Chapter 1
Morning sunlight streamed into a small, dim room, brightening its sparse furnishings: a desk, a narrow bed, and a wardrobe. This was Lisbeth’s assigned quarters—a rare single-occupancy room in the Demon King’s Fortress.
“Ugh… Is it already this time…?”
Peering at the light seeping through the curtain gap, Lisbeth knew a new day had begun. She blinked sleepily, then slowly climbed out of bed and shuffled toward the mirror.
“Heh. No matter how many times I look, I still can’t believe my eyes. Those bastards really went through with it… but whatever. It’s not all bad.”
Reflected in the glass was a beastkin girl. Long fox ears stood upright on her head, and a fluffy tail swayed behind her, too large to hide even with her legs pressed together. Her crimson eyes and delicate features would’ve turned heads even among beastkin. Yet despite her youthful face—barely eighteen—her chest had developed far beyond her apparent age.
“Hmm. Heavy, but definitely a nice pair.”
A sweet smile spread across her lips as she spoke. Her gaze drifted downward, and her hands unconsciously reached toward her ample bust. But before her fingers could brush the soft curves—
*Thud thud thud.*
“Lisbeth! Ready yet? Today’s your first day as a maid. As Head Maid, I won’t tolerate laziness!”
“Tch. That old hag again?”
If her earlier smile could heal hearts, the disgust twisting her face now would shatter illusions. Still, picking a fight was pointless. She forced her voice soft and sweet:
“Sorry! I just woke up. And I’m still not used to this body, so…”
“Excuses. You have fifteen minutes to dress, wash up, and wait in the hall to greet Lord Demon King. And call me ‘old hag’ one more time—I’ll make you wish you were dead.”
Lisbeth’s eyes widened in shock. She yanked the door open. “No way! You heard that?! What kind of ears do you even have?!”
“Silence. Move your hands, not your mouth. I taught you how to wear the Maid Outfit. Mess it up, and you skip dinner tonight.”
The woman outside looked barely twenty—not the “hag” Lisbeth mocked. Head Maid Hilda stood perfectly poised in her crisp Maid Outfit, raven hair coiled neatly at her nape. Her sharp black eyes pinned Lisbeth like daggers, promising swift punishment for another word.
Lisbeth snapped her mouth shut. With a cold snort, Hilda turned and strode away.
“Hmph. Old hag,” Lisbeth muttered under her breath once the footsteps faded. She retreated inside, pulling the Maid Outfit from her wardrobe.
“Alright… time to get dressed~”
After slipping into the uniform with practiced ease, Lisbeth’s first day as a maid in the Demon King’s Fortress began.
