strands spilled onto the white sheets. Resignation crossed her face as she whispered.
"My hair’s getting long. But I’ll keep it for now."
Under the moonlight, her exposed skin was flawless. Kevin wore only thin undergarments, highlighting her perfect figure.
If not for the lack of suitable clothes, she wouldn’t wear anything. But for now, only women’s clothing fit Kevin.
Suddenly, a knock on the door startled Kevin, who was about to sleep. A trace of emotionless smile appeared on her beautiful face. She grabbed a cloak from the corner to cover herself, avoiding unnecessary trouble.
After all, she hated trouble.
Hearing footsteps on the floor, Kevin, barefoot and icy-faced, crept slowly toward the vibrating door. Her fists clenched tightly, ready to punch.
"Who is it?"
The door swung open heavily, revealing the burly innkeeper holding a steaming bowl of noodles, generously topped with meat. She asked without prompting.
"What’s this?"
Kevin’s tone was inquisitive. She was wary of sudden kindness, having been burned before.
"Don’t worry, girl. I’m not that generous. Your little boyfriend sent this. He seemed to know you were still awake."
"Huh? Really? Where is he?"
Kevin calmed down slightly, leaning against the doorframe. She added as if remembering something.
"Innkeeper, by the way, I’m a man. Remember that."
"Mhm, mhm, I understand."
The innkeeper nodded vaguely, not taking her words seriously. She added slowly.
"Miss, your boyfriend is downstairs. Looks like he just came back from shopping."
From the innkeeper’s words, Kevin pieced it together. Lorin must have stayed out late, seen her light on, and heard voices.
"Got it. I’ll go find him."
Lorin’s antics had banished Kevin’s sleepiness. The fragrant food made her ravenous. Since he was so energetic, he wouldn’t mind her siphoning a bit more magic.
In the empty hall, only the clatter of chopsticks on bowls echoed. The once noisy hall now held just two people, the atmosphere heavy.
"Lorin, staying up late. Do you have too much magic to spare?"
Kevin felt her residual magic draining with time. She couldn’t generate magic herself, relying on external sources, leading to a deficit.
She’d planned to take some from Lorin tomorrow, but seeing his state, it wasn’t needed.
A chilling smile spread across her beautiful face. She stared at Lorin with her pale blue eyes, her voice soft.
"So energetic? Want to come to my room to see something fun?"
"Miss Kevin, maybe not."
Lorin laughed awkwardly, trying to ease the tension. He feared another siphoning might cost him his life.
"Fine, then."
Kevin didn’t insist. There was no need for magic now. She found him decent, though annoying sometimes.
Kevin idly fiddled with the empty bowl and chopsticks. Casually, she spoke as if it were trivial.
"After the Spirit Heroes Festival, I’ll leave. I have matters to attend to."
"I’m grateful for the opportunity, Miss Kevin. It’s an honor."
"Nothing much. I promised you. Besides, I wanted to wander around a bit."
Kevin waved dismissively at the polite Lorin. She decided to handle local affairs in the coming days. Her family was now fully under her control.
The system’s last quest was securing a spot at the Imperial Academy. Easy for her, but her special status required personal handling.
"I’ll spend a little time tidying up my parents’ place in this world. Who knows when I’ll return next."
