Chapter 14: What Do You Truly Seek?

Several senior students entered, their curious gazes sweeping over the Divine Arts Department hall before quickly settling on us.

"Look, Angels!"

"I’d heard the Divine Arts Department had Angels from the Breath of the Sun Church, but I never thought I’d actually see them."

"So many wings—all high-tier, too."

Seriously? What’s there to gawk at? Are you all country bumpkins?

I cautiously peeked out to assess the situation. Sure enough, Liyue’s attention had also been drawn to us. A boy beside her was excitedly chattering while pointing rudely in our direction. Anan, displeased, stomped her foot and darted back into the crowd to resume her support duties.

"Hey, there’s another one back there. So cute!" My peeking had caught the elective students’ eyes too. *Cute my ass.*

Just then, Liyue and the boy approached us. They handed a form to Professor Falina—likely an elective application.

"Ah, you two Angel ladies are truly stunning. Hello! We’ll be classmates from now on. Please take care of me." While Professor Falina reviewed their forms, the boy actually struck up a conversation.

"Ah, yes. Hello, senior. I’m Mistflower," Mistflower replied politely.

"Pleased to meet you. And who’s this shy lady behind you? Won’t you step out so I can meet her too?" Hiding was no longer an option—I’d only raise Liyue’s suspicions. *It’s fine. I look completely different now. She won’t recognize me.*

I stepped forward, glaring up at the troublemaker. Honestly, he wasn’t bad-looking: short brown hair, a clean face with a hint of boyishness, and striking blue eyes that held the sky and a tranquil lake. He maintained a polite smile, but to me, he looked utterly punchable.

"I’m Imet. This is my childhood friend, Liyue. She’s really kind—you’ll love being friends with her." *Friends? I’d rather vanish forever than see her again. And you—Liyue’s childhood friend? Stay far away from me too.*

"Nice to meet you, Senior Imet." I kept my tone neutral, playing the role of an ordinary Angel passerby. Liyue glanced at me twice before losing interest. *Phew. Crisis averted.*

"Imet," Professor Falina cut in after scanning the form, "what exactly brings you here? Don’t tell me it’s just to chase girls? Your class—Ranger and Bard—doesn’t exactly need Divine Arts. Promising path, though."

"Well, I wanted to study religious history to broaden my creative horizons. And if I could learn some sacred hymns, that’d be a huge bonus." Imet gave a textbook-perfect answer.

"True. Bards thrive on broad experiences. Many come to our department for that." Professor Falina nodded, then suddenly leaned close to Imet’s face with a sly smile. "But, boy—I prefer honest students."

"Y-yes! I’m mostly here with Liyue. Though I *do* want to study religious history and hymns. And… the two Angel ladies are very lovely." *Idiot. If you knew Liyue and I used to be guys, you’d freak out.*

"And you, Liyue?" Professor Falina turned to her. "I’ve heard about you—the star student from the Knight and Warrior Departments. What brings *you* to Divine Arts? Is this part of the enrollment routine?"

"I’ve started interning with the Sun Knight Order. I’m here to train for my next class advancement: Holy Knight."

"Hmm. You’re already an exceptional Knight. This shouldn’t be difficult. I’ll arrange private tutoring with a top-tier Holy Knight instructor for you." *Typical. Straight to special treatment in public—like she forgot I just had my own private session.*

"Thank you, Professor Falina."

Sure enough, Professor Falina proceeded to ask every registering student—whether majoring or taking electives—their reasons for joining Divine Arts. A senior nearby took notes. I had no idea if this was tradition or policy.

When it was my turn, I drew a blank. Unlike everyone else with clear ambitions for the Imperial Kingdom Academy, I’d just been assigned here. Thankfully, Professor Falina had stopped pressing for details by then—just a simple answer would do.

"I’m here to learn Divine Arts." Probably the blandest reply of the day.

For context, Mistflower’s answer right before mine had been:

"I seek the power to exact my revenge."
