Chapter 18: Almost Wet His Pants

When does everyone’s day begin?

For most people, it’s around six, seven, or eight in the morning.

If you’re a lazybones, maybe eleven or twelve at noon—or even one in the afternoon?

Anyway, it always starts in daylight. Except for those cultivating immortality.

Normally, a healthy person like me would start the day at six a.m. But tonight, I’d woken up unusually—to pee.

I had no idea what time it was. Pitch darkness outside the window confirmed it was still deep night.

My consciousness snapped awake for one reason only: my bladder was screaming.

*Shouldn’t have drunk that iced juice before bed.* Plus, I’d walked home wearing just a jacket—my stomach must’ve caught a chill.

But now, a critical problem loomed.

Beside me lay a creature of the little-sister species.

Her breathing was steady. She was asleep.

Back when Xinran and I shared a room, I slept on the top bunk. Every time I shifted, her even breaths would hitch. To avoid disturbing her, I’d trained myself to sleep like a statue—no movement, no snoring.

Point is: Xinran slept lightly. The slightest noise could wake her. Cat-alert. I had zero confidence I could lift her arm off me without rousing her.

*But I really need to pee…*

*What time is it? She should’ve left by now, right?*

*Does Xinran sneak into my room every night? Since when?*

*How did I never notice until now?!*

Sure, I slept like a log—but this was beyond clueless.

As if summoned by my thoughts, a soft whimper sounded. Xinran was waking up.

*Phew.* Good. She’d leave like yesterday.

I’d wait until she was gone, then head downstairs to the bathroom. To be safe, I’d hold it another ten minutes after she left.

My plan collapsed three seconds later.

A faint floral scent drifted close. I realized—it was probably Xinran’s lips.

*Yesterday she just hugged my arm. Today she’s going for a kiss?!*

Panic shot through me. I couldn’t fake sleep anymore! My body turned rigid as a board. I nearly jolted upright to push her away!

*Don’t move! Don’t even swallow!*

I had to stay frozen until she left.

Waking up now wouldn’t hurt me—it’d crush *her*.

"Bro… you’re awake, aren’t you?"

*Busted.*

No—maybe she was testing me. Stay calm. Don’t panic.

"Stop pretending. I can feel it. You’re awake."

*Surprised? Hah. Hah.*

No point faking it now.

I opened my eyes and turned. Xinran’s face hovered inches away. Her expression seemed neutral, but I caught a trace of tension.

After over a decade together, I’d mastered reading my aloof sister’s micro-expressions.

I propped myself up on one elbow, the other hand scratching my head.

*What now? Ask why she’s in my bed? Or why she tried to kiss me?*

*No—that’d just corner her. Ugh. No safe opening line.*

As I scrambled for words, a sharp urge hit my bladder.

*Right. The bathroom. Forgot about that… Awkward.*

Nature called. I’d relieve myself first, then have *the talk* with my sister.

I tried to slip out of bed—but Xinran grabbed my wrist.

"Where are you going?"

"Bathroom."

"Liar. You’re going to Mom to tattle."

"No, seriously—I just need the bathroom."

Okay, I *had* briefly considered telling Mom… but I’d crushed that thought. If Xinran felt exposed, she might run away.

Mom was the nuclear option—only for absolute emergencies. Using it now would blow everything up.

*Got it.* If she feared tattling, I’d use that leverage. It’d give me backbone for this conversation.

"Then I’m coming with you."

*What?* Our bathroom wasn’t gender-segregated, but that didn’t mean *shared* use!

"Wait here."

"No. I’m coming."

Convincing her would take too long. My bladder was about to explode. I surrendered.

"Fine. Whatever."

I jerked my arm free, bolted out the door, and sprinted to the second-floor bathroom. Didn’t even flick the light on before fumbling with my pants.

Just as I unzipped and pulled myself out—*click*.

The door shut.

I hadn’t closed it. Xinran must have.

"You’re not calling Mom, are you?"

*AAAAH!*

*She followed me in?!*

"Hey! Get out! Why are you in here?!"

"No. Hand over your phone first."

"I don’t *have* my phone!"

*Gotta go NOW or my bladder bursts!*

*Screw it—men turn around and it’s already a restroom!* I’d face away. She wouldn’t see anything.

I stood up from the toilet, turned, unbuttoned my fly—

…Nothing came out.

"Can you *stop staring*? I can’t go like this."

"Why not?"

*Why not?!*

Being watched was mortifying!

Xinran fell silent for a few seconds. Then—darkness. She’d turned off the light.

*Ah.* Right. No eyes on me in the dark.

*Ugh… Since when did peeing become this complicated?*

(Vanished)

Three minutes later… I sat slumped in a chair, my soul drained to lifeless gray.

*Ah… Something’s gone. My sense of decency, probably.*

*Ah… Something’s lowered. My standards, maybe.*

I hadn’t wet myself—but I’d lost my spirit…

My dignity as an older brother? Shattered to dust before it even formed.
