009 The Starlit Maid

The black SUV sped smoothly and steadily, never needing sudden brakes—a true pro behind the wheel. Compared to this world’s mother—let’s just call her Mom—her driving skills were no match.

When the car stopped, Mr. Liu the butler was already waiting at the door. Wang Hui didn’t go further inside.

“Huh? Aren’t you coming in?” Ye Wen asked curiously.

“I’m only responsible for your safety outside. I can’t enter the villa,” Wang Hui replied, then got back into the SUV.

What strict rules this old-money family has... Ye Wen thought, not really bothered.

“Where’s my mom?” Ye Wen asked Mr. Liu beside her.

“Miss, Madam hasn’t returned yet,” Mr. Liu said respectfully.

“Oh~” Ye Wen responded, refusing his offer to carry her backpack. “I can handle it myself.”

She headed upstairs.

Come to think of it, she hadn’t really looked around this villa. Yesterday, she’d been distracted and probably couldn’t even remember her room now.

The walls were adorned with elegant ink paintings and detailed oil paintings. Antiques sat perfectly placed, creating a layout that exuded an old-money, scholarly atmosphere.

The villa had three and a half floors. Ye Wen’s bedroom was on the third.

“Hmm... where is it?” Ye Wen bit her finger, straining to recall her room.

At the corridor’s end, she stopped, vaguely feeling this should be it.

“Ah? Whatever, let’s just check,” Ye Wen said, opening the door.

A young maid, almost asleep by the door, jolted awake at the sound. Spotting Ye Wen, she happily pounced, hugging her and rubbing her cheek against Ye Wen’s face.

“Eh? Eh? Eh?” Ye Wen stumbled back several steps. For a virgin, this was way too stimulating.

It reminded her of a manga line where a guy turns into a dog: “This sudden tenderness caught me off guard after 26 years of being single... I’m done being human!”

That was probably Ye Wen’s feeling then... though, of course, just a fleeting thought that being a girl wasn’t so bad.

“Miss~ welcome back~” the maid said affectionately.

Ye Wen pulled back slightly. It was that same doll-faced maid from this morning—the one who’d groped her, looking mischievous and cute.

She didn’t know the maid’s name but couldn’t ask—it’d seem forgetful or disrespectful. After all, the maid was so affectionate.

Luckily, this family kept up with the times. The maid wore a name tag on her chest, neatly displaying her name and photo.

Shuizishi? What a strange name. Ye Wen had never met anyone surnamed Shui!

“Shi? What’s up?” Ye Wen asked.

“I finished cleaning and wanted to wait here to surprise you!” Shi took two steps forward, as if about to pounce again.

Ye Wen quickly stopped her. “Don’t call me ‘Miss’—it’s awkward. Just... call me by my name.”

She hesitated. “Wenwen” felt too cutesy to say.

“Mm, but only in private,” Shi said. “How about ‘Miss Wenwen’?”

Ye Wen nodded vigorously. Being called “Miss” constantly felt unnatural and kept reminding her she was a girl—which really bugged her.

“Miss... Wenwen-jie, do you have homework today?” Shi took Ye Wen’s backpack and placed it on a special rack.

“Wenwen” and “jie”—double mental torture... Ye Wen gave in. “Just call me ‘Miss’...”

“Oh!” Though confused, Shuizishi agreed readily.

“I finished my homework ages ago,” Ye Wen said, turning on the computer. Shuizishi leaned over to watch. Computers were still a novelty for ordinary people back then.

While it booted, Ye Wen discreetly observed the maid uniform with a sidelong glance.

Hmm, quite modest—the long skirt reached the ankles, paired with black stockings. A cute bow tied at the chest, and below the name tag was a leaf-shaped emblem, probably the family crest.

In 2004, many games were popular, both single-player and online. World of Warcraft hadn’t launched yet, so the top spot was still held by The Legend.

Ye Wen wasn’t a fan—in fact, she’d never played it. Back in ’04, her favorite was Counter-Strike.

The rich really were different; they’d already upgraded to an LCD monitor, which Ye Wen found comfortable.

The little maid watched as her mistress played the shooting game. The screen jolted around, making her dizzy. How could Miss not be affected? She was full of doubt.

“Shi! Shi—” The head maid’s voice echoed in the corridor. Shuizishi jumped, hiding under the desk. Ye Wen felt soft little hands tightly hugging her thigh, tickling slightly.

“Miss, may I come in?” The head maid knocked.

“Come in,” Ye Wen said, engrossed in her game, unaware.

*Click.* The door opened. The head maid entered, greeted Ye Wen, then circled around and spotted the hiding maid under the desk.

“Slacking off again,” she sighed, shaking her head. “Come on, the master is returning today. Behave well—he’s not as easygoing as Madam.”

“The master is coming back?” Ye Wen looked up in panic.

“So get up quickly,” the head maid said, hands on hips.

And so, the little maid was led away.

“Phew...” After a while, Ye Wen let out a long breath, closing the game. Her face was pale. She rubbed her temples and muttered, “Got dizzy after just a bit of play... seriously.”
