Eight black arrows shot toward Li Xiaobai from eight different directions!
There was no time to dodge! He had at most half a second to react—after that, he’d be instantly turned into a pincushion!
Half a second?
“That’s more than enough for me!” Li Xiaobai shouted.
“What’s wrong?”
I hadn’t seen what happened—I only saw Li Xiaobai turn a corner with a shocked expression, but his face instantly hardened.
His right hand, gripping a knife, blurred into motion, slashing vertically through empty air! His left hand, holding a fire axe, swung horizontally across the void.
But his moves weren’t wasted! Just as I wondered what he was doing, black arrows flashed into view, shooting toward Xiaobai like a gale.
Clang! Clang! Clang! His knife sliced three arrows in half mid-air!
Clang! Clang! His axe flew from his grip, barely deflecting two more at the last second!
His reflexes were inhuman! But eight arrows had targeted him!
He’d barely knocked away the ones aimed at his vitals—the remaining three had nowhere to dodge!
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Three arrows pierced Li Xiaobai’s body—left knee, right shoulder, right thigh. He was thrown back, forced to crouch against the wall behind him.
“Damn it!” he cursed, slumped against the wall. He grabbed the arrow in his shoulder and yanked it out; blood splattered, drenching his shoulder.
“Xiaobai!”
“Brilliant! Amazing!” William’s voice echoed from the corridor’s end. “Truly spectacular! How did you do it?”
William clapped wildly, his voice feverish and mad—you could feel his excitement.
So unnatural! Who cheers when their opponent shines?
I rushed to help Li Xiaobai, but someone charged faster.
Moxiaoi dashed ahead with her compound bow, striking a cool pose. She drew and fired an arrow straight at William!
“Huh!?” William’s laughter cut off instantly.
I dropped beside Li Xiaobai. “Xiaobai? You okay?”
“I’m… fine. Just pull the arrows out,” he said, struggling up. Both legs were hit—especially his left knee.
“Let me check your wounds…” I reached for his shoulder, but the wound had already stopped bleeding and was healing.
He yanked the arrow from his thigh! Blood sprayed again!
“Xiaobai! Don’t just rip it out—” Before I finished, his wound sealed and began healing visibly.
Is he even human!?
“I’m fine!” Xiaobai stood on one leg, voice icy.
“He escaped, but I grazed him,” Moxiaoi said, bow raised. William had vanished down the hall.
“Damn it!” Li Xiaobai growled. He lurched forward and pulled the knee arrow out, wiggling the tip loose first.
Watching him, my own knee throbbed.
“Bone damage. Won’t heal easy,” he muttered, face dark. He tested his left foot—stiff, awkward. “Give me a minute. I’ll be fine.”
Like hell! What kind of healing was this? I froze in shock.
“Falling for such an obvious taunt… such an idiotic trap. Fine. Lie there and rest,” Moxiaoi snapped, shooting him a ‘you’re useless’ glare before striding off.
“Hey! I just saved you again! This is how you treat me?”
“So, old man, rest while you can,” she said, not stopping.
“Moxiaoi, be careful!”
“Hmm.” She didn’t turn back, cool as ice.
“Hey! Wait—don’t go alone!” Li Xiaobai yelled.
“…He’s injured. We should chase.” She ignored him, bow ready.
This corridor looked normal except for eight extra crossbows. But after what happened, Moxiaoi knew it was crawling with traps.
Li Xiaobai limped to follow. I had no choice but to support him as we shuffled forward.
“Nurse sis is still the best,” he teased, even while limping.
“Still joking? Shut up and focus,” I snapped. He could joke, so he was fine? Anyone fine here was the real problem!
“Heh heh~” he chuckled dumbly.
“Idiot.”
“Moron,” Moxiaoi called back, voice icy.
“…” Li Xiaobai’s face darkened.
Midway down the hall, Moxiaoi spun to Li Xiaobai. “Flashlight. Now.”
“What for?”
“Hurry up!” she roared.
“Uh… here. Why so fierce?” He backed down, handing over the flashlight from his waist.
Moxiaoi snatched it and smashed it onto the floor!
“I… what are you doing!” Li Xiaobai shouted.
The flashlight shattered on impact!
Boom! Boom! The floor where it hit crumbled, collapsing like the earlier trap!
“Damn! How idle is that psycho William? Digging all these pits? And why smash my flashlight? Couldn’t you just ask? I’d have thrown trash!” Li Xiaobai complained, clinging to me.
“Annoying, always shining it around!” Moxiaoi sneered. “Heh~ I wouldn’t fall for the same—huh?”
She spotted a silver wire tied to the collapsed floor, leading into a dark hospital room beside her.
Faint noises came from inside.
A door! The wire connected to a door!
She was right—the falling slab yanked the room door shut violently.
The door itself was harmless—but a long knife was embedded straight across it!
The knife’s reach could’ve slashed through Moxiaoi’s chest!
But she stepped back smoothly; the blade swept past her chest, missing her clothes entirely.
“Double trap… heh~ Did you think I’m as dumb as that idiot?” She half-turned, smirking at us.
“Idiot,” Li Xiaobai muttered.
Click! A familiar sound echoed from the room—the crossbow mechanism firing.
A black arrow shot through the door’s broken window.
Because Moxiaoi had stepped back to mock Li Xiaobai, the arrow missed her chest by inches, embedding in the wall.
“…” She froze, startled.
“…”
“Hahaha! Good thing you’re flat-chested! Else your airfield’d be a pincushion! Triple trap, not double! Scared?” Li Xiaobai cackled.
“Shut up!” Moxiaoi yelled, face flushed.
“Ahem~ heh~ Did you think I’m as stupid as that idiot? Actually, I’m dumber,” Li Xiaobai mimicked her tone, smug and mocking.
“You!” Moxiaoi trembled with rage.
“Alright, alright~ play nice, stop fighting. Be careful as we go,” I cut in, playing peacemaker.
Well… that’s really all I’m good for.
