After all, I’m not exactly skilled in magic right now, especially when it comes to mysterious, covert spells. I’d be completely helpless.

“Amelia, what are you thinking about?”

Lu tilted her head, blinking slightly before scooting closer. She waved a hand in front of my face. “Hello?”

“Nothing,” I snapped back to attention the moment her hand passed my eyes. “Just… something feels off. Like we’re being watched.”

“Huh?” Lu froze, startled. “Watched? By who?”

“No idea.” I shook my head. “I’ve checked the windows multiple times, looking for ordinary humans spying on us. But I saw nothing. That only leaves the ones who want us dead.”

“But that doesn’t make sense,” Lu frowned, confusion clouding her eyes. “They shouldn’t know our whereabouts. And neither of us changed our appearances. If it were assassins, they’d have attacked already, right?”

“You’re right,” I nodded. After a pause, I grabbed the cup on the table and took a sip of water. “Still, we should stay on guard… How’s your recovery going these past few days, Lu?” I soothed my dry throat before asking gently.

“Mmm… maybe one-tenth?” Lu clenched her fist, thinking hard before answering slowly. “But honestly, reaching one-fifth of my strength here would be a miracle. This world’s energy is so scarce. Plus, I was badly wounded fighting the pursuers. Without rare resources, I won’t regain my former power—let alone grow stronger.”

“One-fifth? That’d put you around Platinum tier… One-tenth would be barely past beginner Platinum.”
