"The Divine Envoy once said, 'If divine power not ours appears, it signals calamity’s approach. We must report it. I’ve already sent word through the Divine Stone—and we’re to capture the calamity’s source.' Spoke the tribe’s Chief, that skinny old man. 'All here were chosen by the Envoy. You wield divine power. I command everyone: search for the calamity’s source. The Envoy says it’s human. Capture him on sight and bring him back.'
'Yes, Chief!' The crowd pounded right fists to chests—a clear ritual.
Soon the meeting room emptied. Atai carried the Chief back to his chamber.
Now the whole tribe hunted Tran. Their settlement clung halfway up a steep mountain, easy to defend, hard to breach. It fended off invaders well. Even when pursued, traps on the slopes offered escape.
Lia, the Chief’s granddaughter, had attended the 'meeting'—more an order. With over a thousand tribesfolk, only the Chief ruled. Past attempts at more leaders were vetoed by the Divine Envoy…
Lia burned with curiosity about this calamity’s source. She’d been taught their world held only their land, surrounded by endless sea. Those who sailed out never returned…
Where did this calamity come from? Why was their world so small? She felt… like she’d been lied to…
So after the meeting, Lia slipped out of the village. She wore T-Rex hide clothing, a bow of dragon tooth and sinew strapped to her back, sharp arrows at the ready.
Most searched the lowland forests. Few climbed the island’s central peaks… especially one mountain with a cave spewing molten lava.
That’s why Lia tried the nearby slopes. She also avoided being seen—Grandpa Chief would scold her otherwise…
She crossed the ancient suspension bridge to the highest peak. At its lower slopes, she paused. This mountain hid a secret: many interconnected caves. Legends claimed a monster was imprisoned inside. The false entrances confused its kin. No one knew if it was true…
She’d explored a few caves as a child and always escaped. So she’d try her luck again.
Now to Tran. He had no clue where he was. After a grueling climb over one peak, he scaled the highest. Halfway up, his body lurched—he plunged into a cave. He hit the bottom fast. His Superpower’s blessing left him unharmed.
He looked up. Bare walls surrounded him. Two openings loomed above: one he’d fallen through, another likely leading out.
Even lazy-thinking Tran spotted the flaw. After thousands of Detective Conan episodes, this place screamed illogic!
He tapped walls, searching for a mechanism. Nothing…
'Am I overthinking?' Just as Tran turned to leave, a scream ripped through the air—
'Aaaah! Thud!'
Dust blasted his face. When it cleared, he saw what had fallen.
'Holy crap!! A girl? Has Heaven finally pitied me and sent relief?!' Tran’s heart raced. This pretty girl thrilled him—prettier than anyone but his sister.
'Ow…' She’d landed on her butt, rubbing it with a pained frown. Her pose was rather alluring.
Lia had meant to explore forbidden zones. But her strength vanished mid-climb, and she tumbled down…
'Uh, miss? You okay?' Tran asked politely, clueless how to help if she wasn’t.
'Huh?' Lia blinked. A beautiful big sister stood there—but the voice was rough…
'Hello, sister. I’m fine. How are you here?' Lia whispered shyly, avoiding eye contact.
'Sister? Where?' Tran glanced around, then froze at his own long hair…
'I’m not your sister—I’m your brother!' Tran shouted.
Lia jolted back. Two shocks hit her: 1) Such beauty was a boy! 2) Such beauty was a man!
'Uh, sorry for yelling. I fell here by accident. Can you contact the outside?' Tran softened his tone. Her hide outfit puzzled him—was this a trend?
'Outside? Big brother, you’re not from here? Of course—you’re too handsome to miss…' Lia realized. Someone this rare couldn’t be tribesfolk. He must be an outsider.
'Well, I fell from a plane. I’m cut off—no signal, dead wristwatch, even my weapons are gone…' Tran explained.
'Plane? Ah! You’re the calamity!' Lia leaped back, bow drawn taut.
'Huh? What?' Tran saw the arrow aimed at his calf.
'Grandpa said the calamity is human. You’re not ours—you must be it. I’ll take you back.' Lia pouted stubbornly.
'Who’s teaching kids this?! This is slander!' Tran facepalmed, utterly bewildered…
An arrow shot toward his leg. He dodged back smoothly.
'Wait! Just listen!' Tran steadied himself, pleading.
'I won’t listen! I won’t listen! Mom said when men explain, women shout: I won’t listen!' She fired two more arrows.
Tran focused his gray Destruction Superpower to his eyes. Arrow paths glowed clear before him…
'What parenting is this?' He dodged, exasperated…
Lia’s quiver emptied fast. Tran hadn’t broken a sweat.
'Alright. Can we talk now?' Tran offered truce…
Lia had no choice. No arrows left. This guy was no ordinary human.
'Uh… introductions first. I’m Tran. Sixteen. Normal high schooler.'
Lia hesitated. Should she share her name? He might want more…
'If you won’t say much, just your name?' Tran sensed her doubt.
'Okay. I’m Lia. I came to catch the calamity… but failed…' Her eyes reddened. She’d disobeyed, and this 'calamity' might turn cruel despite his kindness.
Tran sighed at her tears. Was he scary? People called him handsome all the time…
He sat on a small rock. It toppled, revealing a string beneath—a trigger. Tran pulled. A wall began rising slowly…
