Whatever comes, comes. What must happen will happen. As soon as class dismissed, Sunny Su walked straight toward me.
Before I could speak, she bowed deeply. "I’m sorry—I shouldn’t have picked you. I really didn’t know Li Ze would actually choose himself!"
I sighed and shook my head. "It’s fine. Not your fault. Well… to put it lightly, it’s all just coincidence. Let’s go—Teacher Zhang’s waiting."
Sunny Su nodded and followed me. Though class had just ended, most students had already prepared group performances. Noise erupted from every corner, instantly breathing life into our usually dull school.
*Knock knock knock…*
"Teacher, we’re here."
"Come in!"
Pushing the door open, I saw only Teacher Zhang in the office.
Sunny Su quickened her pace. "Teacher, Li Ze lacks experience—he’s not ready to be executive committee member. I think I’d be better suited."
Teacher Zhang chuckled at her stubborn gaze. "Others might not know you two, but I do. Sunny, you wanted to join the event too. I’d planned to rig it behind the scenes… Who knew you’d cooperate so perfectly?"
"What? You were rigging it? That means you were setting me up!" I snapped at him.
"If I didn’t assign you tasks, you’d just go home to sleep anyway. Better for Sunny to join the event while you take the committee role." He sipped tea from his desk. "Sunny’s handled nearly all class monitor duties lately. You should do something for her—appreciate her efforts, at least repay her kindness."
I had no retort. He was right—I’d barely fulfilled my duties as monitor. Sunny did everything; I only handled trivial bits.
"Fine! I’ll take the role. But why call us both here, Teacher Zhang?"
He glanced at Sunny Su, then me. "If I hadn’t called you together, would ‘Committee Member Su’ show up later? Right, Sunny?"
Sunny lowered her head, her bangs hiding her expression. All I heard was a soft "Mm."
"Oh—Lao Zhang, I’m off! My sister’s waiting!" Oops… I’d blurted his nickname. The class always called him that, and it slipped out.
Teacher Zhang waved. "Go ahead. And don’t call me Lao Zhang—I’m only thirty, not old."
"Uh… bye, Teacher!" I bolted from the office, rubbing my eyes and yawning.
Relaxing felt better. How was my little sister doing in her class? Glancing at the time, the committee meeting was still an hour away. I’d check on her first.
