Chapter 5: Life's True Calling

"Hey, Silver, what's the craziest thing you've ever done?"

Wenwu blurted out the question out of nowhere.

"Huh? The craziest thing? Hmm..." Silver closed his eyes and began to think. "If we're talking crazy... it must be following you as my master."

Wenwu hadn't expected Silver's craziest act was sticking with him. But then again, he didn't know what the original him in this world was like. Since transmigrating here, his own actions had been pretty wild.

Since arriving, Wenwu had never felt this relaxed. He'd done things he'd never dared before—indulging in drinking, gambling, and other vices—and now he was even a wanted criminal. As he thought about it, Wenwu couldn't help but smile.

"Master, that's not funny."

Silver glared at Wenwu with resentment.

"Haha, sorry, sorry. I'm not laughing at you. Hey, Silver, I want to do something crazy."

"Master, everything you do seems crazy to normal people."

Hearing that, it did ring true. "But this time is different."

"Then let's hear it."

Though Silver said that, his indifferent expression gave away his lack of interest.

Wenwu ignored the detail. "Desmona stabbed me in the back at a critical moment. Hadi's dead set on killing me. Now His Majesty the Emperor has ordered my arrest."

"So what?"

"So I'm going to overthrow the Bansfaser Empire."

"Oh, so you want to... Master, what did you say?"

"I'm going to overthrow the Bansfaser Empire. I won't carry this criminal label forever."

Wenwu repeated it firmly.

"Master, are you planning to charge into the palace and slaughter everyone?"

"Tsk tsk tsk, so shallow. As they say, 'When a commoner rages, blood stains the ground; when an emperor rages, corpses litter the land...'" Wenwu glanced at Silver, who stared back with a blank, confused look. Alright, some phrases just didn't translate here. "Ahem, in short, I won't do this alone."

"Even with me, we can't pull it off," Silver said.

Wenwu sighed helplessly. "By 'overthrow,' I don't mean destroying the empire. I mean upending its power structure."

Silver tilted his head. "I don't fully get it, but it sounds impressive. What's your plan, Master?"

"Heh heh, of course. Desmona and Hadi are engaged, but she clearly dislikes him. I'm certain His Majesty arranged it. Hadi is the Imperial Marshal's son. An emperor wouldn't force his daughter into a loveless marriage without reason. His Majesty must see the Marshal as a threat. Though unspoken, there's a rift between them. His Majesty fears rebellion, so he's trying to win the Marshal over. But when he can't meet the Marshal's demands? War erupts. All that's missing is a spark to ignite it."

Silver gaped at Wenwu, stunned silent for a moment. "Master, that's the most logical thing I've heard from you. So you'll be that spark once your wounds heal?"

"No, not that soon. Starting a war without controlling the outcome makes victory uncertain. What's the point? Fight only battles you can win."

"Then how can you, alone, tip the scales?"

Wenwu was baffled by Silver's naivety. "When the empire splits into two factions, what decides victory?"

"Hmm... the surrounding vassal states?"

Silver finally caught on.

"Exactly. Secure the vassal states, and I can sway the war. Whichever side wins, I become a hero."

"Master, this is the wisest I've ever seen you."

Though praising, Silver's words felt oddly off to Wenwu.

Wenwu had been woken by soldiers in the afternoon. Time flew as he discussed his ambitions with Silver, and night gradually fell.

"I'm back."

Fiona's voice came from the doorway.

"Welcome back," Silver replied.

Fiona entered. "Time for your bandage change. We'll eat after."

She approached Wenwu's bedside with medicine and fresh bandages. As she untied his old bandages, they stood close. Fiona lacked a noble lady's perfume; instead, a faint herbal scent clung to her.

After removing the bandages, Fiona applied new medicine. Smelling her fragrance, Wenwu's hands unconsciously wrapped around her slender waist.

"Ah!"

Fiona felt his arms, shoved him away hard, and retreated to the doorway—out of his reach. She stared at him, wide-eyed with shock, a blush spreading across her face.

Wenwu hadn't expected such a fierce reaction. In her panic, Fiona's push landed squarely on his wound, making him grimace in pain.

"Ah, I'm so sorry!"

Instinctively stepping forward to help—as a doctor—Fiona halted, remembering his earlier move.

"Silver, you handle Wenwu's bandages. I'll make dinner."

"Oh, okay."

Fiona turned and left, face still flushed.

As Silver reapplied the medicine, he smirked. "Master, are you finally making a move on Doctor Fiona?"

"Huh? I don't have that intention."

"Pretending? Your actions gave you away."

"That was involuntary. I hope Doctor Fiona isn't angry."

"Hmph, I don't believe it."

Silver muttered under his breath.

Honestly, Wenwu truly hadn't planned it. His move had been pure instinct.

Soon, dinner was ready. The three sat together at the table.

"Um... Doctor Fiona, I'm sorry about earlier..."

"Ah... it's fine. Did I hurt your wound? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, I'm fine."

Seeing Fiona wasn't upset and the misunderstanding cleared, Wenwu's mood lifted.

"Hey, Doctor Fiona," Silver chimed in, "my master wants to make a move on you."
