“You thought a normal person like me would dare come here for nothing? Let me tell you this—I’m not who I used to be!”
With that, he yanked open his coat, revealing the writhing flesh underneath. According to Blood, it was a fabric woven from divine power. It could grant him, in an instant, the power to fear nothing. Sure, that power had side effects, but this was power that feared nothing at all.
He’d already been struck by lightning twice just now, and his body was still perfectly intact. That was when he understood. These Magic Maidens in front of him couldn’t touch him. He possessed a power far beyond theirs.
Sun Xiao raised his Arcane Firearm and pressed it against Qiu Sheng’s back. The air grew tense and stifling, as if even the wind had stopped moving. Sun Xiao’s breathing turned heavy and slow. He stared at Qiu Sheng with total focus, ready to pull the trigger.
“Bang!”
Qiu Sheng felt the violent surge of Mana from behind and was startled. She immediately mobilized the Mana inside her body, but the beam was far stronger than she had expected. This was absolutely not some common Arcane Firearm sold on the market. It pierced through Qiu Sheng’s Magic Layer with absurd ease, like a hot knife through butter.
But Qiu Sheng didn’t panic. Her master had once told her that panicking now was no different from dying. So the instant her Magic Layer was breached, she condensed Mana again and formed a sturdy protective barrier.
Even with that barrier, however, Qiu Sheng still couldn’t fully block the beam’s power. The moment the beam slammed into the shield, a blinding flash erupted, along with a violent surge of energy. Qiu Sheng’s body shuddered hard from the impact, and a sharp pain tore through her waist. She had clearly been wounded by the Mana beam.
Qiu Sheng retreated at high speed and glanced at the wound on her waist. It was already mangled and bloody, with sizzling heat rising from it.
Chen Xiaoyin stepped in front of Qiu Sheng, while Dawnlight moved to heal her injuries. Just who was this guy? Why did he possess this kind of power? Even Qiu Sheng’s Magic Spell couldn’t harm him in the slightest.
“I remember now. He’s the one Night Frost captured last time.”
Chen Xiaoyin still had some impression of him. She vaguely remembered his face, but as for his name, she had long since forgotten it.
“Don’t remember.”
Dawnlight shook her head. She simply couldn’t remember that many people, and there was no need to force herself to.
Sun Xiao had obviously heard their conversation. He froze for a second, then anger climbed straight to his brow. So they had fought him for this long and still didn’t know who he was. Even if they knew who he was, they probably didn’t know his name.
Was he really that unworthy of their notice?
He felt like a clown.
But history was always written by the victors!
He reloaded the firearm and aimed at the three girls ahead. Another Mana beam shot out, but this time Chen Xiaoyin, the shield specialist, blocked it head-on.
“Looks like his strength mostly comes from that gun.”
Qiu Sheng saw through Sun Xiao at a glance. So what if his body was invincible? His actual combat ability was still that of an ordinary person. It was only because he had gotten hold of that firearm that he had become troublesome. As long as they took the gun away, then no matter how invincible he was, it wouldn’t matter.
Qiu Sheng glanced at her waist. The wound had already healed completely. After thanking Dawnlight, she charged forward under the shield Chen Xiaoyin had placed on her. At the rear, Dawnlight raised her tin staff and summoned glittering golden magic bullets to cover Qiu Sheng.
Gunfire rang out again ahead, echoing across the empty battlefield. It mixed with the fanatical cheers of the believers. Under the fierce barrage, the believers fell one after another. Their bodies lost balance as if struck by heavy hammers, then crashed hard to the ground. Blood slowly flowed from their wounds, staining the earth red and blending into the land itself.
Qiu Sheng couldn’t help speeding up. She slammed a punch into Sun Xiao’s face, but he acted like nothing had happened and pulled the trigger. Because of Chen Xiaoyin’s shield, however, the close-range Mana beam failed to pierce Qiu Sheng’s defense.
Qiu Sheng seized the chance. She grabbed Sun Xiao by the shoulder and snatched the firearm from his hand. Then she quickly retreated, and on the way back, she crushed the gun in her grip.
“Well?”
Qiu Sheng stared at Sun Xiao with a half-smile. After losing the firearm, a trace of panic flashed across his face, almost too faint to notice. But he still looked calm. Sure, they had figured out the gun was his only real means of attack, but he possessed invincible power. Nothing in the world could harm him. What could they possibly do to him?
And to be fair, Sun Xiao did have reason to be confident. The three girls really couldn’t do much to him. They didn’t have some heaven-shaking power. They couldn’t exactly throw him into outer space and make him stop thinking.
“Let’s tie him up first.”
Mana turned into threads and bound Sun Xiao up like a rice dumpling. But even after Sun Xiao was captured, the army still kept firing at the believers.
“How cruel.”
Then, all of a sudden, an unexpected change swept across the battlefield. The believers, who had been wrapped in magic robes and looked both devout and crazed, began to slowly lose those robes.
As the robes faded away, so did the madness and devotion on their faces. In their place came deep, overwhelming terror.
The thick stench of Blood in the air grew stronger and stronger, and the fear in the civilians’ hearts spread like wildfire.
Their eyes widened as they stared in horror at the corpses strewn across the battlefield and the land dyed red with blood. They realized that everything they had believed in, everything they had pursued before, had only been a dream planted by someone else. What lay before their eyes now was reality.
Every echoing gunshot sounded like a funeral bell, pounding against their hearts and leaving them unable to stay calm.
They looked back at the dark gun barrels behind them. The shooting had already stopped, but that invisible sense of threat still chilled them to the bone.
Screams and running footsteps rose one after another. The civilians scrambled to flee this bloody battlefield. They trampled through blood that flowed like streams. They stepped over the corpses of their companions. They stepped over those who had been shoved down and crushed under the crowd.
In the chaos, some fell. Some wept. Some tried to find loved ones they had been separated from. But on this land swallowed by fear, no one could offer them comfort or help.
If gunfire could directly take a whole row of lives, then this chaos was claiming nearly half the crowd in a far crueler way. The battlefield, already soaked in blood and fear, became even more unmanageable amid the civilians’ panic and disorder.
Amid endless screams and frantic running, the people lost their reason and judgment. Humans were selfish, especially at times like this. All they cared about was escaping this horrible place.
Some fell to the ground and were trampled by the panicked crowd. Some shoved their own companions aside just to seize a sliver of hope. Others were separated in the chaos and lost their loved ones forever.
This chaos was far deadlier than the direct threat of gunfire. It dragged those who had already been standing at the edge of the Abyss into an even more helpless, more despairing Abyss. It made already fragile lives even more fragile.
Within that panic, an invisible Abyss descended over the battlefield.
The Abyss of Humanity had taken shape.
Above this Abyss stained red with blood, the ground seemed buried beneath a thick layer of blood, a sight so shocking it made the scalp go numb.
Within the sea of blood, everyone was slowly sinking, including the three Magic Maidens present. One blood-red hand after another stretched out from the sea, trying to drag every living person down.
“Die with us... die with us...”
That chilling voice echoed over the blood-soaked Abyss like a curse, enough to send a shiver down anyone’s spine. It sounded as if it had come from the depths of hell itself, carrying endless hatred and malediction.
Sun Xiao, who had no strength to resist, was naturally dragged down as well. Terror spread across his face. He might be immune to outside harm, but if he were trapped in a place like this, unable to reincarnate for all eternity, then he’d rather die!
But with this power, he couldn’t die at all!
“No!”
“You all go die!”
“Don’t drag me with you!!”
Sun Xiao roared and cursed. His voice echoed through the eerie Abyss, but it couldn’t dispel that suffocating despair.
Little by little, he was dragged into the Abyss, until even his last fingertip sank beneath the sea of blood.
Qiu Sheng and the other two hovered in the air. They had no intention of mourning Sun Xiao. They wouldn’t hold a moment of silence for him, and they definitely wouldn’t build him a grave. They would only offer him one sentence:
“Good riddance.”
They turned their eyes toward the endless sea of blood below. Every time someone was dragged into it, the blood sea rose a little higher. If it swallowed everyone here, then the three of them would have nowhere left to run.
“From hatred and fear, the Abyss was born... Night Frost and the others were right.”
Chen Xiaoyin couldn’t bear to look directly at the sea of blood. The three of them prepared to join forces and see if they could break through the Abyss.
But right then, the blood sea moved.
A figure wrapped in blood rose out of it. She had pale skin and crimson eyes. She lightly licked the corner of her mouth, as if she had just enjoyed a full meal not long ago.
“Ah—ah~”
She tested her voice.
“Didn’t think I’d get to live again. This Abyss is practically tailor-made for me... and I even got something nice out of it.”
“That girl is—!”
Qiu Sheng felt that the small, loli-sized figure before her looked strangely familiar. Wasn’t that a shrunken version of Blood, the one Night Frost had destroyed that day? She... hadn’t died!
Blood fished a lump of flesh out of the blood sea. It seemed to be the flesh that had been implanted in Sun Xiao’s chest. Then a slit opened across the girl’s cheek, and she swallowed the flesh whole.
Next, the blood sea transformed into Magic Armor and draped itself over the girl’s body. With a wave of her hand, a scythe over two meters long dropped steadily into her palm.
“Alright, alright, I know you hate them. I don’t like them either... always getting in the way of my plans.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the scythe tore through the air with a fierce howl. Chen Xiaoyin’s hastily formed shield was split apart in an instant.
“That level of strength... Chapter Three?”
Qiu Sheng’s heart tightened. She cast her Magic Spell again, but Blood at the center of the lightning remained completely unharmed.
“And she even recorded that invincible trait?”
If that was true, then the three of them didn’t have even the slightest chance of winning.
“So this is all you can do... You can’t even scratch an itch for me. How pathetic.”
“Then die right here!!!”
