Chapter 2: The Maiden Named Bai Xin

Cold Night Feather stared coldly at the colossal monster kneeling before her. This Sin Beast must have sensed the lingering traces of Demon King power on her, coupled with the might of her Sky-Shattering Mirror cultivation—hence its trembling submission.

*"But honestly,"* Cold Night Feather mused, *"I’ve zero interest in playing master-and-servant games with something this ugly."* She raised her slender, porcelain-white right hand. A ball of deep green energy coalesced in her palm.

She studied the glowing orb. *(So even though Freya Continent’s laws don’t apply here… magic still works.)*

Noticing the three native ability-users still frozen near the Sin Beast, gaping at her, she sighed. Amplifying her voice with basic magic, she called out: "Hey! Locals up ahead—if you understand me, step back! Don’t want you caught in the crossfire!"

Thankfully, language barriers didn’t exist here. The trio scrambled away instantly. That orb radiated lethal menace—a suffocating dread that promised no escape. One glance at it flooded them with primal terror. They exchanged a single glance before bolting. No one gambles with their life.

Wang Jun gaped at the energy scanner now spewing gibberish. Its frantic symbols screamed overload.

*"Holy hell… what’s this woman planning?"* He rubbed his sleep-deprived eyes. The Devouring Sin Beast’s arrival had kept him awake all night.

*"Even my junk-grade gear nearly blew up from that beast alone… but gibbering?!"* He ruffled his already messy black hair, then slapped a portly technician’s shoulder. "What’s the reading?"

The technician adjusted his glasses calmly. "Commander, military-grade sensors only glitch like this when energy exceeds max capacity by three times."

Wang Jun’s eyes nearly popped out of his skull.

"Look! She’s attacking!" A bespectacled girl by the monitor shrieked.

Wang Jun snapped his gaze to the screen. The white-haired girl’s orb erupted into a deluge of wind blades. They shredded the massive Sin Beast into crimson chunks. The resulting vortex shook the camera helicopter violently—it nearly crashed. Black-red blood rained down, yet not a single drop touched the girl.

*"This…!"* Wang Jun choked on his awe. Relief washed over him. *"She killed the Sin Beast… so she’s not some human-shaped monster herself. Phew!"*

Cold Night Feather frowned at the Sin Beast’s scattered remains. At the moment of its death, a thread of energy had shot from its core into her body—boosting her strength, just a fraction.

Before she could ponder it, the Mystic Necklace jerked violently. It yanked her into the air. Dragging through the sky, Cold Night Feather thought wryly, *I must look like a leashed Biqiu beast—* (a dog-like creature native to Freya Continent).

*"So… I’ll finally meet the culprit who dragged me across dimensions?"* She sensed along the necklace’s pull. Only a feeble human presence answered.

*"Huh."* She arched a brow. This weakling couldn’t possibly shatter dimensional barriers. *Then… the necklace wants me to find this person?*

Her thoughts raced in an instant. When awareness returned, she stood before a girl—sixteen or seventeen, with striking features but wide, startled eyes.

Before Cold Night Feather could speak, the necklace floated off her neck. It settled gently around the girl’s throat.

Cold Night Feather smiled faintly. "Seems you’re the necklace’s true owner. I’m Cold Night Feather."

Let’s address this utterly bewildered girl. Her name was Bai Xin, a student at Donglin City’s Third High School. Though she’d awakened an ability, it was heartbreakingly weak—barely able to emit light. Her E-rank rating was so rare it was practically nonexistent. Effectively powerless.

Bai Xin’s frail health barred her from cultivation arts. Her beauty only bred jealousy, making school life miserable.

It was Saturday. She’d planned to stay home gaming, but an inexplicable pull dragged her to the city’s edge. There, a Devouring Sin Beast tore through space before her eyes. Strangely, no fighters or detectors noticed her presence.

Terrified but compelled, she hid to watch—miraculously surviving the battle’s aftermath.

Then Cold Night Feather appeared. In a blink, she’d reduced the monstrous Sin Beast to ash… and now stood before Bai Xin, gifting her a delicate necklace?

*(Wait—did she just give it to me?)* Bai Xin thought, dazed. *(Is she… my guardian knight like in novels?)* Staring at Cold Night Feather’s flawless face, Bai Xin’s heart raced. *(Am I—a useless reject—about to become the heroine? Is this gorgeous silver-haired warrior here to be my sidekick?!)*

Cold Night Feather, meanwhile, was baffled. *Why’s this kid blushing?* She glanced down at her chest. *(Still female. Haven’t switched back. Could she… like girls?)* She recalled same-sex couples weren’t exactly rare on Freya Continent.

*Well. Both of us are misunderstanding something.*

But that didn’t matter now. Cold Night Feather saw deeper truths.

This necklace had saved her life. Dragged her to a new world. All to bring her… to this girl.

Bai Xin’s energy signature was nearly undetectable—Cold Night Feather would’ve missed it without her sharp senses. Yet the moment the necklace settled on her neck, Bai Xin’s power surged faintly. The necklace itself seemed to glow brighter, humming with ancient, dignified power.

*(I know nothing of this world. This necklace owes me a debt. I repay debts. If it wants me to protect her… I accept.)* Cold Night Feather sighed, watching Bai Xin’s face flush deeper in her daydreams. *(Staying close makes sense. I’m curious about this necklace too… Since she wore it, I feel a strange connection. This girl isn’t ordinary.)*

*(Truth is… this damn necklace turned me female! I’m counting on it to change me back!)*

Amused, Cold Night Feather patted Bai Xin’s shoulder.

"Eh?! Wh-what?!" Bai Xin wiped drool from her chin, flustered by the breathtaking face inches away.

Cold Night Feather grinned, deliberately casual. "You took my necklace. Means I’m crashing at your place. Free meals included. Got a problem with an extra mouth to feed?"

Bai Xin blinked, stunned. "Huh? Say again?"

After a pause, she blurted: "Wait—what’s your name?"

Cold Night Feather’s smile froze. An urge to pinch Bai Xin’s cheek overwhelmed her. She did. Hard.

"Snap out of your daydreams! I’m Cold Night Feather! I’m moving in. Yes or no?!"

"Ow! Okay, okay!! I’m Bai Xin! Let go, it hurts!"

Releasing her, Cold Night Feather’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully.

*(That casual pinch… shouldn’t feel natural between strangers. Yet it did. Like I’ve done it a thousand times before.)*

Her crimson eyes sharpened as she turned. "We’ll talk later. First—I have guests."

Behind them, the green-haired youth, burly man, and red-haired fighter approached with several weary-looking newcomers.

Cold Night Feather’s gaze locked onto a frail old man trailing the group. His power was negligible compared to hers—but among these humans, he blazed like a sun.

*Clearly… the real authority here.*
