Chapter 18: At Last, the Battle Erupts

So they finally came to fight. Don’t you realize that after all the ferocious beasts swarmed here, only those who didn’t flee are left watching? And with so many people blurting out your marriage proposal, Hero, your story will probably spread across the whole city by tomorrow.

Alice kept dodging the beasts’ attacks while trying to counter. Their strikes were chaotic and uncoordinated—but try fighting a horde where any beast might pounce at any second. Even if others hit you, one might still swipe at you just to land a blow. If you think you can handle it, be my guest.

Damn it. Do I really have to use that move here? It never felt awkward before, but now... ugh, it’s so embarrassing. If fewer people were around, it’d be fine. But you folks nearby—what are you doing just standing there? Run away! Stop gawking and get home!

She glanced at the other two, especially Lulu. Lulu had barely started learning combat techniques. Expecting her to hold out here was too much—she’d collapse soon. As for the new Dragon Slayer Hero? Who cares.

No choice. Luckily, no one here knows who I am. Even if my identity gets out, whatever.

“Hah!” Alice let out a low grunt. A surge of power erupted from her body. Sensing its might, the beasts stepped back and bared their teeth in warning.

Alice knew this wouldn’t last. Evelyn was still watching. She’d surely command the beasts to attack again.

Not just the beasts were stunned—everyone was.

“What’s going on? Alice, did you cast Holy Light too? Since when did you turn into a Super Saiyan!”

“That Battle Aura... how is this possible?”

“Evelyn, that girl’s about to unleash a big move. It looks strong.”

“What is this power? Fascinating. Beasts, attack now. Don’t give her a chance.”

“You see that? Such power—who is she?”

“Oh, sorry, what did you say?”

“Are you kidding? The Hero and two beauties are fighting for us to stop those beast controllers!”

“No, listen. Normally, girls are easy to find—no challenge. But look now: when her Battle Aura flares, the wind lifts her skirt just enough to tease. Isn’t peeking way more thrilling than staring outright?”

“How could you? I misjudged you! Why didn’t you tell me sooner? Aren’t we friends? We should watch together!”

“Come here—I’ve got the perfect angle.”

Alice’s aura peaked swiftly. Her cherry lips parted slightly, and her clear voice reached every ear.

“I, Alice, swear this oath: Hero’s Power, answer my call once more.” She raised her right hand, pushing up her sleeve. On her pale, slender wrist, an ugly black bracelet stood out starkly. “Descend into my body. Bless me with holiness. Fill my blade. Let me slay my foes—unleash, Dragon Slayer Hero’s Power! Lead me to victory!”

Two crisp dragon roars echoed from Alice’s body and her weapon.

Though her appearance didn’t change, her presence transformed completely—as if declaring her identity as the Dragon Slayer Hero.

“Take this: Dragon Fang—Convergence!”

As Alice shouted the skill’s name, she slashed at a beast. Golden Battle Aura shaped a dragon head, roaring with draconic fury. It reached the beast instantly. Normally, it could’ve dodged—but the technique carried a faint dragon’s might. The upper-race dominance froze the lower-race beast in place.

Crack!

A sharp snapping sound echoed. What Lulu had failed to do, this poor beast accomplished instead.

“That’s a Hero’s Oath—and the Dragon Slayer version! Why are you also a Dragon Slayer Hero? Isn’t there only one Hero title per person?” Richard exclaimed. When Alice’s power flared, he’d sensed something off—why did her aura mirror his? Now he knew: it was the Dragon Slayer’s exclusive Battle Aura!

“Dragon Slayer Battle Aura? How does she have it? Richard was granted this title! And who is this girl? Why’s she missing from our intel?” Evelyn knew more than the Hero beside her. This new Hero had arrived too recently to grasp the world’s rules.

“What’s strange about another girl being a Hero? And this ‘Dragon Slayer title’—why are you all shocked? Can there only be one Hero?” Zhang Yong asked. So much I still don’t understand about this world. I’ve got a lot to learn.

“No time for chatter. I’ll explain after the fight. For now, I’ll handle the beasts. You two deal with them. Lulu, you good?” Neither Lulu nor this new Dragon Slayer had mastered the Hero’s Oath. They couldn’t fully unleash their power yet. Until she finished, they’d just have to stall.

“No problem,” Lulu replied briskly.

“Then it’s settled. After this fight, you’ll tell me why.” With Hero’s Power boosting her, she was far stronger now. She’d taken down one beast with the initial burst, and the power would stabilize. Fewer beasts meant less pressure.

“Cut the talk! Fight already!” Alice snapped rudely.

Zhang Yong stepped forward. “Guess it’s my turn. Fine—I’ll test my true strength now.”

Evelyn smiled, intrigued. “Such a rare battle. I won’t interrupt you this time. Allow me to duel this unknown female Hero—I’m quite interested in her.”
