032 Class Rep
update icon Updated at 2025/12/31 22:30:02

It had been a whole month since Class 3 of Grade 10 started, yet no subject representatives had been appointed. All duties fell to the class monitor, deputy monitor, study committee member, and PE rep. These were chosen from the top scorers in the entrance exams. The hygiene committee member was Luo Liangjian—picked because he generated the most trash. Surprisingly, he managed well, so Teacher A Dan kept him. Now, they needed subject reps to ease the burden on class officers.

First period was supposed to be Chinese class. But since homeroom teacher A Dan taught Chinese, she unceremoniously turned it into a class meeting. The students wholeheartedly agreed. To them, class meetings were basically self-study periods.

"Today, we’ll elect subject reps to share the workload with the study committee and monitor," A Dan announced. "I’ve selected the top three scorers from last month’s exams for each subject. For example, the top three in Chinese will compete for Chinese rep. Voting will decide."

Ye Wen ranked first in every subject, so her name appeared under every category. After writing the list, A Dan glanced at Ye Wen. "Ye Wen, would you like to be study committee member?"

"Huh?" Ye Wen jolted awake, blinking drowsily at the teacher. She hoped for a repeat.

"Teacher’s asking if you want to be study committee member," Jin Jing whispered, leaning back slightly.

This time, Ye Wen caught it. She had zero interest in such roles. Though she’d never held one, she knew study committee meant endless work. She was lazy by nature—freedom from duties sounded perfect.

The elections began. Every time, Ye Wen got the most votes, despite her protests.

"Now, for Chinese subject rep," A Dan cut straight to the point, skipping voting. "Ye Wen, do you want this role?"

Ye Wen shook her head and slumped back onto her desk, pretending to sleep.

Her parents hadn’t returned all weekend. She’d stayed up late Sunday—just past midnight—but this body felt exhausted. Back in her old life, midnight was normal. *Girls’ bodies are just too fragile*, she mused.

"Second place: Qiu Yi. Those voting for Qiu Yi as Chinese rep, raise your hands."

*Qiu Yi?* Ye Wen’s thoughts raced. *Has history really changed?* In her memories, she’d never been a rep or joined elections. She’d always been a background character.

To her shock, many hands shot up for Qiu Yi.

"When did I become this popular?" Ye Wen muttered.

Qiu Yi won. He didn’t decline. Ye Wen felt unsettled. The old her would’ve refused. Was her past self changing too as history shifted?

Two identical souls were slowly diverging.

Maybe Qiu Yi wouldn’t be her anymore—just a new, separate person.

The elections wrapped up smoothly. Jin Jing became English rep, as Ye Wen recalled. Lu Yu took music rep and entertainment committee.

"Wenwen, why not be a rep?" Jin Jing asked after class.

"Too much hassle," Ye Wen replied honestly.

"Eh, it’s fine," Jin Jing said. "I’m swamped—entertainment committee *and* music rep."

"Those roles are basically free time," Ye Wen rolled her eyes. "Who says? We do the bulletin board every two weeks! It’s a pain."

"Tsk… Stop showing off. Just figure out this issue’s theme." Ye Wen pointed at the backboard.

Lu Yu pouted, pleading pitifully. "My dear Wenwen, my sweet Jing’er, help me with the bulletin board, please~"

"Ugh, so cringey," Jin Jing groaned.

"I’m sleeping," Ye Wen said flatly.

"Hmph! I’m not friends with you two anymore!"

"Hey, don’t be so obvious with the whining! We’ll help after lunch." Ye Wen buried her head on the desk, resuming her nap.

"Sleep, sleep, sleep—you’re not a pig," Lu Yu scoffed.

"Then I won’t help." Ye Wen’s voice was calm.

Lu Yu immediately switched to sweet begging until Ye Wen relented.

"Jing’er?" Lu Yu turned hopeful eyes to Jin Jing.

"Of course I’ll help my little Yu. Don’t worry," Jin Jing smiled.

Finally, peace. Ye Wen had never been a model student—sleeping in class was routine. Zero guilt. The teacher’s voice droned like a lullaby. She drifted off during second period and woke only at fourth period, her arm numb from lying still.

She smoothed her messy bangs and glanced at Qiu Yi. He wasn’t sleeping—for once, he was actually paying attention.

*He won’t last long*, Ye Wen thought. After the gang beating, she’d studied hard briefly. But she’d quit fast. History shifted, yet some patterns held. The longer she stayed here, the bigger the changes might grow.

"Wake up?" Jin Jing’s voice pulled Ye Wen from her philosophical musings.

"Hmm? Class not over yet?" Ye Wen thought it was still second period.

"Fourth period’s almost done… lazybug," Lu Yu drawled, eyelids drooping.

"Oh~ Slept that long? No wonder I’m not tired anymore." Ye Wen shook her numb arm gently.

Sleeping in class always meant stiff limbs. She recalled Gu Fei, the class nap champion, once bringing a pillow to school. The headmaster caught him—earning a disciplinary mark. *What rotten luck*, she thought.

"Ye Wen, no talking during class," the math teacher scolded. "Wake up just to chat? Come solve this problem."

Ye Wen swiftly cracked the tough question. She returned to her seat under classmates’ now-numb stares.

"I know you’re smart, but don’t get arrogant," the teacher lectured, covering his embarrassment before resuming the lesson.
