Boom!
Seeing the attack coming straight at him, Useless pushed off the wall mid-air, easily dodging it.
But the wall behind him was pierced by the thin arrow wreathed in green mist. Corrosive smoke billowed from the hole.
The pungent stench proved the arrow’s terrifying power!
Just as Useless dodged, another shadow flashed beside him.
A crushing gust of wind slammed toward his face!
Crash!
He frowned slightly, tightened his grip on the girl in his arms, and raised his fist to block.
Their fists collided. The air froze for a split second—then a massive shockwave erupted.
The floor shattered below with muffled cracks. Broken furniture splintered instantly under the pressure, flung away by the blast. Dust filled the air!
“Who exactly are you?” Useless stepped back quickly, glaring at the pair before him.
Bai Ling in his arms had her eyes tightly shut—unconscious or something else.
“If you hand over the girl, I’ll tell you, big brother,” Shadow said. Four ghastly green arrows formed on her strange bow, tearing through the air.
Where they flew, the air corroded, wisps of white smoke rising.
The arrows, leaving afterimages, precisely targeted Useless’s weak points.
Useless snorted coldly and spun his body.
The arrows pierced his flapping sleeves but missed him easily.
Shadow didn’t falter. An eerie smile spread across her face.
The next instant, the dodged arrows reversed unnaturally—shooting straight for Useless’s back!
Their speed doubled, tripled.
The sudden chill of death made the black-clad butler’s expression grave.
Carrying Bai Ling slowed him. He saw the arrows—but dodging was impossible.
One scratch from that poison would be unimaginable!
No escape. No survival. Was it over?
Impossible.
“Hmph…”
Useless’s face darkened as he chuckled coldly.
To Shadow and Mo’s shock, the arrows halted mid-flight—as if hitting an invisible wall.
Then, perfectly synchronized, they clattered to the ground, shattering into dozens of pieces.
“Seems I’ll need special methods to get answers,” the butler murmured. He leaped back with Bai Ling—but froze mid-air.
Transparent threads, fine as spider silk, wrapped around his feet.
“What…?” Shadow frowned at the glistening threads.
Mo’s expression turned serious beside her.
After a breath, they locked eyes—then stared at Useless.
“Death God?!”
Their faces mirrored identical shock—and dread.
“Just an old title. I’m surprised anyone remembers,” Useless smiled elegantly, his gaze turning icy.
Killing intent, bone-chilling and sharp, flooded the room.
“Tsk. Rumors said you died long ago. But rumors are just rumors.” Shadow hesitated—then her bow dissolved into green light.
Not surrender. Against him, such weapons were useless.
“But someone as mighty as you… reduced to a lapdog?” Her tone stayed mocking, laced with scorn.
Useless shrugged. “My choices need no approval from the dead.”
“Oh? I admit your strength. But killing us? This won’t be enough. Not even close…”
She pulled down her hood, revealing a delicate face.
No fear there. Only… excitement!
Pure, trembling excitement. Her blood boiled.
“HAHAHAHA! Thrilling! Absolutely thrilling! HAHAHA!”
Mo beside her erupted into maniacal laughter too.
“Killing the legendary ‘Death God’ with my own hands? Just imagining it makes me shiver with joy!”
Useless: “….”
What fueled their confidence? He could’ve minced them instantly—if not for the intel he needed.
Yet… danger. A faint, instinctive warning prickled his senses.
“Since it’s you,” Shadow breathed deeply, spreading her arms like an embrace, “no more holding back.”
Hiss!
Crimson light burst from her back, expanding rapidly.
As it faded, two tattered blood-red wings drooped behind her—seemingly harmless.
“…You?!” Useless’s pupils contracted sharply, disbelief flashing across his face.
“How’s this? Power gained after abandoning humanity!”
Her head tilted, a sly grin on crimson lips. Even her eyes glowed red.
Her tongue flicked dry lips, sharp teeth glinting.
Black scales crept over her arms, gleaming wickedly under the light.
Bone spikes tore through her clothes.
In seconds, the petite girl transformed into a full-fledged monster.
Beside her, Mo shook violently with laughter.
His slender frame swelled like a balloon—doubling in size.
Torn fabric revealed a pale, bone-like body beneath.
Thick skeletal plates encased him. Razor-sharp bone claws extended from his hands.
Only the curse marks half-covering his face hinted at his former self.
“Taste our… demonic transformation!”
Their voices twisted into something utterly inhuman.
Just as the clash seemed inevitable—
“How lively. Mind if I join?”
Both sides turned instinctively. At the ruined doorway stood a smiling girl.
Her black hair danced without wind. The Carrion Eaters blocking the path lay as mutilated corpses at her feet.
