Chapter 9.3: The Corpse-Lover's Dark Obs
update icon Updated at 2025/12/12 17:30:02

The Necrophiliac Killer's Interest:

Boring.

This world is overflowing with boring people.

So many I want to kill them all...

This one, that one—all utterly shallow.

Why do they shamelessly cling to life? Dead, they’d be more valuable. At least they wouldn’t cause trouble or burden the world, right?

Besides... corpses are always better than the living. Heh heh heh...

But some people just don’t know when to stay away...

I’d barely stepped out of the car and into the school gates when a decent-looking guy trailed behind me. I knew what he wanted—I’d faced this countless times before.

"Classmate Jilianbing! I—I like you! Please go out with me!"

Why would this stranger confess? We’d never even spoken. Just because my looks suit his taste? Acting on pure instinct like an animal chasing a pretty mate—what’s the difference?

It’s not that I hate pursuing based on looks. But appearance isn’t the core of "love." At best, it’s a non-essential condition for mere "liking."

"Sorry... you’re not my type..."

After my gentle refusal, he slumped his head like his heart had died.

Scenes like this happened weekly.

So dull... Though his "shell" wasn’t bad. Dead, he’d make a decent footrest. But nowhere near worthy of my collection.

Only those with a special "scent" qualified.

I could smell everyone’s "scent."

Not a physical odor—a deeper, unique essence.

I can’t describe it clearly, but it reveals who’s abnormal. Who’s... "interesting."

Truly abnormal people were rare. The rest? Utterly boring.

But last semester changed everything.

I joined a special class. A fascinating class.

Every student radiated a distinct scent. Yes—Class 2-B itself was abnormal: a classroom full of freaks. Even homeroom teacher Teacher Xiaozhen was no exception.

Only Class 2-B was special.

I don’t know why this happened. But heh heh... it suits me perfectly!

The remaining half of high school will become my most precious memory... I can feel it.

After six months of observation and Maids’ investigations, I’ve uncovered most abnormalities. But I haven’t interfered yet. Some are too dangerous—even for me. Caution is key.

Entering class, a few greeted me. I politely replied. Another comfort here: most ignore me, treating me normally. Unlike my old class, where silence fell the moment I walked in.

Perhaps I’m nobody to them... heh heh heh...

At my seat in the back-left corner, my neighbor looked up.

"Morning, Lianbing."

"Good day, Lan Hua."

Lan Hua was one of the few whose abnormality I hadn’t pinned down. Yet I smelled her scent—she belonged here. An abnormal like the rest.

She was also one of the rare girls who spoke to me. Other girls openly hated me. Jealousy? Or... did they sense my own abnormality? Heh heh heh...

Lan Hua never recoiled. Maybe because her beauty matched mine—no insecurity. Or... she might want my seat.

I recently noticed: Lan Hua fixates on the guy in front of me.

"What’s wrong? Staring at the door—waiting for someone?"

"Huh? No way..."

She denied it, but her eyes kept darting to the entrance. I knew she waited for An Juncheng.

An Juncheng sat ahead of me. Utterly unremarkable.

He was the only one in class with no scent.

Everyone else had quirks, traits, abnormalities.

But An Juncheng had none.

Just an ordinary guy. Maybe a bit odd, but not abnormally so.

Unlike me, he’d shared a class with these freaks since freshman year.

How did he survive a whole year unscathed? Not even a trace of suspicion?

Was he incredibly lucky? Or incredibly dense?

His utter normalcy became his abnormality.

In this den of monsters, he stood out like a lamb among wolves. No wonder he was alone.

Still, my interest in him ended there.

Why would Lan Hua care about such a nobody? Poor taste?

Strangely, An Juncheng arrived later than me today. Odd—he was usually punctual.

Just as the bell neared, he appeared at the door.

"He’s here, Lan Hua."

"What? Ah!"

Her face lit up at the sight of him. The look of a love-struck girl? So transparent.

"You’re wrong, Lianbing! I wasn’t waiting for him!"

"Heh, I understand~"

I watched the door, curious how Lan Hua’s expression would shift as he approached...

But An Juncheng froze there, stunned. He scanned the room like he’d seen ghosts.

Only when Teacher Xiaozhen called his name—blocked by him—did he jolt awake and scramble inside. Like a lamb finally realizing the wolves around it could devour him whole. Terrified.

What? Did he discover everyone’s abnormal? It took me a semester to confirm that. How did he know overnight? Or... was he caught in some abnormality himself?

As I wondered, he walked closer. Three meters away... I smelled it.

His scent had changed.

An Juncheng was always ordinary. Unconnected to abnormalities. But today? A complete 180.

Like a green apple ripening red. A lamb growing into a sheep.

In short—he felt "mature."

What happened to him yesterday? What could cause such a drastic shift overnight?

Pfft!

"...Huh?"

A filthy sound snapped my attention back. I looked up at An Juncheng, now at his seat.

Our eyes met by chance.

I saw confusion. Shock. Doubt. And... fear.

Yes—fear. He was afraid of me?

Heh...

A smile spread across my face. Not forced. Natural. Genuine.

He froze for seconds at my smile, then hurried to his seat. He even pulled his chair forward—as if fleeing me...

And he only froze for seconds at my natural smile?

I take back my judgment of Lan Hua’s taste. She wasn’t blind at all. She saw it coming, didn’t she?

Heh heh heh...

Things are about to get interesting.
