Why am I not dead?

Xueluo stared at the ceiling beam above her, lost in thought.

I should’ve been long gone by now.

She had no clue how she’d survived the whole night.

Watching sunlight slowly seep through the window, Xueluo blinked.

It must’ve been one hell of a fight.

Now, she couldn’t even recall what happened last night.

She didn’t know if she’d slept at all.

After a long daze, Xueluo weakly sat up from the sofa. But soon, she felt utterly dazed, like her mind was floating.

Holding that feeling for a while, she slowly shuffled forward.

Then she spotted a mirror right in front of her.

The moment she saw it, Xueluo froze.

She was clearly uneasy—she was wearing a black-and-white maid outfit.

Whether from the shock or something else, this unsettling dress made her instinctively tug down the white lace hem of her skirt, as if terrified someone might glimpse that so-called "absolute territory" zone. Beneath it, her fair thighs, framed by white thigh-high socks, looked slender yet petite.

"Hmm~"

Just then, Guya whispered softly in Xueluo’s mind.

"Indeed, no matter how you look at it, I’m the most beautiful."

"Hey, hey..."

Xueluo glanced around but found no clothes to change into. After muttering a few curses, she kept clutching the skirt hem and whispered, "So, what exactly happened last night?"

"You simply passed out," Guya replied leisurely, as if it were nothing to do with her. "In every sense. Then your sister treated you like a Barbie doll and played with you awhile. Well, once she got tired, she just went to sleep."

And left her dear brother on the sofa?

"No," Guya corrected. "She was too worn out. Could barely walk straight when she left."

...

Xueluo grumbled quietly, then took a step. She slowly reached the sofa, turned on the radio.

After static crackled, a voice came through:

"This morning, rescue teams entered the Greaves family estate. No survivors were found..."

All dead?

Xueluo sank onto the sofa and took a deep breath.

"Seems the Hymn Guild did this quietly," Guya murmured. "They purged the Greaves family to avoid attention."

"Ah, probably," Xueluo whispered, hand resting on her chin. "But... they clearly don’t want anyone knowing about Cain’s Key."

"Still," she added, "setting aside why you Vampires need it—what would humans do with it? Awaken Cain?"

"That’s beyond me," Guya said. "As a progenitor of the Blood Kin, I’d say the outcome’s obvious even if humans woke him."

"Hmm, likely."

Vampires and the Hymn Guild don’t concern me much.

But I still need that key.

Until I figure out how to break this idiotic contract, I might end up marrying that blond jerk.

Ugh, I really must get that key back...

Xueluo cursed under her breath, then roughly ruffled her hair.

But...

Doesn’t the Hymn Guild run a magic academy?

After pondering carefully, Xueluo took a breath and whispered, "I’ve decided, Guya."

"Hmm?"

Hearing Guya’s voice, Xueluo spoke firmly:

"Let’s enroll in the magic academy."

...

"What!?"
