Chapter 18: The Privilege
update icon Updated at 2025/12/24 17:00:02

Senior Bailin is the president of the Student Council. Her busy schedule keeps her shuttling between three departments all day. She rarely gets a moment's rest.

Lunch break? Senior Bailin doesn't believe in such things.

Every day, she's the first to arrive and last to leave at Qianning High School. Even the Life Department patrol officers, who check locked doors and windows, can't match her dedication.

Many urged her to hire a secretary for trivial tasks. She'd just say she'd consider it—then nothing ever came of it.

Everyone knows studying matters more than work for students.

But Senior Bailin juggling all Student Council duties? Attending classes? That doesn't happen.

Since she became president, a saying spread at Qianning High School. It sounds like a joke but rings utterly true: "Self-study to rank first in every subject school-wide, and you skip classes to enjoy life freely."

The source of that saying? None other than Senior Bailin herself.

As Student Council president, all privileges Bai Ling holds are permitted. Qianning High School isn't without perks. If you have the ability to match them, apply to the Student Council or school board—you'll get them.

These privileges are extensive. PE exemption with full marks. Evening self-study at home. Skipping ahead to challenge exams. Even early graduation. Such perks, requiring talent or wealth and influence, have long been Qianning's hidden feature.

Bai Ling knows these privileges well. She processes them daily, meeting such students. They're a mixed bag. Some are genuinely brilliant. Others? Hmph... Their arrogant, ridiculous antics? Bai Ling watches them like a show.

For someone as excellent and well-connected as Senior Bailin to have privileges? Perfectly normal. No sane person would question it.

Every school has its unspoken hierarchy. Students must find their place. Don't force into circles that reject you—you'll face universal exclusion. Imagine a failing student suddenly accusing Senior Bailin of skipping class. That student's school life would become... very colorful.

This isn't bullying. School is a microcosm of society. It has simple rules. Rule-breakers are disliked everywhere, barring rare exceptions.

"City in the Clouds, White Lotus on the High Peak." Bai Ling, bearer of these titles, was now openly skipping class.

Right inside the teacher's office.

Of course, that's just a joke. As Student Council president, Bai Ling doesn't need perfect grades. Even with terrible scores, her top-notch skills keep her position secure—no classes required.

Before her sweeping reforms, the presidency was just a golden ticket for rich heirs. That's why some on Qianning's school board seethe with fury at her.

Bai Ling's reforms cut deep into others' interests.

"Mr. Wen, here's last semester's final report. The Student Council verified it. Procedures for the three departing students went to the school board—they'll wrap up in two days. I'll deliver them then. I also prepared the military training essentials list... Mr. Wen, I hope it stays unchanged for future reviews, and..."

Opposite her, Mr. Wen Cunyuan listened intently. A lean, elderly man, he'd taught at Qianning High School over thirty years. He'd dedicated his life to education, nurturing countless students.

His style? "No major wins, but no mistakes." Bai Ling's aggressive, perfectionist drive was its complete opposite.

"Alright, alright, little Bailin. This mountain of files is too much for an old man like me."

Seeing Senior Bailin still talking, Mr. Wen pleaded repeatedly. This hardworking elder just wanted peace—not like these fiery youths.

His respected status and white hair earned him the role of head teacher for sophomores.

"...I'm truly sorry. I was too eager. With recent affairs so busy... I rushed things."

Senior Bailin's face was slightly pale. After Mr. Wen told her to slow down, her whole figure seemed to waver—as if drained of energy.

Mr. Wen quickly gestured for her to sit. "I've said it many times, little Bailin. Stop standing. I see how hard you work, yet you ignore your health. Keep pushing like this, and your body will break. Don't blame me for worrying—I care."

"No. Respecting teachers is basic etiquette. In the office, I can't sit casually—it violates my upbringing. Mr. Wen, I also need you to convey this year's budget to the school board..."

"Alright, alright! Sit down. Are you ignoring Mr. Wen now?"

"...Thank you, teacher."

The little old man was near his limit. Not daring to provoke him, Senior Bailin sat respectfully beside him. Her perfect ladylike posture made Wen Cunyuan sigh again.

Dignified. Elegant. Academically brilliant. Gentle yet firm. Bai Ling was unique in his teaching career. Most teachers admired Senior Bailin deeply—and ached for this young girl shouldering such heavy burdens.

As her homeroom teacher, Mr. Wen always worried about her health. He treated her like a granddaughter, forcing rest during free time. Of course, that meant Bai Ling worked overtime to clear delayed tasks.

"These files? I'll handle them and report to the school board soon. No delays!"

"Mm, thank you, teacher. As for the Student Council..."

"Ah, ah! Look at you. Sitting down and still talking Student Council. It's not your boyfriend. Even if it were, don't be so clingy."

"............"

Mr. Wen glared at Bai Ling's obvious fatigue and weakness. Today, he'd finally give this self-neglecting girl a proper lecture.
