Chapter 4: Changing Attire

A plain white blouse with a lace collar, a plain black mini skirt, dark black thigh-high stockings, and flat cloth shoes with black soles and white laces. That was the outfit Qingli had prepared for me. Of course, the brand-new blue-and-white striped underwear I’d just put on didn’t count.

Something felt off.

After sensing the dissonance, I picked up the ultra-short skirt, measured it with my fingers, and grimaced at the girl beside me. “Um… isn’t it autumn now?”

“Yes,” Qingli replied seriously, a trace of confusion on her face as if she couldn’t understand my question. “That’s why I prepared these thigh-high stockings for you.”

No, no—this wasn’t about the stockings at all. How could I explain? I set down the skirt and whispered, “What I mean is… pants would be fine for the bottom part.”

Pants would be perfect. I grinned at her hopefully, wishing she’d understand my earnest desire. But Qingli frowned and shook her head firmly.

“No. If you wear pants, your tail will tear them apart… I really don’t want others to see Lord Luo bare-bottomed.”

I wouldn’t want that either! I grabbed Qingli’s arm, making a last-ditch effort. “I’ve learned to tuck my tail away—I’m really good at it. It won’t pop out again, I promise!”

In truth, I wasn’t skilled at all. But white lies were unavoidable in life. To save my modesty, lying to such a beautiful girl was necessary.

“No, it’s not about Lord Luo’s ability,” Qingli shook her head and explained. “When you’re out, you might face attacks from traitors. If you can’t transform quickly to shield yourself with spirit energy, you’ll be in grave danger.”

What? Traitors? Attacking me? What’s going on?

“Traitors are clan members who’ve forgotten their roots,” she continued. “They’ve grown used to peaceful lives and forgotten that this brief peace was bought with the lives of past Nine Tailed Fox lords. They believe if the Nine Tails stays hidden, they can survive by cowering. So they’ll likely plot attacks as soon as they sense you.”

I listened attentively and nodded. So the peace-loving new class disliked the old system where the Nine Tailed Fox ruled alone. They wanted to overthrow it, oppose the “conservative royalists” led by Qingli and Elder Mink, and chase a bright new life…

Wait! Does that make me the villain boss?

Pushing aside my wild imagination, I let out a mournful cry. “Then at least give me a long skirt… this one’s too short.”

“No,” Qingli shook her head mercilessly, shattering my last hope. “Your tail comes out from below. A long skirt would be propped up entirely… like a peacock spreading its feathers.”

I twitched my lips, picturing it—it was oddly beautiful. Helplessly, I sighed and changed with my back turned to Qingli.

Don’t give me that “we’re both girls, no need to be shy” nonsense. If you can strip naked in front of a beautiful girl, you do it—I sure can’t.

Thankfully, Qingli stayed silent behind me, which moved me a little. Changing wasn’t hard, except for the stockings. Nervously, I stood and walked to the mirror.

The girl in the mirror was breathtakingly beautiful. Long cherry-blossom pink hair fell neatly to her willow-like waist. Her petite yet curvaceous figure was accentuated by the snug plain blouse, showing perfect lines. Especially those long, slender legs in black thigh-high stockings, smooth and silky like dark chocolate.

No wonder she’s a girl—born a Miracle Nikki player. With tears in my eyes, I looked up. Qingli’s outfit choice was spot-on. The lace bow at the chest was a stroke of genius—simple and pure yet adding a hint of allure. The thin blouse outlined my upper body perfectly, especially around the bow.

Ah… eh?

I didn’t need the mirror to know that pure, alluring girl was now stiffly turning her head. Her wine-red pupils rolled up like a possessed doll, mouth stretched into a comical straight line, staring blankly at the other girl standing quietly nearby.

The black-haired, golden-eyed girl tilted her head as if suddenly remembering. “Oh right, I forgot to prepare a bra.”

She scratched her lips with slender fingers, looking incredibly adorably clueless… it almost made me cry from how adorably clueless she was.
