What was Lin Ming feeling right now? Speechless. Utterly speechless. It wasn’t the author running out of words—it was as if a million Divine Beasts were galloping through his heart. *Did you sense anything? Spit it out!! Even the lackeys were so obviously tailing us, and you said nothing!*
Lin Ming covered his face and asked Yuhan He, "Junior, what did you sense?"
"Senior, do you want to know?" Yuhan He asked, puzzled.
"Mhm!"
"Then I’ll help you sense it again carefully," Yuhan He said. She focused, humming a faint, inaudible tone.
Invisible sound waves spread from Yuhan He in a circular pattern, like radar. Gradually, she perceived many things.
A Black Cloaked Figure, hovering in the distance, watched Lin Ming’s group. Seeing Yuhan He’s action, her expression shifted. She retreated several hundred meters backward. After using mana to detect no sound wave fluctuations, she sighed in relief. "Almost exposed, but..."
Lin Ming stared at Yuhan He, dumbfounded. He didn’t know what to say. This magic was sonar detection—the hardest detection spell—using self-emitted waves to sense surroundings, like a bat. Yet Yuhan He, who could use it, had not a shred of vigilance!
"Junior! Did you sense anything?" Lin Ming asked.
Yuhan He replied gravely, "I sensed it."
Lin Ming’s expression softened slightly. "Then tell me what you sensed."
"Senior, I sensed many people living inside the nearby houses."
"Mhm, what else?"
"Behind us, three people. They have very little mana."
"You’re getting to the point."
Hesitantly, Yuhan He added, "Senior, I think I sensed something... underground." She pointed at the dirty floor.
"Mhm! Something... wait, what did you say?!" Lin Ming had been nodding along but suddenly realized the gravity of her words. He stomped the floor. "You mean something’s under here?"
Yuhan He nodded firmly. "Sound waves give 360-degree positioning. I sensed a large object below that canceled them out."
Lin Ming pondered, then turned to Yaya, who looked utterly confused. "Yaya, is there anything under the Slum District?"
Yaya quickly replied, "Yaya doesn’t know."
"Senior, what’s wrong?" Yuhan He asked cautiously, sensing the tension.
Lin Ming took a deep breath. "Well! We’ll think about it tonight!" He turned to Yuhan He. "Do you know why I asked you to sense things?"
"Why?" Yuhan He asked, baffled.
Lin Ming held his head, pained. "You sensed them, right? Those three behind us have been following us for ages. What do you think they’re up to?"
"What? Could they be bad guys?! I thought they were just going the same way," Yuhan He exclaimed in surprise.
"..."
"But even if they are, Senior will protect me, right?" Yuhan He’s face showed only a hint of surprise before returning to normal.
"Well, that’s true enough," Lin Ming said helplessly.
"Then there’s nothing to worry about, right, Senior?" Yuhan He said lightly.
"..."
"Sister, Sister, what were you talking about? Yaya didn’t understand," Yaya said. She’d listened for a while but was too young to grasp it.
"Nothing much! Yaya, how much longer to your home?" Yuhan He smiled.
"Yaya’s home is a few turns ahead, past a large open area, then a short walk more," Yaya said, pointing forward.
"Then it’ll take a while! We need to speed up."
"Let’s go, Yaya!"
...
"Baldy, do you think that chick stopped because she sensed us?" Thief Eye asked Baldy beside him.
"I don’t think so, Thief Eye. If she had, she’d have come over already," Baldy replied.
"What do you think, Brother Green?" Thief Eye turned to the green-haired Brother Green after a pause.
"I think Thief Eye’s right. They stopped to sense things. We might be discovered!" Brother Green said.
Baldy rubbed his shiny head. "Brother Green! So what if we’re discovered? No fear! That girl’s just an overly kind-hearted rich heiress. Even if she’s a Mage, we’re tough too. Why fear her?"
A gleam flashed in Thief Eye’s shifty eyes. "That little girl is Bear Butcher’s daughter. When she was sick, he borrowed from an underground loan shark—our boss’s money laundering front. We don’t need this tracking. Let’s just ‘collect the debt’ ahead."
Baldy frowned. "But isn’t this for robbery? Collecting debts means less money. Bear Butcher only borrowed 50 Gold Coins!"
Brother Green slapped Baldy’s head hard. Baldy yelped, clutching it. "Brother Green, what was that for?!"
"Idiot! That heiress probably knows magic. If we rob her and she escapes, reports us, and we get arrested—even if the boss bails us out, he’ll kill us after!" Brother Green said exasperatedly.
"Heh! Brother Green’s sharp! Collecting debt gives us a legitimate reason—safer than robbery. Don’t let your IQ fall like your hair; use your brain," Thief Eye chuckled wickedly, then sneered at Baldy.
"Damn it, shut up! Fuck, my baldness is your fault! If I hadn’t followed you to that shady barbershop, would I have lost my flowing hair?" Baldy roared at the word "hair."
"Uh!" Thief Eye and Brother Green exchanged awkward looks.
Brother Green said sheepishly, "I didn’t know they used expired shampoo! We went there for ‘massage treatments’—who told you to get a haircut?"
"..."
"Heh heh! Baldy, don’t take it to heart! It’s just hair! To apologize, Brother Green took you to Happy Island to party, didn’t he?" Thief Eye placated with a smile.
"Hmph! If he hadn’t taken me there, I wouldn’t let you call me Baldy," Baldy snorted.
"Then why are you so angry?"
"I miss my hair!"
