29. You’re Too Slow!

This was undoubtedly the largest Formation Night Frost had ever seen.

Although it appeared for only a fleeting moment, its complete form had been branded into Night Frost’s mind.

So Formations could actually reach this level.

After returning and deducing the Array Pattern, Night Frost buried her head in the basement first thing the next morning.

She looked determined not to come out until she cracked the Array Pattern.

Under Night Frost’s influence, the Eye Orb had also begun to understand the meaning and mysteries of the Array Pattern.

He still didn’t understand much, but he had a vague feeling that the Array Pattern contained a flaw.

Yet whenever he tried to explain where the flaw was, he became tongue-tied and couldn’t make himself clear.

Night Frost had noticed it too. The thing did contain a flaw, but someone had placed a “patch” over it.

To expose that flaw, she first had to break through the layer of patching above it.

In other words, the top two layers.

One was reflection. The other was purification.

Night Frost had never come into contact with either of them…

No. She had encountered purification before.

The Purification Array Pattern formed from hundreds of sheets of paper actually shared the same origin as the Array Pattern above.

This Purification Array Pattern had most likely originated from the Elven Magic Spell of purification.

After being adapted and translated by the humans of the lower realm, it had become a Purification Formation suited to the bodies of lower-realm babies.

If she translated part of the Elven language into a Magic Spell compatible with lower-realm babies, then compared and arranged it against the Array Pattern, she should be able to recreate this Purification Formation.

Before that, however, Night Frost had to understand Elven Magic Spells.

Otherwise, she would never have any hope of breaking through this Array Pattern.

Night Frost was lucky to have Li Dogegg, the Eye Orb, and Lurie.

Li Dogegg and Lurie could communicate with each other. The Eye Orb could record their conversations and compare them with lower-realm vocabulary.

By translating the Elven language, they could obtain the pronunciation of the Elven Magic Spells.

Night Frost only needed to recognize the characters from their pronunciation.

It was hard to imagine how the lower-realm human who had first arrived at the Abyss of [Myth] had learned the Elven language.

And how had he left this Formation beneath a human fortress?

Night Frost squatted on the ground.

Tonight, she planned to deduce the Reflection Array Pattern first.

She would use the inner and outer Array Patterns to collide, annihilating the inner Reflection Array Pattern…

That was assuming the Array Pattern Night Frost created was stronger than the Reflection Array Pattern inside the great Formation.

This was the conclusion Night Frost had reached while carving Array Patterns.

If two different or identical Array Patterns were interwoven incorrectly, friction and collisions would form between them.

In the end, only the tougher side would survive.

Even the surviving side would be left full of holes.

Collisions between identical Array Patterns caused even greater damage.

Night Frost didn’t understand the principle behind it.

Sometimes, there was no need to get hung up on every little detail.

As long as the program ran, that was enough.

When the interweaving method was correct, the nested Array Patterns would form a powerful nested or collaborative Formation.

Following the Reflection Array Pattern before her, Night Frost wove a simplified version.

Then she began her first attempt.

Night Frost carefully pushed the Reflection Array Pattern she had created into the great Formation.

The instant the first line of the inner Reflection Array Pattern intersected with one of Night Frost’s lines, she allowed the two Array Patterns to grind against and consume each other.

Clearly, the reflection within the great Formation was stronger.

It bounced back all the damage Night Frost’s Array Pattern inflicted upon it.

Night Frost endured the full backlash from the annihilation effect between the Array Patterns.

But this proved that Night Frost’s theory was correct.

The theory was sound, and practice had confirmed it.

Night Frost no longer needed to overthink things.

Now, she only had to consider how to strengthen the Array Pattern with materials.

The materials given to her by the Elderly Elf were more than sufficient.

They were also extremely precious.

Unfortunately, Night Frost didn’t know what some of them did.

She could only use limited materials and limited knowledge to create a Reflection Formation that was passable by comparison.

If quality wasn’t enough, she would make up for it with quantity.

Night Frost embedded three Reflection Array Patterns into the Formation’s Reflection Array Pattern.

She had the three Formations wear it down from three different directions.

Her plan worked.

After just one night, Night Frost had almost completely worn away the Reflection Array Pattern inside the Formation.

With only a few simple methods, she broke through it.

The foundational Formation now had only defense, attack, and purification remaining.

Night Frost tried breaking it through brute force.

The result was barely satisfactory.

She would probably have to break through another layer first.

Then, after using a special method to mediate the cooperation between the attack and defense Formations, she could destroy them through brute force.

The next layer was the Purification Formation.

Night Frost still couldn’t escape learning the Elven language.

She had no choice but to ask Lurie for help.

Everything Night Frost did was watched by the Elderly Elf.

She had managed to break through the first Formation within a week. She clearly had some skill.

With his own abilities, he could already use brute force to break the Formations that followed.

Still, he wanted to see exactly how Night Frost planned to destroy this Formation completely.

He remembered that the second Formation contained the meaning of purification.

More than a decade ago, a human who came to this territory had asked the elves about the Magic Spell of purification.

This Formation was probably a variation of that Magic Spell.

Its strength had likely reached the limit of the original purification spell.

Although its appearance and some of its structure had changed, its core was still an Elven Magic Spell.

The Elderly Elf could break this Formation with ease.

The next two Formations were native lower-realm Formations.

The fellow who created them possessed enough control over Array Patterns.

That made the Elderly Elf’s attempt to communicate with the Array Patterns unlikely to succeed.

Night Frost’s method of using skill to break the Formation was the most reasonable—and the fastest.

The Elderly Elf had learned quite a lot from watching Night Frost’s next move.

She planned to learn the Elven language and break the Purification Formation.

Naturally, the Elderly Elf would give Night Frost some assistance.

“Come in… You’re the librarian, right? Take a few books on basic Elven language to that little girl, Lurie. Also give her a copy of the purification Magic Spell. (Elven language)”

The elf who entered after receiving the Elderly Elf’s order was the one who had led the elves on the battlefield last time.

She was the elves’ librarian and knew the location of every book in the library.

Having her handle this task would be the most efficient choice.

She didn’t know why the Elderly Elf wanted to give Lurie basic Elven language books and a purification Magic Spell.

Those were abilities every elf was born knowing and could master with ease.

But this was an elder’s order.

She didn’t dare disobey.

After the elves’ great library had been struck by that disaster, she moved it underground near the human fortress.

Using a special Magic Spell, she buried the building extremely deep underground.

The Elderly Elf then layered Formation after Formation around it, protecting the library completely.

Though the library had been moved, managing it remained second nature to its keeper.

She followed the spiral staircase underground.

Then she glared viciously at the forbidden books piled in the corner.

Those forbidden books had been sealed by a Formation.

They could no longer cause trouble for the time being.

Because of them, the librarian’s strength had declined.

Naturally, she had no warmth for the books.

The librarian took three or four books and a scroll from a nearby shelf.

Then she gently patted every bookshelf around her, brushing away all the dust.

“I’ll come again next time… I’ve been too busy lately. Only a few elves with decent strength remain in our race. (Elven language)”

But before she could take more than a few steps, several figures appeared at the entrance of the spiral staircase.

They stood at the stairwell and silently examined the room filled with books.

Three of them removed the pointed ears clipped over their real ears.

Then they tore off their specially made human-skin masks.

The Abyssal Aura crushed their elven clothing.

At the same time, the Abyssal Aura condensed into beautiful outfits around them.

“So this is the elves’ library…”

“I can feel the Mana filling this place. Purity and evil are intertwined here.”

“What a wonderful scent. I can gain knowledge here that I’ve never obtained before…”

“Are those the books the elves call forbidden? How wonderful. It would be even better if I could read them all.”

The women behind her discussed the matter noisily.

The woman leading them glanced at the three behind her.

Her eyes gleamed as she pointed toward the elf inside the great library.

“It seems we came at an inconvenient time. Do you really want to do this now? Isn’t it a little early?”

“There’s an elf here with decent strength.”

“Our target is the sealed Elven Codex. That is the culmination of elven wisdom and magic.”

The three women also tapped their brows.

They looked toward the bookshelves deeper inside.

An elf stood there, dusting a shelf.

They hadn’t noticed an elf was here before.

They had searched the place many times.

And that elf’s strength was unexpectedly formidable.

Their luck today was truly terrible.

“The elf is gone!”

Someone shouted.

The three women looked around, but they couldn’t find the elf for the moment.

Only their leader stared straight upward.

Judging by the aura, the missing elf was directly above them.

Ah.

She was close.

“An intruder… an elf?”

The librarian looked down at the woman staring fixedly at her.

The woman had pointed ears and an exquisite, beautiful face.

Without a close examination, it would be easy to mistake her for an elf.

But a careful look revealed that she wasn’t one.

Those features were merely a disguise.

The woman seemed to have noticed the librarian.

Her concealment and breath-holding Magic Spells were already perfected.

This elf was no simple opponent.

Regardless, she was an intruder.

Clearly, she was the leader of the intruders.

They had the numbers.

So they should capture the leader first.

The librarian leaped into the air.

She lightly brushed her dagger across the scroll in her hand.

Mana instantly surged into the dagger.

Combined with the Mana within her body, it allowed her to unleash her strongest possible strike.

Brilliant green light descended with tremendous pressure, crushing toward everyone present.

The leading woman made no move to counterattack.

Instead, she slowly removed her false ear.

As she did, she spoke to the librarian above her.

“You’re quite strong. This strike would be enough to instantly kill any one of those behind me.”

“But unfortunately, your target is me.”

“You’re not strong enough to defeat me yet… elf. (Elven language)”

Her Elven language was fluent.

Compared to a native elf, there was no difference at all.

Her movements remained unhurried.

The dagger would split her head open in the next second, yet she had only just begun removing the second false pointed ear.

“You’re too slow. (Elven language)”
