Chapter 14: In Need of Female Adventurer
update icon Updated at 2025/12/26 20:30:02

I immediately checked my character info. The data flashed into my mind.

——————

Character Name: Rogied Diflute

Race: Human

Class: Hero

Current Level: Lv.6

HP: 800/800

Equipment: Rusty, broken newbie sword +0 (so junk even beginners wouldn’t touch it)

Title: Master of Lying Down to Win {Only updates for special titles}

Skills:

Discern Truth Lv.2 [Passive]: Automatically gains target’s info upon learning their true name.

Hero’s Might [Passive]: Damage against Demonkin doubles.

Narcissism [Passive]: While injured, recovers 10 HP each time another creature says you’re handsome.

Master of Lying Down to Win [Title] [Passive]: Having mastered the Truth of lying down to win through repeated victories! EXP gain increases from 100% to 150%.

……

After reviewing my character info, aside from wanting to rant about that absurdly long-named but weirdly memorable useless newbie sword, and the fact that all my skills were passive, and my stats didn’t even show MP or EP, only one thought remained.

That is…

This can’t be!!! Impossible!!

I actually learned a useful skill?! This is impossible!

EXP bonus! A god-tier skill, seriously?!

For example, after a team completes a mission, everyone gets 100 EXP. But I’d get 150! Fifty extra points out of nowhere! Half again as much!

If converted to Slimes, that’s fifty extra Slimes killed! Fifty!

(Poor Slimes reduced to mere currency equivalents…)

Has a god finally noticed me and taken pity?

After all, it’s been six days in this weird world. I’d given up hope on my uselessness!

Hero?

Please. Isn’t this class just a joke?

I seriously suspect the Hero’s job change is ‘comedian,’ ‘laborer,’ or ‘vagrant’!

What’s the point of a class that can’t equip weapons or gear?

Let me illustrate with my own experience.

At Lv.5, I could only beat Lv.1 Slimes and Lv.2 Magikarp!

At Lv.6, I barely handled Lv.3 Rattata and groundhogs!

Against actual people? I doubt I could beat a Lv.2 newbie in full starter gear!

Ah, despair. True despair. My plan was to stay in the starter village after Anjelit left, surviving by selling monster intel and bartending.

But now, this skill appeared.

My first step to life’s peak!

“Ha… hahaha… hahahahahaha!!!!”

Happiness hit so suddenly, I burst out laughing.

The joy in my heart couldn’t be hidden. It spilled all over my face.

“Why do you keep spacing out and laughing like an idiot?” Anjelit had returned. She gave me a weird look, pointing at her head. “If your brain’s broken, visit the priest at the Sanctuary for mental healing. It’ll cause trouble later.”

“I’m never going back to the Sanctuary! Besides, the priest’s cure can’t fix mental issues! And I’m not crazy!”

“Believe in yourself. You can do anything.”

Anjelit’s eyes shone with determination. I really wanted to poke them out.

“Why give all the EXP to me?” I asked.

Anjelit turned away, feigning indifference. “I feel like it. None of your business.”

“…”

For the next three months, Anjelit still left high-level monsters with just a trace of HP. Then she’d step out of the EXP range, letting me finish them and absorb all the EXP.

My level skyrocketed. With the Master of Lying Down to Win bonus, it felt like riding a jet!

Watch Anjelit’s reactions.

“Oh? Leveled up? Pretty fast.”

“Ah, leveled up again. Not bad.”

“…Leveled up again?!”

“Don’t tell me you leveled up again?!”

“…”

“Damn it.”

Soon, her expression went completely numb.

In three months, I jumped from Lv.6 to Lv.13. Anjelit’s EXP grew slightly—sometimes she accidentally killed monsters, sometimes I failed to finish critically injured ones, forcing her to step in.

She couldn’t grasp my speed. Leveling requires more EXP each time, especially past Lv.10!

I explained it as divine compensation for the useless Hero class.

“Yeah, the Hero class is pretty useless,” Anjelit repeated softly, then smiled brightly.

“Your level’s high enough now. I’m relieved. I’ll start taking EXP myself,” she said.

I nodded.

I’d asked why she gave me all the EXP many times. She always dodged it with vague laughs.

Maybe she just couldn’t bear to part with me, I thought narcissistically.

Side note: At Lv.10, Hero’s Might upgraded to Lv.2, tripling damage to Demonkin—but utterly useless with no Demonkin around.

We arrived at the Adventurers’ Guild. After three months, we knew most regulars. Adventurers greeted us warmly.

“Morning, little Rogied, little Anjelit. Off on a quest today?” A male archer in a green hat waved.

His name was Roger Greenhat, a 26-year-old Lv.10 archer—like most here, he capped his level to avoid teleporting out of the starter village.

…I truly don’t care about his name or hat. Not one bit.

“Yes,” Anjelit nodded.

“A new quest just posted. High-level folks west of the village need Lv.10+ adventurers. I’m skipping it—don’t wanna level fast. But Anjelit, you could take Rogied. Reward’s supposed to be good.”

Archer Roger shared the tip. Anjelit nodded again, thanking him.

After parting ways, we checked the quest board. A notice topped the list.

Quest Description: Dungeon discovered west of village. Need 8 female adventurers Lv.10+.

Reward: 1 gold coin. All dungeon loot kept by adventurers.

“The reward’s generous, but we can’t join,” I sighed.

Anjelit turned, puzzled. “Why?”

“It requires female adventurers. Female,” I smiled, pointing at the notice. “Neither of us is female~~~”

“Oh, really?” Anjelit smiled back. “But in my eyes, we’re both female~~~~”
